      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Believability VS well, just Believability

To be honest, the only gripe I have with TFC is the crafting table, which I don't hold against anyone. That thing is real hard to get rid of, and they've been making plenty of progress towards doing that. Also lava, but not a big deal IMO.
  2. Bauxite (Aluminum Ore)

There is such a thing as native aluminum. Like I said it is so rare that no usable amount of it could ever be found, but it exists. see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aluminum#Natural_occurrence -or- http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1367912010002087
  3. Ingame money

Coins made from useful metals have value because you can use the metals. You're not even wrong. A copper coin can contribute to the making of a copper tool, but even a dollar bill (that has no utility) still has value.
  4. Custom Render - Firepit

Maybe someday a mechanic for infection will be implemented. Who knows?
  5. Ingame money

I would very much recommend that coins be fractions of ingots that divide the number 100 evenly. there are 100 units in a single bar so 1/2, 1/4, 1/5, 1/10, 1/20 etc is much more appropriate than 1/64 or 1/12.
  6. Custom Render - Firepit

Because firepits play such a pivotal role early game and they are seen so often, I agree that they should be beautified. to be honest, I wouldn't mind firepit crafting being revamped entirely. A rock ring initially served as a safety measure, but maybe adding rocks can be a way to make a firepit permanent. Without a ring, they might de-spawn when they go out (or leave behind ash, which can be useful for soap-making).
  7. yep, this time at 12:13
  8. server crashed @ 11PM GMT-6
  9. Ingame money

TFC? Complicated? Nawww.... X3 But in all seriousness, vanilla Minecrafters might make the same argument about the TFC mod. Some of us just like more complexity, is all. (and see my previous post for why coins aren't useless)
  10. What is TFC to you?

You're taking my statement out of context. I'm giving my opinion, not the official mission statement of TFC. Besides, IMO realism is conducive to believability. The more realistic the results of my actions are, the easier my suspension of disbelief is to support.
  11. What is TFC to you?

Well, that's precisely it, actually; realism. I propose using water as the barrier because that's what it is in real life. I admit there's a flaw here because it would require additional coding to ensure that water always filled in air blocks and non-solid blocks would need to be rendered unplaceable, but it still would be a viable barrier because it's prohibitively difficult to mine underwater. Like I said in my last post: to me, TFC is realism. That's what I love most about it.
  12. Ingame money

I would love to refer you to an earlier topic discussing this: http://terrafirmacraft.com/f/topic/3647-coinage-and-coining/ I think it would be an excellent idea to add coinage to the available technology, especially with the inclusion of metal casting via clay moulds. There has been plenty of detail included by others in this earlier topic that can shed light on how this can be done. As for their purpose, it matter little that TFC features pre-historic and early history tech - Minecraft is a social game. There are valuable resources to trade and services to provide and a developing economy eventually moves towards some kind of standardization. In smaller servers this is no big deal, but in larger ones, it would be especially appropriate to have a currency available to standardize trade; even more so as more and more people advance in technology. Besides, a smaller denomination makes it easier for newer members of a large server to become productive and allows others to make smaller exchanges.
  13. What is TFC to you?

Hey Dunk, have you looked at "Cubic Chunks" at all? It might help with proper scaling for terrain. Besides that, a nice idea would be to replace the lava with water. Water tables and aquifers are the natural barriers to most mining endeavors, and it would be much more realistic (assuming it's even possible) to actively replace any air block with water below a certain level - which brings me to the topic of discussion: TFC, to me, is realism. I love the realistic application of the hardships of simple living, and how accurately it depicts the processes that go into making technology possible. TFC is my favorite tech mod. Everything makes sense and there are no shortcuts to success (except for that accursed crafting table! *shakes fist*). It makes things that were trivial in vanilla feel like a real accomplishment, and gives me something to look forward in anticipation (ropes and pulleys? wink wink?)
  14. Doesn't preclude the possibility of both
  15. If you want to edit the wiki.

I've been meaning to get a whack at this wiki for a while now, and I can imagine with the new update you might need some manpower. I'd love to do some tidying up in all those little corners, but I can also fill in the new content. What do you say? Wiki name: Ardent
  16. Wiki Edits/Suggestions

-In "Storage Solutions" it says that Ceramic Vessels can be stored in Ceramic Vessels. -Block IDs are shown in "Storage Solutions" -Anvils and Barrels are placeable on ground
  17. Alternatively, there can be a clay-based solution. There is a "Ceramic Pot" that currently has no recipie. What if that pot is to be used as a lesser stand-in for barrels, allowing a single piece of leather to be soaked, as opposed to the 64 limit for barrels? I wouldn't be surprised if that is already the plan.
  18. And it's certainly possible to be both. Tough decisions like these will always draw an antagonist crowd, don't take it personally. Workaround mods are just going to keep popping up no matter what you do. I for one support your decision, as I've never heard of a stone-hewn chest, nor can I imagine any way a sturdy one can be manufactured. However, if someone wants to make a magic mod like this one, nothing can really stop them.
  19. Build 77

I hope they do refill thirst. Alcohol is a diuretic, but the effects aren't immediate. If a potion effect can be implemented to increase the rate of dehydration, that could be applied when you drink it, along with the immediate benefit of refilling a portion of your thirst bar. It would be a net loss, sure, but the immediate effect would be positive.
  20. Wiki Edits/Suggestions

-The picture for the calendar GUI is missing on the "Calendar" page. -The "Quern" and "Land" pages are missing the navigation panel. -"Fruit Tree" does not redirect to "Fruit Trees" -The spawn rate of fruit trees seems to be related to lattitude. Maybe those trees can be organized by the common temperatures they are found in. -In the navigation pane, it might be cleaner to link the words "Ores" and "Metals" directly to the "Ores & Minerals" page rather than relying on redirects. The words will be properly bolded to indicate that you're on the right page if this is done. -Rotating the tables on the "Ores & Minerals" page may allow the tables to fit properly.
  21. Tiny Tweaks Metathread

-Biome appropriate gravel. Sand and dirt are colored in relation to the stone in the area, why not gravel? -Log piles leak when raining. A cheap, recyclable building that can keep your campfire dry? nawww... -Shears of all metal types, and plans to accompany them. -Add a turf-harvesting mode to hoes. Maybe more than a tweak, but sticks + grass shorn from the earth = an inexpensive early building material.
  22. Bauxite (Aluminum Ore)

Alum, or aluminum salts, can be found naturally or manufactured and has been used as an astringent, antiseptic, and antibiotic - as well as being useful in clarifying water and as an additive in dyes. It's also an important ingredient in certain methods of tanning. If bleeding and infection become an issue, or if drinking water can be contaminated then alum would become a huge asset for the wayward crafter. ...although I can't imagine any use for bauxite, extremely rare bits of native aluminum can be found in volcanoes or the cold seeps of ancient seas. Imagine - a great war spanning an entire continent over the posession of a tiny fragment of this mysterious metal. To be honest, a volcano itself would probably be more impressive...
  23. Small adjustments to ores/rocks/sluices?

It would also probably eliminate the need for extra IDs if we did logs that way as well.
  24. There should always be a red flag popping up in your mind if you ever feel compelled to use expletives on a forum. It means you're too emotionally invested in the topic and probably starting/perpetuating a flame-war. Please try to keep things civil. It only serves to hurt your reputation to get vindictive. As for my two cents, I personally disapprove of the restrictions put on information available about the mod for these reasons: -These data are always available with other mods, and it's part of MC culture to be open about these things -The data for this mod is already publicly available, just mildly obfuscated (i.e. raw code) so that the lay-man can't understand it -The policy for the wiki 'only info that can be found out in-game' is actually worded more mildly than the enforcement of it -Working with inaccurate measuring tools (lack of data) doesn't make the game feel any more 'magical' Given this, I have no formal objection to the way this is carried out because: -The rules of the forums and wiki are set by those who run it, and at their discretion and -There is no legal measure that can be taken against you should you choose to publish any of those numbers as long as you do not publish any actual code or other copyrighted material and you do so in a place that doesn't explicitly forbid you from doing so (AKA the official forums or wiki) Everyone's opinion about this issue has been made known and is unlikely to change, but think about this: Thaumcraft has 3 wikis - Industrialcraft is covered extensively by at least 5. Most of these wikis are well made, operated by third parties, and are fully covered under 'fair use' laws.
  25. Small adjustments to ores/rocks/sluices?

Gravel outside the range of ores doesn't need to be generated with metadata, and using gravel with a goldpan can strip the metadata from it, allowing it to be stacked. Otherwise we could distinguish between pre-generated gravel and player-moved gravel the same way that leaves in vanilla MC are, which renders the issue moot.
