      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Whered you go...?

A long time ago I was fairly active on these forums and played TFC nonstop, then rl issues took me away for a while and now I'm back. But before my hiatus I remember Bioxx posting about pipes and hinting at some sort of mechanical thing for the near future. And I cant help but wonder what came of this? It seemed like a really awesome idea that apears to have gotten swept away
  2. Dinosaurs

The reason most mods dont work(or work well) with TFC is due to the lack of vanilla blocks and the extreme amounts of damage and health that non TFC things lack. Case in point; Mo'Creatures is pointless since all mobs can be one shot with a stone javelin, and that kinda defeats the purpose of the wyvrens and such since a skeleton can kill your pet fairly easily. Now if you get a custom world generator and force spawn vanilla biomes as needed into the world seed then you can run all the mob based mods you want, since they will have a natural place to spawn. Your only stumbling block is that TFC suppresses vanilla minecraft.
  3. Woodworker's table

I really dont know why you cant read the previous posts on the forums about 90% of what you suggest

  6. [Solved] Random Crash on block break

actually thats the client side crash report
  7. Leaf Culling

This sort of is an issue worth nothing though, my rig has two gtx 980s and my fps plummets when I encounter the dense forests. Even with fastcraft running the users on my server have difficulties navigating due to the forests causing killer lag.
  8. What was at one point considered magic is now possible with technology. The point where these definitions blurr is that anything extraordinary in effect with no knowledge of the fundementals of how it happens can technically be called magic. So following this train of thought, basic alchemy; for both offense and defensive purposes, while technically science, can be considered magic. So a system of magic based around alchemy for logical outcomes seems to fit right in with TFC's span of gameplay.
  9. Mechanical Power. Doing things Better, Faster

Honestly it mechanical power would only be useful for helping large servers ( mine is about 120ish users) and providing quality of life for the solo or small group players. If you are playing by yourself you dont really need to have a factory sized power plant to grind grain, a small water wheel with a mill stone and maybe a sawmill attached would provide a fairly decent ammount of use and make it less tedious then rightclick + wait, rightclick + wait. being able to load the mills with material and turn them on would be a great boon, especially with other mods that make life much much harder.
  10. Mechanical Power. Doing things Better, Faster

Mostly due to steam power being utilized over a century after the "time period" of TFC, however basic pneumatics and hydraulics were used by the ancient Greeks, Romans and Egyptians. however having basic stirling engines and other means Something along this line; http://mi.eng.cam.ac.uk/IALego/steam_files/steam_1.jpg if included should be the pinnacle of technology, but should be very resource demanding and expensive to build. the previously discussed methods of storing power; the gravity batteries are still the most plausible way of generating smooth power and storing it in a ready to use state.
  11. Mechanical Power. Doing things Better, Faster

steam wouldn't come into its own until after iron and steel are used in the system. mostly due to heat limitations of anything made from the cast-able metals. using a low cost material would help with running a low power system, like a mill to grind grain. it doesn't really need the volume of steam to necessitate a high pressure iron pipe to carry the power. The machinery would all be intended for a more "end game" scenario. sort of a "what to do with all this metal" kinda deal.
  12. Mechanical Power. Doing things Better, Faster

The concept is that the machines would allow things to be done, and parts made with stronger materials would let the builder run more powerful things. a steel pipe can carry more steam than a bronze or lead one. With wood or T1 metals a system should be limited to very low power, but as you work your way up the material tree you start to worry more about generating power than transferring and using it
  13. Explosives, a use for gunpowder.

The idea wasnt to make this extreamely complex, but to create a system where you can add other materials to the mix to add effects to the blasts. No need to make it super realistic
  14. Explosives, a use for gunpowder.

I agree with Lordofwolves, having a dynamic explosive material would be much better than having preset bombs to place. A system where you can mix your own powder with different properties would be a great implement along with a sort of alchemy style science suite (beakers distillery mortar and pestles ect). this would give players the capacity to create an explosive tailored to their own needs rather than forcing them to use predesigned ones and trying to learn how to use explosives that are relatively pointless. And before this thread continues think about the ICBM mod and what are the things most commonly banned with it? (nukes and other big explosives due to world destruction)
  15. An Aesthetic Use for Gems

Like the Op just being able to place gems in sockets carved with a chisel would be amazing. Possibly have larger/better quality gems be able to take up more space seamlessly. Allowing light to filter through the gems would be pretty cool as well.
  16. A few suggestions on Stone Age Weapons

Thrown rocks and slings would be an amazing addition, considering even a high school pitcher can kill someone with a well placed fastball. even a kiwi sized rock thrown at force can give concussions and brain hemorrhaging. Body shots would hurt like hell but usually not be fatal. (let us not forget the old way of executing someone was to pelt them with stones) And even a basic sling can throw rocks at much faster speeds than a MLB pitcher. The Romans used slings with lead bullets to attack heavy infantry from distances of around 60 meters due to all the weight being concentrated in a smaller slug the bullet had much greater damage against hard targets- like skulls and armor
  17. TerraFirma+ : Medicine & Health

The problem with mental health is that everyone is different, as a soldier things that don't bother me, would probably bother most other people. Unlike thirst or hunger, these things are pretty much universal, it is difficult to even say what would effect you negatively until it has happened. It is very hard to judge which soldiers will be awesome under fire, or which ones will cry like school girls the first time they get into combat. Not even things like being in a deep dark place is a universal fear, there are many who go spelunking just to be in the deep places of the world. Very few things even translate across cultural boundaries, let alone apply to everyone. So metal health would be taking a crap shoot at making a playable feature, so sticking to physical health would be a wiser approach to the system. But make it modular so that adding mental later is still a possibility.
  18. TConstruct-esque tools

Well, for the naturally occurring metals in tfc (those in real life) platinum is the hardest. As a blacksmith I have worked just about every type of metal and alloy you can imagine, platinum is a bastard to craft with and holds a sharp edge for a very long time. By melting a metal or alloy, then dipping a blade in the liquid metal (if the blade can survive the heat) you can coat the blade in a second; harder and more expensive metal. this doesn't add much for raw strength but it will let the blade hold an edge for quite a bit longer (depending on the metals- a titanium dipped steel blade will stay sharp even after extensive use)
  19. TConstruct-esque tools

Yea, forget the whole gem effects. Although having various parts able to be added to weapons and tools, you open up the opportunity to have non magical based enchanting. An example would be having serrated blades add a bleeding effect, causing a mild dot. For the sake of dealing with zombies and skeletons, silver coating can provide the smite effect. Platinum can be used for a durability upgrade
  20. Underwater Plants and Mobs

Getting to the bottom is the hard part
  21. Underwater Plants and Mobs

Its not that difficult to build at sea floor, currently on a server i am hosting we have 2 separate cities at the bottom of the sea. It is expensive to get there originally though. You have to tunnel down under the ocean and come up from underneath until you have a structure that has air in it.
  22. An Aesthetic Use for Gems

But casting them is not. Using a lite metal you can add in powdered gemstones in significant quantities and when the metal cools, you would get a metal tinted with the gem. They would not be clear, but would allow lite to pass through.
  23. TConstruct-esque tools

Could make a new tool durability mechanic that takes the strengths of each material used to make them into account. a weapon with a gold blade would dull/ be usless faster than one with a hardened steel one. but various things could affect this, a steel handle would improve an iron sword by providing a stronger base than a wooden grip and so on.
  24. Underwater Plants and Mobs

Saltwater in oceans maybe. Wouldn't be to hard to do as it would just be a new liquid id. There could also be other uses for it, processed into salt for food, used to quench metals more efficiently, as a heavy medium for machines. Saltwater could be crafted by grinding Rocksalt into powder and combining with a water bucket. You also can't drink it.
  25. Explosives, a use for gunpowder.

If you bury the keg with red stone leading to it you can mostly dampen the blast radius with stone, in open air i think it reaches like 80+ blocks but in stone it only reaches 64. bury this under supports for a tunnel then when you need to counter an invasion through the tunnel you can collapse it. But I agree, having smaller charges would make it 100x easier to rig explosives for defense and offense.
