      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. You could take stock of everything you have on the server, write it down on a list, convert things in your list from Vanilla to TFC using your brainbox (everywhere you see a diamond pickaxe for example you could write in an iron one, etc) Once you have your list of all the resources on the server, use worldedit to create a copy/paste template of a stone vault that must be dug into. After your players have been on for a day or so, and they have begun building their town - paste these vaults within a large (3 to 5k) radius of the base in interesting locations (inside the tip of a mountain, at the bottom of a ravine, at the deepest part of the oceans, etc) The vaults should contain chests, stacks of wood, and tool racks full of the stuff from your list. How much is in each vault and how many vaults you have is up to you. Just my 2 denarii...
  2. What other mods do you use with TFC?

ah right because railcraft only needs iron, coal, charcoal and wood blocks. hmmm. computercraft, however only requires smoothstone, gold, iron, glass, etc. Diamond pickaxes are required but I'm wondering if that could be easily changed to something like red/blue steel in a config file.
  3. What other mods do you use with TFC?

hmm... could something like thaumcraft be configured similarly?
  4. Unshaped ingot

The genre of civ games (think Civ, SMAC/X, or the newer Warlock) is turn based 4x - eXplore, eXploit, eXpand, eXterminate. you can get real time 4x games like Sins of a Solar Empire as well. The basic gist of the genre is as follows - you start with the very basics for building a base. You explore to find a suitable location, rich in resources to exploit. You use those resources to fuel technological research and unit production. You use these units and technologies to expand your bases and create new ones in new locations and with new resources. You then use your amalgamation of bases, units and technologies to befriend or conquer other players, exterminating them through assimilation or through destruction until you are the only one left. Your average game is expected to take several (3 to 10) hours based on difficulty and starting conditions. Combat is often strategic, not tactical. More emphasis is based on keeping your supply lines operational and keeping the units flowing than to individual combat movements such as where to shoot from, or how to keep your units in optimal firing range, etc. This is not to say that there are no tactics, but that they are less important than your overarching strategic goal. Modern 4x games are expected to have several winning conditions, the most common are: 1 - conquer all enemy factions through force. 2 - accumulate enough money to buy every faction out. 3 - diplomatically lead all factions to declare you their leader. 4 - discover the final technology, which gives you an instant win condition. My favorite 4x game is by far SMAX (Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri Alien Crossfire Expansion) but I am a fan of the genre as a whole. I hope this helps you, Just another guy have fun!
  5. Unshaped ingot

Academician Prokhor Zakharov from Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri.
  6. What other mods do you use with TFC?

I know now exactly which topic to completely ignore here (luckily it does not come up much) - it derails threads and sends me into a rant. I will be civil in these forums. Anyway - thread still seems alive with mod suggestions, so back to being on topic!
  7. Unshaped ingot

    Only time will tell :c
  8. What other mods do you use with TFC?

I apologize if this topic has been up before, I did search for "other mods" and the word "mods" and "tech" but couldn't find anything about this topic. I am asking because my room mate is not in favor of switching our server to one without computers to program, but everyone else on the server wants to make a TFC village. I started this thread to see if it would even be possible to compromise and get a content mod to play nice with TFC. Obviously I know now that this is not the case. Personally If I wanted to play with a Lua or Forth interpreter, I would just get (and have gotten) one instead of running it through minecraft. PS: hello again dunk!
  9. Unshaped ingot

according to wikipedia: "Crack or void formation occurs as the liquid to solid transition has an associated volume change for a constant mass of material. Formation of these ingot defects may render the cast ingot useless, and may need to be re-melted, recycled or discarded." I would not be surprised if the primitive casting method we use in TFC produces several cracks and imperfections as the ingot cools in the mold. Working such a flawed ingot by heating it and hammering it may solidify it into a solid homogeneous form.
  10. I'm curious - what mods have you found are successful/play nice with TFC? Right now I'm using Rei's minimap - but was curious if anyone's gotten anything else - possibly something like thaumcraft, computercraft, runic dust, etc.
