ATTENTION Forum Database Breach 03/04/2019
There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again. -
This forum is now READ ONLY! 01/20/2020
As of this post and forever into the future this forum has been put into READ ONLY MODE. There will be no new posts! A replacement is coming SoonTM . If you wish to stay up-to-date on whats going on or post your content. Please use the Discord or Sub-Reddit until the new forums are running.
Any questions or comments can be directed to Claycorp on either platform.

Unfortunately the only skill in cooking right now is knowing the recipes, and it's mostly luck whether you discover the right one. So you can't be a skilled chef without trying every possible combination, or getting lucky and finding a good one. The only logical result of this is that people will share the recipes they found. This system needs work if you really want it to be based on player skill and not just grinding (ie: trying every different combination). The blacksmithing is better, there's some skill there, but it seems like it has the same problem of if you know the recipe then you are a master, although I haven't tested to see if that's the case. Maybe add a little randomness to it so you really have to have a feel for how much the bar moves. Maybe a limit to how many times you can hit it before the ingot becomes unworkable and you have to melt it down and try again. Maybe a time limit, or just having the metal cooling in the anvil so if you're not quick enough you have to reheat it again.

Does it create a forge log file? Try posting that.

Post the forge log file.

Try using multimc. I think you messed up putting forge and player API in the minecraft jar file. You don't make it into a folder, you have to actually add those files inside the jar file. Using 7-zip, you select the "open archive" option, then drag and drop the forge and player API files into the 7-zip window. MultiMC will handle it for you so it might be easier that way.

I think it used to lose heat in the anvil in previous builds. I remember in 48g I think where I would have to stop in the middle of hammering to go and reheat. I wonder if the protection was added or it's just an accident that we have it now.

Doesn't look like forge loaded anything from the mods folder. TFC should go in the mods folder, not in the minecraft.jar file. Start with a fresh minecraft.jar, delete the config folder, install forge, install player api, put TFC in the mods folder.

I tend to store the raw ore as well, even though it takes more chest space than ingots. Plus you waste molds if you end up using those ingots to make alloys later. Although when we are eventually able to make ingot piles, I'm definitely going to have an ingot room instead. Waste of materials be damned. Coal and clay come in large enough quantities where it wouldn't be a huge deal.

So this diagonal chunk thing could explain why it seems like mobs sometimes spawn right next to me (most notably creepers). If I'm standing in the corner of a chunk, an unprotected chunk is only 1 diagonal block away.
-
I've not found it that useful. First off, mobs still spawn just outside the protection range and wander in or detect you, so you can't safely be outside your house at night anyway. Especially if it's only protecting the adjacent chunks and not the diagonally adjacent ones. Secondly, I still have to keep the whole area lit, because if I leave to go mining, which usually spends several game days away, I come back to mobs everywhere. So nothing is really different. Torch forest is still the only way to reliably keep mobs away.

I remember the first time I made a full set of armor. Took me probably 2 hours, but afterwards I felt proud almost like I actually built it myself. I'll say it again, TFC really got the metalworking right. As for 2x ingots, the only reason to make one is when you need it for an anvil, armor or weapon.

Install PlayerAPI after forge. If you reinstalled forge, you have to reinstall PlayerAPI again.

I can reproduce the second issue by putting the almost full mold on the right side, and the empty one on the left. It fills the right mold and doesn't put the extra on the left.

Yeah Endermen are instant death when they attack, but you can avoid pissing them off since they leave you alone unless you look them in the face.

Those of us experiencing lag have found one of the following works: 1) Don't play in full screen mode 2) Increase the amount of ram for minecraft to 2GB

You can take some solace in the fact that you will be able to extract a raw stone (destroy all the blocks around it) and bring it back to base once you find the right kind of stone. You can break stone by hand, it just takes a long time. This is part of the fun of TFC, going out and looking for stuff and having to work for it, instead of having everything easily available. The wiki says the stone has to be in it's natural layer but I've found that's not the case. Not sure if it's a bug, but I like it this way because it makes sense if you carry the stone back it would still work as an anvil. EDIT: Scratch that last part, the wiki no longer says that.

Yes, zinc is one of the metals that can evaporate if it gets too hot. Use a wood that has a lower burning temp and be quick about getting that next ore started as soon as the previous one melts.
-
I have been seeing the first mold fill completely but not putting any in the second, but I assumed that since I was using small ores I just happened to fill the first one exactly. It happens pretty often, though, and I don't remember ever seeing it happen in older builds (like 52e) so maybe there is a bug.

Did you actually make the knife, just not perfect? Edit: Where I'm going with this is make sure you have a steel ingot, and not a high carbon steel ingot. But I've never made a steel knife so maybe you're right that it's not possible to get perfect.

I think there's a technical reason why blocks can't be "unbreakable". So this apparent regeneration is the only way to get the same result.

I admit I'm curious about the life story that leads to such a situation, but I'm afraid of the physical pain involved in trying to read it.

I almost didn't graduate from university because of missing lab reports. I handed them in so last minute when I went to graduation I wasn't even sure if my name would be on the list because I didn't know if the professor got my grade in the system in time. Don't be like me, kids. Do your lab reports on time.

Ugh hunting for garnierite sucks. The two times I've found it are tiny deposits where a bunch of single blocks are dispersed over a large area. Makes finding it with the propick impossible (you just read traces everywhere), so you have to strip mine once you find the general area, and even then you'll only get enough in a deposit for a handful of ingots. The first one had most of the ore right above or in the lava, so I had to place blocks all around each piece before I could mine it. The amount of time and effort it took wasn't worth the payout. Too much of a grind. I did manage to make a red steel bucket, though, which was cool. Except my only use for it was to try making a sluice battery right above some nickel to try and get more. But that didn't work, I never got any. Maybe I was just unlucky, but I doubt I'll ever bother trying for nickel again. I'm perfectly happy with steel. Nickel definitely requires a community effort. It's just too much work for solo.

Hmm maybe I should try playing windowed because I have FPS issues also. Are you using the default size or a maximized window?

Here's the other thread. Probably didn't show up because they misspelled sapling: http://terrafirmacraft.com/f/topic/2387-sappling-dupe/

I was browsing the minecraft mods forum and I saw "survival mode as it should have been". Decided to try it out after reading that thread a bit. It's a great tagline that really catches the interest of people bored with vanilla survival.
