      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. I like the concept of a mini game especially with fire starting as there is currently no feedback when you click if you fail(apart from durability loss on the fire starter).

But the idea of spamming my mouse doesn't sound too appealing.

Perhaps like in the anvil there could be the names of certain techniques eg (Spin sticks, rub, blow air, ect). And again the game could be based on getting the sticks hot enough but certain circumstances are good and others are bad eg: if you use blow to early you blow it out, if you spin for too long you could knock off the ember, if you rub for too long you suffocate the ember.

  2. Maybe visual clues. Drips of water falling. Different tones of colour of the grass. Slightly different particles when starting to dig the block.

Anyway, you are right; it's a little overcomplicated, both for player and for the computer. Basically we would add extra data to every block in existence, and that may be a little too much. But it would be so close to reality... And once you know how much humidity is on an area, the dinamic creation of streams and rivers becomes a posibility, even with finite water.

Perhaps the biome could have an effect as the biomes are already distinctive enough for players to recognise or additional the idea of seasons has been kicked around quite a bit which I think would have more effect on the possibility of landslides in reality. Seasons could be determined by a sundial type device that shows the approximate month or perhaps a slight tint could be added to the sky when the sun is setting. eg keep red for summer, greenish for spring, blue for winter, brown for autumn.

  3. do not suggest a growing cycle I would very much prefer to be able to actually survive even if it took like four days to grow wheat by then I would have died multiple times or be running around like a savage attempting to kill and eat raw meat. That sounds entertaining but it would get extremely boring after doing once or twice. I however do like the idea of foliage changing color with season, weather changing, animal behavior changing, small stuff like that that would look nice or add depth nothing that would make the game more difficult. (sorry for the rage no one said it but someone was thinking it  whoever it was I'm watching you)

As far as I am aware a large part of the reason for this mod being crated was to add a challenge and more realism to what is currently a very easy game.

I look forward to the challenge an so would have to disagree with you.

  4. The new addition to the anvils to make the crafted tools durability correspond to the quality of the craft was great but I would like to see some changes made to the durability regarding how it decreases so predictably. If the items degraded a little more randomly it would encourage the player to be more prepared as there tools durability would not be as indefinite as shown.

This could be implemented by adding a random element to how tools are damaged rather than having a consistent value.

This would more accurately represent the effect of a tool generally being totally fine for a long period of time and then suddenly breaking or becoming significantly damage.

  5. I was thinking this could be extended to dropped tools when they are in there item form on the ground they could be change into this form. This would mean when you are killed then your tools will not de-spawn after ten minutes which makes no sense and would also add a bit of history to the game as when you walk past an old fight there would be your sword which on a multilayer server with many players would look pretty cool after a large war.

  6. My sugestion is simply that if you don't cover your stacks of wood and it rains then they will begin to rot and either be destroyed or converted into compost. This would make the first night log roof less viable as it would need to be exchanged before it rains. This could be easily shown on the logs with a few specs of green on the texture.

Another posiblity could be the requirement to dry wood before it is useable for fuel or perhaps just to make it more efficent as in reality this must be done to remove the moisture from the wood. Certain woods could perhaps dry faster or already be fairly dry to speed up the change.

  7. SOLD heheheh. Though maybe accompany the storm with big dust cloud sprites as well to make it appear more authentic :)

Yeah a large dust cloud would hide the fact that the blocks look a bit stiff when the slide(don't go at angles). But this may cause lag issues especially as the landslide for the other mod looked a bit resource hungry by itself.

  8. Ok, let's refine this. This is one way I see possible to make it happen.

Suppose we have two types of materials. One type is the materials that are solid as a block. The other are materials that are made of loose materials. In the first class we can put bricks, solid stone... the other group are cobblestones, sand and gravel, dirt and similars.

Then, lets suppose, for each block, we could see what's the humidity level. Cold weathers, water nearby, rain, other blocks with a big humidity level, etc, adds to the humidity. Desert climate, fire, lava, etc, removes humidity from the block. Then, each block type (or, in a extreme version, each individual material) could have a minimal humidity level for "sticking" to the block next to it. If one block has that minimal level, then it becomes "sticky" and doesn't landslide. If not, then once each, say, 5 or 10 minutes, there's a check with a very low provability of the landslide happening.

How's that for a prototype? Good idea, bad idea?

Good idea but possibly a bit overcomplicated. If this was implemented for cave ins and other ideas people have had like thirst ect then it would be worth making landslides effected by weather but otherwise I think its a little too complicated mostly because it would be difficult to tell what the humidity and other variables are without more equipment that may be too technologically advanced for the current mod as it stands.

  9. well if we go with diffrent crops we could put it to where we need to swich out what crop we grow where because of nutrishion for the crops has changed in the ground.

I like the sound of that, also as there are different types of dirt perhaps the different types could be made to be more or less suitable depending on there types.

This could lead into the addition of prospecting potential farming plots. Not with the propick by the way but maybe some acidity tests ect.

  10. Saplings are not that hard to get and tree farming is already viable. I do it all the time.

As far as I am aware this mod is being designed to add a bit of realism to MC with influences coming from Dwarf Fortress. Therefore this idea makes sense regardless of whether or not you think its too easy.

  11. Just so you know nuclear physics isn't that difficult to use it's just extremely difficult to do it on a large scale safely. Basically you need a radiation source (preferably one that can be controlled by the addition or removal of free neutrons) and then expose it to something that can convert heat into power aka steam engines.

To prove my point there was an article on the news on how a guy in his garage made a small nuclear reactor. I don't know the full story but radio active sources are everywhere so can be obtained if you really wanted them, for example fire alarms. The major difficulty would be obtaining the source with primitive materials.

I not necessarily supporting the idea as there would need to be a significant addition of pre processes to the mod to allow this and then also there would need to be a use other than something as simple as a bloomery as who would go out of there way to develop nuclear power when they can use coal.

  12. Not a good idea, simply because it would look terrible if the tree was next to something.

If you mean it would look bad falling on something because some would rest on top and make it look like the tree has been split I totally disagree as that's not too dissimilar to what would happen in reality and the current method is no where near. This would improve the immersion and also would not be to difficult to implement due to most of the difficult being in detecting which logs belong to which tree and that's already implemented.

  13. Maybe make the terrain smooth? Blocks aren't very realistic. Also make water finite like in the Finite Liquids mod? Infinitely flowing water is pretty unrealistic too! The Nether doesn't exist in real life, let's remove it! =.=

I agree with the water but the smooth blocks would be more than is possible with a mod as far as I am aware.

  14. I wouldn't mind seeing this either. Though this would be so punishing for some minecraft LP youtubers, because they hit things to bring the crowds attention to the thing.

Fair enough point but I have seen LP with this feature with no problems as they adapted very quickly. Also I think that there was still a split second where clicking has no effect which gives time for taping a block with no negative effects.

Plus to be fair if I was showing of something IRL I don't often hit it.

  15. Yeah, asside from the nerved durability and speed of the stone axe it's going to take as long as in vanilla minecraft. Once you get to the stone axe. Remember you need to collect 4 pieces of wood using flint tools first. It's going to hurt the time you have to prepare for nightfall significantly on the first day.

Also I remember seeing massive trees with a 2x2 base, just imagine the lagspike you'd get felling that one. What about when the terrain isn't flat I can imagine a tree falling off a cliff, or it falling up the side of a mountain. All not that nice prospects, but it's not the worst. However those 2x2 trees I mentioned earlier, fell one of those and it would kill you if it falls your way.

There would not be that much lag if any, as i'm suggesting they fall just like sand but with a slight movement to the side. Even a big tree is at most 40 blocks and that much falling sand has no negative effect for my average laptops performance. If it lands on you and kills you then fair enough that makes total sense so what's the problem. In terms of preparing for night one second to get four logs is not going to cause any noticeable delays at all.

In my opinion this addition would fit in very well with the current mod making it yet more immersive and realistic which is the whole point of the mod.
