      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. I think this bug list is an excellent idea if there is no publicly available bug tracker. Keep up the good work!

Though, one thing to keep in mind is that not all "bugs" reported here (or that will be reported here) are bugs. Some "bugs" will be caused by sloppy people using mods outside of TFC or doing mistakes because they don't understand the functionality of TFC.

  2. I have the mode icon when using a hoe. Make sure you actually have a hoe in your hand. (I spent some time wondering why my chisel didn't work and i forgot to add a handle to it... *DOH!*)

Other than that, i don't know what the issue may be with the given details. My hoes and chisels work as intended and i have the colors.

  3. via access to the config files, theres more in that than you might imagine

And all of what you said before about "stealing" mods.

    ...

That's REALLY not how it works. If i wanted to "steal" TFC i wouldn't do so by altering a few config options. Nobody who has seen TFC would ever be fooled by me altering a few configs.

What you are saying then is that all the minor mods that change a little of Minecraft is stealing the game and releasing it as their own.

In that sense, TFC which I consider a total conversion mod, has taken Minecraft and completely redesigned it so now it "belongs" to Bioxx and the other TFC devs... That's clearly not the case!

    ---

As for the OP and thread. I do agree with adding more config options but not right now as i understand the difficulty in finding a good standard balance for all if 50% of the player base alters their configs. (and comes crying foul when it's not what they expected)

At least give it a fair chance first, get to the iron stage and beyond and you might find that it's pretty balanced considering TFC is aimed towards multiplayer with > 2 people in the world.

  4. I like the idea of adding brewing but i don't think alcoholic beverages is the only way to go here.

In my world, an alcoholic beverage (alcohol in general) has only a few effects no matter what kind of alcoholic beverage it is.

    Positive

    • You feel relaxed.
    • You get a warm feeling inside. (false positive, but it can have a psychological effect)
    • You might feel happier. (Depends on external factors)
    • You might get braver. (Also depends)
    • You might sleep better. (Another one of those "it depends")
    Negative
    • Your body temperature falls as warm blood is pumped to the extremities, even in cold weather. (Though temperature in TFC doesn't work like that yet)
    • Your reactions are slowed.
    • Your balance is impaired.
    • Your judgement is affected.
    • Your stamina is affected.
All of the above negative effects can be simulated in TFC in one way or another. For example, in the case of balance, you can't walk/run straight. Or with judgement, you see a pig but it's actually a creeper. (Fun times!)

To be frank, alcohol is a social interaction tool or "medicine" for the mentally "challenged". The positive benefits are not really applicable in TFC, you would be better off drinking it behind your monitor with a few friends while playing TFC and having a laugh. The negative effects however have a real application in TFC.

If we wanna have some kind of application in TFC then we could say you get a STRENGTH boost and some FILLING in return for most, if not all of, the negative effects. And when you sleep you gain more ENERGY. (I don't even know how energy works in TFC right now)

    ...

However, what i would really like to see is Coffee, sugar drinks (read: energy drinks), remedies (herbal potions), anabolic steroids (Testosterone, in a medieval setting) and other chemical boosters. Alcohol would just be an addendum to that.

Further on, drinking water near a bloomery (read: within a few hundred blocks) would poison you. That's where beer comes in, drinking beer would be the only source of liquid replenishment in such an area as was (is) the case with our water sources since around the 17th century in large towns and cities.

  5. Beta Build 69: Giggity

    Tweaks

    • Nutrient Color config settings should now read as an unsigned byte(0 to 255) instead of a byte(-127 to 127). This should make the colors easier to edit.
    • Tilling a dirt block will now cause the resulting farmland to have next to no nutrients in order to prevent an exploit. Tilling grass blocks still work as before.
    Bug Fixes
    • Fixed tessellator color bug with the food prep block.
    • Seeds should no longer be white squares. This bug doesn’t appear on my debug setup so I never know whats rendering wrong.
    • Fixed several other white texture bugs.
    • The bloomery should no longer cause a client crash by trying to send a server packet when activated in SMP.
    • Cactus should now ACTUALLY spawn.

It would seem you have old config values. Add 127 to your current values. So for instance, if you have -127 that would become 0. If you have -30 then that would become 97 and so on.

If they are negative then they cannot be converted to unsigned bytes.

  6. On the topic of real life mining, I still don't know how steve can hold 64m3 piles of solid stone in his hands.

If you add invent inventory limits, they can only hold a few stones at a time (which will lead to some massive stone buildups at the top of the mine)

This has been discussed before and countless times on top of that.

TFC doesn't add realism for the sake of realism. If it takes the fun out of the game (I.E, dragging one stone block at a time out of a mine) then it's not a desirable feature.

However, adding more dynamics and risks to mining... that gives the player(s) a bigger challenge and most players want a challenge without being forced into a grind.

However, this isn't only about the challenge. At least what i see of it!

This concept adds a bit of (currently lacking) authenticity to the game. I have always wondered why Notch never made smoothstone crush into cobblestone the moment you get at it with a pickaxe. Then you would have to clear the cobblestone piece by piece or layer by layer and you get the rocks of the cobble, which you then could assemble into a solid cobblestone block or alternatively crush into gravel for other applications. (Like concrete)

  7. I gave leo the OK to develop his particles (and ONLY particles), and i still didn't give him a guarantee that it would be added.

I'm slapping a big X on that right there.

First off, that video wasn't Leo's work but a test from aeroc. (As far as i can tell, did not read all posts)

Secondly, the basic idea there... I like it a lot. It is just an early "proof of concept".

Finally, don't dismiss something based on personal opinion without first thinking of the possibilities it could bring to the future of TFC. At least put it up to a vote (once in a finished state) or at least hear people out...

Many projects die that way because some people get stuck with a specific mindset and refuse to budge to ideas that could potentially make the whole experience a much more rewarding one. The percentage of people that think exactly alike on these matters are less than 10% as far as i am concerned.

Needless to say, Bioxx someone is working on a fix.

    LATE EDIT:

I noticed i assumed Bioxx would be the only one working on TFC but i guess there are more devs.

  9. Why do you want a knife anyways?

Does it matter why i want one? Does it matter what i am going to use one for?

Either way, the knife is a quite frequently used tool when converting freshly sown wheat etc to grains. Using stone knives is a chore as i have to remake them all the time.

Besides, i want full sets of metal tools.

  10. Interesting. It looks like maybe you're on a widescreen display. Maybe this has something to do with your screen resolution, and the target marker is just being drawn in the wrong place?

EDIT: I'm comparing your screen to mine, and I wonder why my anvil gui is centered but yours is all the way to the left.

Nope, i had to crop them considering they where 1920x1200 screenshots. I did not feel the need to include the remaining irrelevant screenspace.

Would you mind supplying me with the seed used for that world, I want to try and see if I can't replicate your results, and if I can, I will let Bioxx know of the issue, cause you should always be able to complete a smithing plan, afaik.

I only need the seed, not your save ;)/>/>

If you don't have commands enabled in single player here is how to get the seed:

open game to local multiplayer, you now have access to commands, type in "/seed" and it will write it in chat for you, nice and neat :)/>/>

    EDIT:

So basically, what someone was saying is that later on when i make alloys i will get another goal for my knife?

If so then i don't really mind this "bug" but if it's the same all the way through then.... UGH!

I haven't been playing that much, been busy with other things and solo TFC is slooooow.

  11. could you provide a picture of said plan in the anvil gui so we can see your issue? Use a fresh ingot when taking the picture please, if you have none, just melt a used one down into a mold again and remake the ingot. ;)/>

Edited my original post with pics (or it didn't happen, right?) and used a fresh ingot.

I wasted another ingot trying to gain another pixel in the bar.

    It's an impossible recipe!

  12. I have a knife smithing plan, i only have access to Zinc at this current time.

The last actions is Draw -> Draw -> Hit and the goal is far to the right on the plan.

I have put the marker at the very far right edge before doing the required steps and the marker ends up just to the left outside the goal range.

So i can't make my metal knife. (Not that i really need it right now but it bothers me none the less)

    What am i to do?

    EDIT: Typo

    EDIT #2:

For those "non believers" out there ;)

  13. Please don't refer to tool improvements as "enchanting"... I use mods like this one to get away from the "magic" part of Minecraft where you would add some fairy dust to make items magically better.

Let's just say, leave the "magic" (IMHO cheat) modding to EE.

That said, lining your axe, handsaw and pickaxe with crushed diamonds makes sense as a speed improvement and maybe even a requirement to mine the harder rock types?

What remains is gems as a currency and for decorative purposes...

And finally, in a very distant future when no more stoneage/bronzeage etc stuff remains to be done, gems could see a use again in industrial applications like lasers and whatnot.

  14. Signed on these forums to say thanks. Excellent guide!

The mod is incredibly detailed and any expectations you may have or experience with regular MC simply won't cut it... I tried punching a tree thinking i will figure it all out as i go, got a rock and tried punching the tree with the rock... Then i started reading your guide. ;)

The one part i had problems with though was the transition to metal tools. It got confusing with the sluisses and damn near impossible to find the right stone to work the metal on.

I walked and walked and walked and found only the lower tier rock types.

    LATE EDIT:

What i mean is, there should be some kind of guide on how to find the right kind of stone. Now i know to just pick up the rocks on the ground and see what they are but more like, what colors of the ground to look for. How to tell the rock textures apart etc.
