      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. 79.20 take a little trip to an ideal area

Nice seed! Have been playing on it for a while now, and all I'm lacking are chickens.I've found open Lapis Lazuli at these coordinates, if you're still looking: 62 | -11894 And Malachite at 62 | -11511 If you're looking to do a spoiler cut, press the "Special BBCode" button and select it. Or just do this manually: [spoiler]thing you want to hide[/spoiler]
  2. The "Magic" of TFC

I voted for the spoiler forum. I understand that having information of this sort revealed destroys immersion for some people. On the other hand, I was about to quit this mod, or at least the whole blacksmithing system, because to me it looked as if smithing was totally random. When I started to get into it, I was able to produce one or two pieces, but mostly I just spent ages of game time and lots of coal on failure, and didn't think I'd ever be able to get a suit of armour together. My salvation was the fact that a forum search revealed that there were apparently numbers leading to precise results, even if those were banned from being posted. That told me that 1) it wasn't random, 2) others had figured things out, 3) I would be able to as well. So I made a few reasonable premises and did some algebra, and now I can make any item I want in a reasonable time because I have my own method. That doesn't mean my sense of accomplishment is lessened, because 1) I have the nice items, and 2) I know I figured out the maths which I suspect not anyone will be able to, as plenty of people just declare they can't do mathematics rather than even try to think such things out. And for people who don't want to do the maths yet get frustrated with just randomly hitting things, an add-on might be salvation, while others will never want to use it. So, I'm all for letting people decide their own play style rather than forcing one or the other on them.
  3. You get salt water from the sea (look for parts of coast with seaweed in them), not by combining water and salt.
  4. Trying it out, thanks! Not only the digital thermometer, but also the other numbers that don't actually exist for me in-character were frustrating, so it's nice to quit F3-ing.
  5. How are you guys dealing with caves?

Well, I just found my first cave/underground ravine. It was full of skeletons and things. I managed to make them all start shooting at each other, placed a few light sources, went through them without them noticing me, mined a garnierite deposit I found, and ran back. They were still shooting at each other. I will check back soon, now that a few game days have passed. Wonder if they are still shooting.
  6. Stuck ground

Or even "build sack, basket, or wheelbarrow before you can even move a single block of dirt a larger distance than you can throw it with a shovel". And of course multiply the time it takes to dig out even one single stone block to several hours. As you say, there's a balance between realism and convenience - or even playability. I doubt that many people would enjoy the game if even simple building and earthmoving became a several-hour job.
  7. Agreed on the original suggestion making sense. But why slow everything down without heavy objects?
  8. Skin Tanning (Not Being Racist)

Well, I for one most certainly wouldn't spend money on such an app in order to use a feature of this mod, particularly as I never see more than my character's arm and really don't care enough how it looks to even change it from the default.
  9. How do i gather drinking water?

The drinking "by hand" is sometimes buggy. I've seen people mention it in a few places, and have experienced it myself. Restarting the game should clear it up (as far as I recall, just reloading the save does not suffice).
  10. More Acheivements.

I'm curious: Do other people pay much or really any attention to the achievements? Both in unmodded Minecraft and now here in TFC, it always seemed to me that achievements were mostly very basic and rudimentary hints as to what one might want to do next in order to progress with, say, making tools. I see them as standing in place of the non-existing tutorial, as a pointer what one might try to do or research. For me, the "actual" achievements in TFC, now that I feel I have some grasp of the mechanics and are playing my first long-time world, are things I set as my own goals. For instance, I figured out smithing in a basic way a few days ago, and yesterday I realised how to go about things systematically so I no longer use three hammers to make a pickaxe. That's an achievement whether or not there is a message on my screen telling me "wow, you made a pickaxe in under twenty seconds on the anvil". For me, extensive lists of achievements (play mission X on Y difficulty in under A minutes without Z happening), particularly if they give you rewards that allow you to unlock game content, always seem like artificial busywork so people go on with a game that might otherwise bore them once they've played it through one. I don't think TFC really needs that.
  11. Plants that need to be edible in TFC

Some people now eat them for health reasons or because it's a bit "alternative", but it's a typical wartime food too, when the rationing got so bad it really wasn't enough, or supplies stopped. I've talked to old people who collected dandelions for actual survival when they were children. So it would be quite fitting as a last-ditch survival food in the game.
  12. [Solved] Unable to create a brine. Help!

Also, you can't get the vinegar in the saltwater by rightclicking the barrel with the bucket and pouring. Rather, you need to put the bucket into the slot in the graphical interface (and, if I remember right, possibly seal the barrel for a moment?). In any case, no direct pouring, which I tried for quite some time at first. And your salt water barrel can't be full; you need to take out one bucket of salt water first so there is room for the vinegar.
  13. German sub-forum

  14. The disappearing sheep

This might seem odd, but is there any reason why a domesticated animal would just disappear? I had three sheep in a paddock, a ram and ewe and their offspring, an almost full-grown looking animal. Suddenly, after being down in my mine, I came back to find only two sheep in the paddock. The gate was and remained closed, it doesn't seem to have any spot where a sheep could get out, and my map plugin does not show any additional sheep in the surrounding area. Is there any reason why a big lamb like that might die/disappear that I couldn't come up with? I believe they don't need to be fed grain if they are on grass, correct? Both mother and father seem well, and mother has been pregnant again for some time. All my other animals seem present and correct, although I have so many piglets of all sizes that I can't make an accurate count. ETA: I'm not playing on a multiplayer server, so it wasn't a sheep rustler either.
  15. The disappearing sheep

Ah, thanks! I'll see if Google has something about the vanilla rules then. Server shouldn't be a problem, as it's a single-player game, and if it's chunk, I will make a pigsty somewhere away. Just glad I know what likely happened, as it was a very mysterious thing.
  16. The disappearing sheep

Oh dear. All in all, I'd estimate there are around 35 domesticated animals around the house. What is the relevant area in this case? A chunk, or something larger? Several animals are pregnant, so in order to avoid losing any existing ones, I'd probably best move them if that is practical.
  17. Are apples the new sugar cane?

I've observed that as well, and had the same issue of it never finishing when making vinegar, as well as losing the date indicator on pickled food I had put into vinegar. In each case, I had picked up and moved the full barrel after sealing (as I've worked out a grouping of barrels in different stages of food preservation to places marked by signs so I know what I have where). So I guess that the act of picking up and replacing the barrels somehow removed the sealing date. As you say, resealing fixed it, both adding the date and in case of alcohol/vinegar allowing the process to go forward.
