      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Animals!

The thing about elephants is they are so tough, they were almost unkillable in ancient times; on the battlefields of the ancient world, the only way to defeat them was to panic them, or to kill the mahout (driver). Today, elephants are hunted using special guns, with fairly large bores. Same thing for rhinoceros.
  2. Weapon/tool 'finishing'

Hold up. We have oak. We have water. The method most commonly used to tan deer hides in the old days was to put oak chips in water and let sit for... quite a while. The oak has tannin in it which, well, tans the leather. So, the water becomes loaded with tannin, the hide is thrown in, and the whole thing soaks for a few days. Usually, you take the hide from a vat of low concentration to higher concentration over several stages, but for gameplay reasons that can be skipped.
  3. More Clay and Reusable Ceramic molds

Sand molds can be recollected and re-used, though.
  4. plant genetics = allsume

I think he thought you re-froze. Yeah, it's called freezing, no matter what the material.
  5. Grinders

Knapping a tool is the process of giving it a sharp edge, as well as forming it into the required shape. stone types suitable for knapping (not all, usually stones like chert, obsidian, etc.) easily form sharp edges.
  6. Grinders

Considering that the process of making stone tools gives them an edge...
  7. Rocks vs. Cobblestone

Hey, hey, let's be fair. We watch politicians because they have the power to decide how much taxes we pay, etc, etc.
  8. Greenhouses!

    Engineers! . . . I dunno, seemed appropriate.
  9. New gamemechanic instead of the almighty WORKBENCH

I *think* they can imbibe juices and such, or just eat things like watermelons. You'd really have to ask a doctor familiar with the condition.
  10. Rocks vs. Cobblestone

I dunno, you brought it up.
  11. Rocks vs. Cobblestone

Uh, if it exists, someone has done a 69 with it, and posted a picture of it on the Internet? Or at least sketched it happening?
  12. Civilization

My old strategy was turkey eggs, and feeding the dwarves all my spare male turkeys. But this fort is going well, except for a couple tantrums due to lack of clothing. Oops. Got that one fixed with my clothier churning out clothes, and all my military dwarves armoured. Admittedly, it causes unhappiness while they're refusing to pick up their perfectly good steel armor suits, but better in the long run.
  13. New gamemechanic instead of the almighty WORKBENCH

This is where the allergy gets strange: They're allergic to drinking water. Not water itself. Somehow, drinking it causes a reaction.http://www.cbc.ca/news/health/story/2012/03/05/f-strange-allergies.html Source article
  14. New gamemechanic instead of the almighty WORKBENCH

Allergies to antihistamines, huh. How did you find that one out?
  15. Rocks vs. Cobblestone

How do those tween CoD players get as many views as they do, anyhow?
  16. bee hives (for food and crop polination)

I prefer DF-style apiaries, because it requires the player to put in the work of actually maintaining more than one hive at once. Nothing against Forestry, but... A lot against Forestry. It's a good adaptation of bees within vMC, but it definitely wouldn't fit here. Also, DF-style apiaries would be much easier to manufacture (player-side. No idea as to the coding aspect of either type of apiary.)
  17. New gamemechanic instead of the almighty WORKBENCH

There are people allergic to water. It is possible to be allergic to bark and leaves.
  18. Weaving and Dyeing

Hey, 1SDAN? If you want to be the "suggestion stalker", don't post and use the little "Like This" button. That is more in fitting with "Stalker".
  19. Civilization

Speaking of horses, I got lucky in my latest DF fort and got a male horse and a female horse drawing my embark wagon. Needless to say, my dwarves have been eating their offspring ever since
  20. Rocks vs. Cobblestone

If you know proper English, prove it. Use it. Prove all of them wrong. But you won't. Because you apparently don't know proper English, or have the basic manners required to be polite, and use proper English when attempting to communicate with other people in a pleasant, agreeable fashion.
  21. Metal blocks

Why would you need a pick to "harvest" something you just laid on the ground? That's like saying you need a pickaxe to pick up loose rocks, or an axe to pick up a log pile, or.... you get the idea.
  22. Red steel!

    Thanks!
  23. Alright, let me start off by saying I am well aware that Bioxx said no to casting, because it's another way to do something already in the game. This isn't. Quite. On to the suggestion: Add in sand moulds for: Ingots (an alternative to ceramic moulds) Barrels/Casks (Liquid storage) Pots/Cauldrons Anvils Metal storage blocks (Maybe.) Sand moulds aren't as simple as shaping sand into the form of what you want, of course. You need to mix the base sand with the binder (In this case, kaolinite/clay), and then shape the resulting unfinished around a pattern. For ingots, this could just be shaped in the crafting grid to represent hollowing the mould out with Steve's hands. For the block, barrel, cask, and pot, first 3 unfinished moulds would have to be combined in the crafting grid, then placed on the ground, in a 1X1 hole(To hold up the walls of the mould). There, you right-click with a shovel (used to scoop out excess mould sand, which could be re-used, or not). For simplicity's sake, 1 time is a barrel, twice is a pot, thrice is a block. In order to cast an anvil, it is necessary to have an anvil to use as a pattern, and two unfinished moulds. Right-clicking on it with a unfinished mould would produce half an anvil mould, and when both are placed in the same block (same rules as for casks/pots/blocks), it would form a complete anvil. Right-clicking with a mould of liquid metal would add to the liquid inside the cast (the big mould on the ground). Once the cast is full, just leave it to cool naturally, and then break off the cast with a hammer, extract your item, and congratulations! You have finished your sandcasting! Some (75-90%) of the used sand can be recovered, and mixed with clay again in order to make more mould sand. The clay is, naturally, unrecoverable. However, if insufficient molten metal is available to fill the cast in one go, then the result will be a flawed casting; the partial item can be melted in a bloomery, but at a cost: part of the metal is bound up in impurities and is lost as slag (What did you think happened to those kilos of ore that don't show up as product? They evaporated? As a reward, complete items can be melted down for a full refund of the metals used to make them. As for sand, any type can be used, though it will result in a yellow casting sand for simplicity (and ease of identification). On to the cooking on the side, a.k.a. uses for pots! Pots can be placed in the world, and filled with water via bucket. If the pot is over a active fire pit, then you can throw meat, grain, and vegetables into the pot to get stews. You can also throw bones (If you feel like going that way) to get a soup stock, then add meat and vegetables for soup. The stew would refill more hunger than the ingredients on their own (all stews fill you up the same amount, for simplicity). Barrels and casks can be used for brewing. Because Steve is a MAN, he doesn't need no wimpy mug to drink his booze, he drinks it straight out of the barrel. This isn't very filling, but it's very inexpensive; 2 buckets, 1 grain, and time. Or, if you prefer, you can pour sterilized water from a pot into a barrel(using a bucket), and drink that. Wimp. Lastly, you can throw wood ash (Byproduct of using logs as fuel) into a barrel of water for a while, then boil off the water to get potash, which fertilizes crops, increasing yield and/or growth speed. Or just replenishing nutrients in the soil.
  24. Eh, I think it would work better to forge them. They're small enough to be reasonably forged from a single ingot, yet just large enough to be conceivably cast, and I want booze going in the game with or without casting.
  25. Not for beer But yeah, entirely metal barrels, like those which can be made in Dwarf Fortress.(Waste-of-candy barrels for the win!) EDIT: As for wooden barrels, forged reinforcing rings around a bunch of planks, in a carpentry table? Don't like suggesting additional tile entities, but seems the only reasonable way to me.
