      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. IRL if a stalactite forms(the hanging one), a stalagmite will form underneath it, as the water drops from the hanging on, onto the upwards growing one. With time, give it 1 million years these two will join together, and form a column, so i can see where you are coming from with this post.

Although what benefit would be gained, if it was implemented so it actually works like this? I can only really see it as a really technical issue right now?

  2. Looks great so far.  Except now all my ideas for my addon are gone.... hehehe well done

I really like this this one though...... Would be epic to have tar pools, and use it for burning ect. Could have pitch ditches as traps, a pitch fueled lantern that you could hold and would display light.... :D

    • Consider adding tar/pitch pools, lighting it on fire with arrows, fire starter or flint and steel... let your mind run wild.
    • Salt water/salt preserving food be an actual thing.

  3. are you using the technic launcher?

    NO, that is just....

If you are using the techinic launcher to play a illigal mod pack version of TFC (illigal in the way that dunk, or bioxx have said no to it being put on there) then you are probabley using an old version of TFC.

My suggestion? Got to the top of the page, click download (as in the page), read the details, click download (actually download the file) get forge, install that, then put TFC on.....No need for the technic launcher..............grrrrr

  4. you certainly have a point. This seems to be the death of most of the community and the mod in general.

    "i certainly am B2"

  5. Theres an addon, I think its the water canteen mod, it was made specifically for TFCraft.

    You mean leather water sack?

I really think this topic need to be started again, all fresh, and under the addons section?

  6. A smoke house would be great, and would add a lot of variety to foods, while giving a bit of a path to take regarding food. Even if nutrition/food rot ect isn't implemented, i still think it would be great. Pickling houses, stewing rooms, ect could also add to this.

  7. Ive alreadyy suggested it before, but i think sticks should be able to be built into a wall and a roof, placed on the ground, and then covered with mud, leaves, poo, grass, dirt ect. If all goes to plan, i will hopefully be able to implement this into my own mod that im learning to do.

Oh and they should also be able to be put into bundles, to be able to be used as firewood, traps ect ect The list goes on..........

  8. , Dunk has some unexplaned hatred of anything that isn't perfectly, exactly true to real life being in TFC.

And thats the way that i believe it should follow too.

  9. Due to the mixed emotions regarding this addons i came up with a few ideas to compensate a bit. These are just ideas, im not trying to imposes them.

When you split wood, it would split in to 3 peices as currently, althought these peices would be "rough planks" These "rough planks"  would then need to be turned into into normal planks before they can be used (maybe rough planks could be used for a few rough things?) Using a rock and the rough plank, it would then bring up a GUI "just like the knapping" where you would need to smooth out the plank. This would need to be done for all the planks bofore they become usable.

    Thoughts?

  10. ok,

Personally i lean towards the space restricted inv management system. Why? Because i feel, that if weights and the a likes was the way to go, the game would turn into the sort of thing fallout and Skyrim have, ie spending 8 minutes sorting out my inventory, ect. I personally don't want that sort of thing, and i also feel that the space way would be better.

Regarding the Space method, i like how you would have limited space for different sized objects, and i can't really see any problems with it. Having Handcarts ect would just elaborate on the task.

Now regarding tools. I thought as Hyena has suggested it, i better go it proper detail.

Simple the way it would work is. (Let’s use a sword for example) All tools would be carried as is right now in the inventory, but this poses as problem. This sword is now taking up valuable space. So to combat that, you could craft a scabbard. The sword would then be able to store in the scabbard, and as a result the sword would also no take up inv. What other Pros? When the scabbard is worn, it would open a new hotbar slot that is only reserved for swords. This would also be added to the use of quivers, ect.

    Clothes?

I would like to see clothes added to the game as many people would. Warmth and protection are just some of the things that clothes could provide. But Clothes wouldn’t just stop there.

I would like to see different types of clothes added, so having the warmest clothing isn’t the best for mining ect. Some types I would like to see are, clothes for warmth, heat, scouting, mining, trading, heavy(protective clothing, ) chainmail, ect (Just examples). Each types of clothing would have different effects, like, increasing/decreasing inventory  space, protecting from the temperature, allowing quicker move speed ect.  This would cause people to have to choose clothing depending on the conditions they will meet, not just “this is made out of Blue Steel”

The there are unique items, that would have the ability to store certain items Some ideas

-Scabbard- (as suggested) would allow a sword (maybe other weapons?) to be carried within, without taking up space. Items that are stored are added to the hotbar (button 0).

-Tool belt- would allow the carry of hammers, chisels, axes (maybe shovels) and would have the same sort of principles as the scabbard.

-combat webbing- Would allow the use and carry of more combat weapons/items.

-Quiver- Able to carry arrows, maybe gives the ability to sling bow over back?

(Note; I’m sure there is more to add, but I can’t remember some at the moment, so these are just a few rough ideas)

One of the main things with these unique systems would be how they work with clothes. For example tools belts wouldn’t work as well with red steel armour, and heavy clothing  or chainmail, where combat webbing would work well as it is all combat based.

This whole idea needs to be elaborated on, as this is only a quick rough job, as I just wanted to get the full idea out.

  11. I like the idea of stumps. One of the most brilliant parts of Thaumcraft is that your challenges are largely the result of your advancement. Chopped trees leaving hard-to-remove stumps is both authentic and creates a problem the player needs to deal with. This would push the player into a nomadic life, or at least to range far for materials, or to work harder to maintain a certain spot. This meshes well with the real stone age.

    I'd suggest further:

[*]that saplings shouldn't be able to be planted touching a log

[*]at least some types of trees have a chance to regrow from stumps (some types of trees will regrow from stumps almost certainly)

[*]stumps have a very low chance of rotting away (dissapearing)

    [*]metal tools can remove stumps

[*]stone tools can't remove stumps unless the dirt/whatever blocks below and around are removed. (This would require some new limits on valid sapling placement to prevent easily grubbed stumps with no dirt below and around, except the block it was planted on.)

I don't understand your idea of chopping blocks.

If you are suggesting that the wood be "physically" placed on a chopping block in the world, and then hit with an axe, i see two problems:

[*]If stumps are half-blocks, then chopping blocks should be half-blocks. When you put a full block on a half-block it floats .5 meters above it.

[*]Mindless, repetitive clicks-- lots of them

This was suggested on the other post. Do you think you could implement some of these ideas, like stumps ect?

  12. And what about making clay vessels into mini-chests. With their own 3D model and that act like normal chest.

Thanks for the heads up Veelay, that does look good. I would rather see the 3D pseudo-sprite placed like a sign than an always-facing sprite, but it's still an improvement.

And Euphoric, yeah I thought of that also. Just fashion a fully three dimensional pot and plunk it into the world. I can't think of a reason not to do this, but perhaps there is.

I think it would look awsome too, and esspecially with the model dunk has already made, but if you read the following thread, dunk states that Bioxx doesn't want 3D models....read more for the whole story

  13.

Working such things as carts, wheelbarrows and whatnot into the game could be really cool.

.  Firstly, minecarts presuppose that the individual has iron.  Acquiring iron could, currently, take miles of branch mining.  You're still looking at weeks of doing nothing but carrying twenty stones back and forth.  Then let's say that you've got the iron... now are you going to use it up on a minecart and rail?  rails are currently very expensive.

Thats the thing, for this system to work there would need to be other methods of carting goods around. You said it yourself, carts (human powered, animal powered(horse, bull/ox)) wheelbarrows, minecarts (having wooden one would help early on (if it makes sence), while you could upgrade later for more speed/ more carry capacity), even sleds if you wanted to go that far.

Unless these are added, then the game would not work, as as you stated it would take years just to mine a small tunnel.

Personally i think if done correctly, it could work great, as it would make people actually use carts for what they are ment for, and would encourage the use of roads ect.

  14. This could be done with 4 ore pieces smelted equally as a full ingot, whether you receive 2-3 from a tool.

Another aspect of creating tools is a notion proposed in this (or even others) topic - Pouring different amounts of material for tools leading to different amount of ore pieces drop after breaking a tool.

Im not really sure what you mean by that? :P

are you saying that the more expensive an item is worth the more you get back, or the more materials you pour into a tool the more you get back?

Also i was thing that when your tool head broke, you would be able to pick up the pieces which would be "piece of xxx head". Not all pieces would be the same size of metal, so it wouldn't be a factor of "just re smelt 5 broke head pieces andyou have your self a new ingot"

  15. Point me how, and I'll code it. And some other things too.

Im actually on my path right now of trying to learn to code, so i can add those things that i have always wanted, if that is for vanilla, or for TFC.

So you know how to code?

Are you asking of a way to implement this idea?

    0

  16. Ooh, that would be cool .. give zombies raw meat and they stay your friends .. until they get hungry again ;)

.. hmm .. now i have to try and implement this...

Maybe turn them into your own foot soliders, and they would attack other hostiles?

    0

  17. Would be great, but make sure that things are split up enough so that when you read something, you know exactly what it is refering to, not "so i just read all that, but is that under copper, or wrought iron?"

  18. I disagree with the idea that the inventory space should be reduced further.  Is it unrealistic?  Yes.  But consider mining with a "realistic" inventory space.  How many trips out of your mine do you want to make just to make a 1x2 tunnel?  Further, that rock you mined up should have to contain the same space in the real world shouldn't it?  It shouldn't fit in a chest... it should occupy a huge mound right outside your mine entrance.

With the amount of mining that most of us... possibly all of us... do this inventory reduction would simply add tedium to the game.

If you don't think so I have a suggestion; go to your mine and mine ONE piece of rock... then cart it to the entrance and go back and mine ONE more piece of rock.  Continue to mine in this way for an hour.  Fun huh?

You want realism?  I've a more realistic idea than limited inventory space... go to your local hardware store and buy yourself a pick axe... no go find a quarry (or dig your own if you have the land) and mine up some stone.  There ya go.  That's fun.

Realism does not always equate to fun.  I believe I read it somewhere on this forum that Bioxx and Dunk aren't going for "realism" so much as believability.  It's a game... it's a fantasy... we suspend disbelief.

    edit:

If we're going to have limited inventory space and move in this direction then we may as well also ask Dunk to remove the Single Player button from the menu screen... TFCraft is definitely more catered toward multiplay but changes like this one would make the single player experience an exercise in frustration.

You come up with some very good points there.  True if it was downscaled a lot it would make the game boring, but it could be worked around. For example, I said that there would be a back pack slot. Wheel barrows, back packs, and minecarts (they would actually be used for their proper use) could all help to avoid the problem.

Also im sorry if i confused you from my above post, but im not suggestion that INV gets reduced to 2 spaces, im suggesting that there would be 5-10 slots for items that arn't carried in a slot, eg sword, quiver ect. To add to that, your INV could always be increased, by wearing for instance a back pack, a ruck sack, a satchel/pouch, combat webbing ect. And then it could also be increased, by the actuall clothes you are wearing (this would stimulate pockets) cargo pants(lots of added INV space), overalls, ect. This idea also ties into the clothing suggestion people have made, and if it was to be so, would stop people from wearing the same clothes all the time, as not all clothes would be good for all enviroments.

  19. Yes true, and thats why some metal loss would need to happen when a tool head broke. For believability purposes "my axe head broke into pieces, so i only picked up the large pieces"

@Ranadiel Yes, but maybe if i broke my stone shovel, when it broke it might form a few sharp pieces, which i would then be able to trun into knifes..?
