      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

      There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
      If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
      I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

    I use magic launcher and all i do is place optifine at the last place, and TFC and all other mods are loaded on the mods folder.Im using D7 right now

I think that TFC is a great mod but theres one thing that it hasn't gone much into, and I'm gonna try to list some ideas here.If you have some ideas too, just post them here and i will add them to the OP(what does OP means? I've always had that doubt) 1-Leaves lighting (here i discussed it more-> http://terrafirmacra...aphical-things/) Basically what i think about leaves is that they look odd, they have the same lighting values on all their faces, which can make them look weird on the distance, like a big plaster of something instead of a nice tree top. This might be caused by how Minecraft renders transparent blocks (it happens too with vanilla farming ground which is a transparent block. EDIT:i tested an snapshot from long ago in which dinnerbone(minecraft dev) remade the whole lighting system, and just as farmland is a transparent block, so are TFC leaves, and on that snaphsot farmland looked like a normal block, meaning that either farmland is no longer a transparent block or transparent blocks will now be rendered properly, which will fix this issue.but dinnerbone removed it and postponed it to 1.5, so lets hope he keeps his promise. Images http://i.imgur.com/NFr0d.jpg here you can see that all the faces of leaves have the same lighting (15) http://i.imgur.com/BFbJ2.jpg here they don't, you can see ones darker and other faces brighter, giving you a depth effect. same lighting on all faces Same effect 2-Random color stains on stone I thought of this when i was seeing some pics to make some stones for my pack, i realized that stone is not of the same uniform color in all places (except some cases).I suggest using some random stains to make this effect, the same type of stone but with an slightly different color.This topic discuses something similar but in relation to ore veins->http://terrafirmacra...tion-of-mining/ Real Life examples here the basalt color is not the same on every piece of stone 3-Random cracks on stone As some of you have seen, no stone cliff is made of completely uniform stone, there are cracks on the stone.My suggestion will be to make some big crack textures(more than 5, so theres no obvious pattern on the rock) and aply them to the stone randomly, except for raw block that you get by mining them. Real life examples http://upload.wikime..._Post_holes.jpg Perfect example of this You cant see much on this one, but, DAMN THATS GORGEOUS!! 4-Make grass sides textures individually Right now TFC makes grass side textures (when better grass is not enabled or not used) by overlapping the biome-color texture over the dirt of that place, which is fine for simple texture packs, but for some more detailed ones, you can't make the grass have shadows under the dirt <---like this 5-Make texture change upon the weather Have you seen how when you have an snow layer on top of grass, the texture changes, well i suggest making this for more blocks, example: its snowing, layers of snow accumulate on top of trees,wood,and cobblestone, well those textures will change so that they look like if all the block was covered with snow(like how grass does). And when it starts snowing you will count 1min and all the textures will slowly start changing, to some textures which look like if they were accumulating snow,and some time (2 ingame days) the textures start to go back to normal. this could make a big FPS hit so its open to discussion. And there should be the same effect but when it rains, make textures look wet. I've seen in GSLS shaders that they made a code to give this effect(much fancy but similar) only to blocks which are "outside", i wonder if the devs could do the same 6-When water is in a river biome, make it flow Basically when you have water on a river biome, give it some animation to make it look like its flowing,instead of being static like a big water trench that does nothing.i dont know if this would be possible to code. 7-Mossy blocks Very simple idea, make every block that is near water grow moss, this moss could extend another 3 blocks, this could be on every block, from dirt to stone and wood.Moss could also grow on high humidity ambients (not sure if thats grammatically correct) I hope you like my suggestion, plz vote on the poll, or leave a comment. i know that some of this suggestions are quite hard to implement, I'm not ordering the devs to put this in TFC inmediatly, but i wanted to give them some ideas in the case they wanted to make TFC graphics better. ps: i used links instead of images sometimes because i couldn't put more images on this topic.

    hmm this is interesting, but i dont know if i understood correctly, you want us to have classes that we can change or to be fixed? Talking about classes i would preffer a diferent style, this would be like a game called KingArthursGold(aka KAG) In this game there are three classes, knight,archer and builder. you can change whenever you want as long as you are in the spawn or in a knight/archer/builder workshop which is made by the builders. Knights cant destroy blocks unless they have bombs, archers can only shoot arrows,hide in the grass and climb trees, and builders, well they build XD they make bomb/arrows shops and quarters for health,etc and they build estructures. If this was to be implemented in TFC it would bring a much more strategic PVP because you can only choose attack or build, not both. Try out this game, its free http://kag2d.com/en/

  8. So i have seen what people thought about planks and it seems like most of us had the same expectations, we thought they were going to be like real planks not sticks. Part of my suggestion here is to make the planks be wider, 4x1 the equivalent of one plank in the textures, this will make things more believable and easier to be used (not easier like pussy easier,normal easier) you will actually prefer to use those planks instead of the whole wood block. Another thing that bothers me about planks and how you get them, is whit the axe.You have a big axe to chop down trees and you want to use it to get perfect wooden planks o_O WTF I suggest that we make a new type of plank, it will be a quarter of a log, because you cant get perfect planks with an axe, less with an stone axe.This will also make getting a saw a bigger priority. and for the aesthetics make a wall with small logs.
  9. New tool: The wedge

    Well first i have to say that im not a native english speaker so please excuse any grammar mistake,also about the name of the tool, im not entirely sure thats the name i want but i'll explain that in a sec. The Wedge Its function will be to make raw stone mining a bit easier, the wedge is like a chisel but smaller and you will need more than just one to get a piece of raw stone. The plan for it will go a bit like this: And once its done in the anvil it will give you a set of mining wedges, they will work in the following way: you must have a hammer in your inventory and when you find a bit of stone that is with at least 3 of its sides free, some examples of blocks apt for the wedge,the ones with a wooden button are the block you want to take, the one with the stone one is impossible to take This will make raw stone gathering still a bit of a challenge. Now for the actual placement of the wedges i suggest a new tool, the wooden hammer or a mallet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mallet)this will be made with a stick bellow a block of wood(i leave this open to discussion). Now this new tool will have to be on your hotbar to work with the wedges, first you place the wedges, just like if you were placing a lever or a button, and then you take the mallet and hit it wiht the right-button until they are completely stuck on the stone,this will be made with a model for wedges around the corners, like this: After this you will get the stone block.

    i know nothing about java, i have tried to make some code for minecraft, made just a block and a recipe.but then i had lots and lots of trouble compiling my code.The thing that interest me the most is terrain generation, i would really like coding such thing like true mountains and better environments like "Realistic forests" XD Edit: anyone remembers a WIP mod that changed the terrain generation to have realistic terrain with better looking mountains and continents.Someone posted something about it in here.

    Yeah its impossible to get any CTM block, it seems more like a thing of TFC because i have seen that some packs make CTM textures for other mods.

    HI everyone, i remembered this post yesterday as i was exploring into a server(roanoke) and i saw a guy who had made an small system of roads(road and a bridge) it didnt went that far, nor to any other house, but i thought that i would be cool to have an actual necessity to make roads, imagine that, you just spawn on a server, you wander trough the wild collecting resources and all of a sudden you stumble with a road, you follow it and as you do so you see carts passing by, and then you arrive to an small settlement and like that through the whole road system. Just an experience i wanted to share to this topic instead of posting another one with the same suggestion but this story.

    im sorry but i dont see your logic? also, the devs prefer to stay away from the mighty crafting table, its just way too easy to craft things on that one, in fact, i wish that in the near future they remove the need of the crafting table as we know it.
  17. TFC and some graphical things

    Since i started playing TFC (back on February) i got incredibly hooked by the mod, and the only thing i didnt liked about the mod were two things: its terrain generation(basically an infinite forest with infinite amounts of pools(it better now), and its leaves... yeah i said leaves, have you ever noticed how in TFC the leaves seem to merge together when you are far from them ,and instead of having shadows like vanilla leaves do, they dont have any and makes them look ugly as hell. here i have a better explanation: I stopped playing TFC in between June and September because i had tons of trouble installing it,and when i came back to it i was glad they changed almost every single thing i didnt liked about TFC.... except of course the leaves. This made me belive that perhaps is something much more complex than just a few lines of code, im no programmer, so i want to ask you guys three things: 1-Do you have the same trouble i do with the leaves? 2-Do you know what causes this effect in leaves? 3-Would it be easy to fix this issue? PS: i know dunk has plans on improving leaves but it seems like he could at least improve leaves while he makes the planned improvements to the leaves,if its not too hard to code. Edit: Thanks to everyone who gave me a comment. I think i didnt explained myself that well, some said it was the Texture pack im using, which is not the cause, you can see that in the following screeshots(this time wiht default): If you are really close they look good. But when you are further away the only thing that can make you recognize the depth are the weird patterns on the leaves. Fancy textures help just a bit, but still the depth is not very visible Vlad mentioned that in real forest you cant recognize which leaves belong to which tree, thats true but you can recongnize its depth and shadows, you can say:hmm .... those leaves are further away and those leaves are nearer. But with TFC leaves theres something that makes them look like a big mass of unrecognizable depth. EDIT: Thanks for alll the people who keeps commenting. I have seen a very interesting point of what may be the reason, and the problem. transcengopher mentioned it may be because the lighting on all faces of the leaves is 15, which in vanilla minecraft isnt, that may be because of how minecraft lighting treats transparent blocks (such as leaves) here you can see my point and the point of transcengopher you can clearly see that the lighting on all the faces of the leaves is the same(15 i think) thus it makes the leaves look like if they were a plain wall of leaves when you go far from them, because theres no shadows in them, but in vanilla minecraft there are shadows on the leaves. im lazy and i reused an image i had already uploaded, but lets focus on the trees, you can see that the faces of the leaves are not with all the same brightness levels, there are shadows in those leaves, thus making them look way better when you go far from them.
  18. I prefer a new chissel mode, copy mode, just right click and it copies the setting, then put it on paste setting and you get the block out. To make it more balanced perhaps make it take more time, measure the amount of bits that it took out and make it calculate how much time will it take you to chissel that block. A full block with its top face lowered by one will be almost instant, while a suspended bit on the middle of the block will take you like 10-8 sec(open to discussion)

    I wish i could know how to code, so i can understand why people say that Notch is a genius by making minecraft (not the idea, but the code) and at the same time they say that Minecraft is horribly coded. Anyone knows a good place to learn how to code? Bioxx were did you learned?
