      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Coal into Coke

Yeah, I'm sorry for the confusing wording, I forgot that the process is call pyrolysis, however you got the point so whatever. The low yields were caused by many reasons like: inefficiencies in beehive construction, heat damage, lack of experience, inefficient cooling, etc. Like it was stated in the video, the heat from those mass production Beehive ovens would melt brick during processing, plus it took longer to process larger quantities of coke due to both charring and cooling time. The efficiency was increased when quenching was introduced, but the coke still had to be drawn out to dry.Early coke makers did not have as much experience in preventing the problems that can waste coal as well as a tried-and-true method of cooking. It just hadn't been done long enough. Pyrolysis done right can prevent coal from simply burning up and being turned to ash, this is why it is more efficient (I don't want to defend this method anymore, it was only an example).Edit: I believe the article only talks about beehive ovens and even specific quotes using beehive ovens in the 1800's had 40-50% yields. But real life yields don't really matter, they can be changed for balancing.
  2. Coal into Coke

One thing to understand when I give such yield statistics is that I'm referring to:[*]Coal loading weight from 20 to 40 tons, [*]The efficiencies at an age when the understanding of the coking process was lesser to ours. [*]The devs rough estimate of the time period we are working in (About the 1500s give or take 150 or so years), compared to historical yields. [*]The contents of coal was harder to determine back then and were prone to contain poor or volatile matter. This also kinda addresses why I stated that it took about week to prepare (Charcoal also takes about a week to prepare, however that is ignored in game for balancing reasons.) Also, today we can make coke in greater loads weights and still manage a 75% efficiency, however, this was harder for our predecessors to manage this so they could only manage this with smaller loads. Gasifying coal was referring to the Charring method and not the method intended to make Town Gas. What I mean is when fuel is placed into a container with a few holes and is heated externally until charring is complete. This would use smaller loads of coal but would have higher yields, like I said (this wouldn't be my first choice, but I was just bring out more options). This link shows the progress of gasifying research specifically for the production of gas http://www.netl.doe.gov/research/coal/energy-systems/gasification/gasifipedia/history-gasification Your statistics are more reasonable for players to be operating at (both in weight and yields), therefore, they are the best for use. Personally, I believe Coke will be a great tool for whenever the Devs decide to implement steam (or even just plumbing) to the game. Charcoal is great for making small scale things like tools and weapons, with it reaching the fringes of its abilities with armor and constructions. However, coke would make the creation of the infrastructure behind steam and other complex constructions more reasonable. Edit: Water powered bellows would also spoil the player of a manual task (lol)
  3. Coal into Coke

There are two earlyprocesses known for making Coke Coal. The Hearth Process and The Beehive oven which you can find basic info on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coke_(fuel)However, both processes have extremely low yields (expect 33%yields or lower), can take up toaweek to operate the Beehive(much longerfor the Hearth), large batches makeintense heat (reaching 3600 degrees Fahrenheit),and using lignitecoalreduces thequality and yield (this can be ignoreddue to item setup). Here is a video slideshow on Beehive ovens. Only the first6 minutes really matter.http://youtu.be/nknNiHzEIwg Although I only speak in negatives, I do not mean to say that coke will not work, However, since ithas already been considered and we are only looking for a way to implement it, we mayneed toinvent our own way of making coke so that it fits our needs without making it unbelievable. For example, coal can be gasifiedto produce Coke (just as crudely asCharcloth is made) with high yields but at smaller loads.what I'd like to see is a coke making method involving lava (lol)For more info about coke and its early production, check this out http://www.coke-oven-managers.org/PDFs/History%20of%20Coke%20Making%20section%204.pdf
  4. I think there are only two mods that would seek to benefit from this addon the greatest: Railcraft and/or Industrial Craft. Railcraft would be the easiest to intergate and would be the most gratifying.

Version #: 78.7 Suggested Name: Horse Auto-Breed Suggested Category:Minor Description: Horses will auto-breed with any female, evenjuveniles. I been recently testing horse on donkey breeding to make mules (Which was also unsuccessful, but I that doesn't matter now) and every single Female foal was impregnatedimmediatelyafter birth. 6. Metric vs imperial

I think you misunderstood what I meant. What I was saying, is that there is more to lose than money when It comes to the US making the change. When I was talking about the population, I was meaning that change can be managed better in smaller societies. My point was that quickchange of this magnitude cannot occur without force and that it takes time for people to agree that it is worth while. Another thing you have to take into account is the likelihood of us taking this on as one Nation (especially with our state system). The most likely scenario would be that each state makes adjustments as they see fit. Hopefully I'm wrong, and when the change happens, it will be voted out among the states whether to ratify the changes. There are many reasons why the United States have not fully invested into the change and it is not just money. It is a matter of priorities, cooperation, and understanding that makes this more difficult for us.
  7. Metric vs imperial

The Population of the United States is about318,025,000 individuals, Canada has about35,344,962 (that's almost 10x the population!). Of course, some would say that would mean we have much more tax dollars the throw our weight at changing our system, but you would be missing the point. The biggest issue to changing ourmeasurementsystem, besides the cost of changing all the road signs and such, is our population. So many people in the United State are still being taught very limited amounts, if anything, of the metric system and the level of confusion and unpopularity would be vastly greater than what we've seen of the whiners in this thread. To be serious, we've put ourselves in a trap, and the only way for the US to convert the system is to slowly introducing the metric system through each generation till all there is to lose from changing is money. People need to understand that we still have an oldergenerationwho refuse to adapt to the changes and the only way we could ever have a quick change is if we took away everyone's rights and forced them into relearning camps (jokes aside, It would literally take FORCEto get us to change like that and that doesn't make politicians very popular.) I cannot see the US adopting the metric system in the next 25 year or even 35 year. I'd even go as far to say that, if nocrisis prompts it to happen,it may take a solid 60 to 100 year for the change to be established.

  9. Burlap Sack

With the Introduction of Jute, it is only fitting that jute should be used for more than just rope Burlap, created from Jute fibers (maybe sheets made from the fibers, like wool),could be used as a more advanced way to store more than the vessels in portable inventory as well for food storage. Burlap sacks could used to store 6 slots rather than the 4 in the Ceramic Vessel. As a general idea, how do you think of this?
  10. Burlap Sack

Maybe, However, there is only one ever mention of burlap (or even your mention of Jute) on his thread besides the OP and that was long after I made this post (maybe coincidence). IDK if he had it before or if it was an edit... (it doesn't matter) No matter how it is handled, Burlap will definitely be an improvement for storage (Hopefully food storage).
  11. Burlap Sack

can you edit the merge in your post to resemble both our ideas (Due to the fact you got the idea from this post.)
  12. TerraFirma+ : Storage & Furniture

Burlap should be able to store more than just Grain. Like I said in my post, They should function like ceramic vessels (How it is used as a item holderand food preserver), but with the advantages of having more space to store items (6 or 9?)

  14. [B78.7] Jute Vanishes in SMP

Version #: 78.7 Suggested Name: Vanishing Jute Suggested Category: Severe-Annoying Description: Planted jute disappears in SMP, have not been able to identify direct reason. I believe that it is how the server handles jute after long hiatus from a chuck. After testing Jute in SP, Jute growth seems to be functioning (Full growth from June 1 to August 6 of the first year in 1000 Rain environment) so I do not believe it is a growth issue. 15. Salt from Saltwater

Doubt that a barrel would believable. The point of a bowl is the fact that the sun can evaporate the water and the salt can be scraped from the bowl into a pile.
  16. Salt from Saltwater

Sea water averages 35 grams (~1.2 oz) of salt for every liter of seawater. I could see 1 salt, but no more per bowl. If it ever exists, it a bowl of water should be placed down in sunlight with the same mechanic to place down ceramics.
  17. [B78.7] Horse Auto-Breeding INSANITY

here is a seed: 5729007056373582381 I found my donkey here: X:-1265 Z:-7792 There should be more horses farther negative X in the wastelands Only issue I can foresee in this is that Mob spawn are random and not based on seed. Yet, most Horses spawn in wasteland or plains biomes
  18. [B78.7] Jute Vanishes in SMP

No other crops are effected by this. I've seen grown Jute in the wild in newly rendered chucks, but I've yet to let it continue to grow.
  19. [B78.7] Horse Auto-Breeding INSANITY

Um, this will take a sec as I retrieve server, but just want to ask if Auto-breeding is enabled on horses. I've seen juveniles in the wild that are pregnant recently. Yet it is Every female horse I've seen on every Multiplayer and Singleplayer map i've rendered had pregnant females. Best way to confirm this, that i've seen, was using Spawn eggs. They will auto-breed once they identify each other. If it's not working on your side then I may have to look into this some more. #edit#

Sweet, can't wait to be able to use a Halberd again!
  22. If you consider that a single nutrient only supports about 200 of 1000 health it makes a difference. Zombies hit for about 50-100 hp and arrow and javelins hit for twice that. (And imagine PvP damage !) As for variety, there seems to be a modifier on each meal (That percentage near the Taste). Once a meal is made, Depending on your Cooking experience and the ingredients you use, you may be able to double if not triple the saturation of a meal. The main thing to consider when with meals is that Everyone will use them if they want to survive, they are not meant as a Buff for anything except your health.
  23. Easy, in fact I can provide many reason to make meal. One, your health is no longer a stable figure. It fluctuates depending on how much of each nutrient you have. Food by themselves only provide 1 nutrient per consumption. It may fill your belly but it will leave you worse off in health. Meals provide a way to fill up to 4 nutrients and fill your belly. Two, meals stretch the value of food depending on how tasty it is, filling your belly with less food for longer. Three, meals are convent to carry. They allow a player to carry a reasonable amount of food while leaving you main food supply in storage. This prevents travel rot and stretches food storage.
