      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Maybe the victory of TFC Steve over the broken diamond armour.   Or continuing the theme of the first one you did showing the bloomery and anvil you could have Steve working a loom, though not sure that'll be as epic.  Something, something epic bear battle.

  2. Whelp, WoW is a trap. (Also I got a job! Huzzah!) So haven't been in the world in a while.  What I found was that 1 of my small projects wasn't complete the 2nd not even started and I hadn't even completed my iron anvil.  With all the updates I'm behind not to mention a ton of awesome addons that are new thinking I'll just start over.  Still really want to complete the buildings so I may yet do that in a future world but in the meantime here are a handful of screen shots of what I got done in SSP and 1 that I had planned out in creative.(White Elm needs more love :)  )

    Miner Shack Small Project 1

Missing the stone I wanted for this one (chimney) and the dirt I used in the creative picture I don't have in SSP.  Hardest part was placement since It's above my copper mine which I had already started so placed the wall to line up (hopefully) with where I wanted the access shaft to be.

Big Project aka why you hate white elm?

Still planning to build this one, guess this can be a teaser

    Rough Design from Creative

Only a handful of pics and I know someone wanted to see some interior pics of the blacksmith I might hop into the creative world and put together a "What I would have done".

So I guess this is it time to update and begin anew. (Didn't even finish the barn but man was I happy when I found those reeds.)

  3. Of course, I myself think I first saw that kinda of stone path in one of Spud Gunn's let plays.  Yeah it is a balancing act with the stone work, it helps that the building uses only slabs or stairs no detailed blocks at all.  Though the next big house uses tons of lumber which I think will be a problem and the small project makes use of a few detailed blocks but it's not all that close to these buildings so I don't think it'll be a problem.

  4. Woo *highfive* Sucked in by family. lol  I logged on for a moment ended up just looking to see if Winter Veil had any new pets to try and collect.  Gotta catch em' all!  (It's a trap)  Waiting for the sister to be online before actually jumping into WoD stuff.  Soon~

Edit:  Garrison is awesome, feel like that's going to suck me in.  First dungeon was pretty quick and I really like the new loot system.

  5. I'm pretty sure animals can't die of starvation and there is no guarantee that a predator will also spawn nearby.  I don't disagreeing with the principal of the thing, wild animals should be able to breed in order to be believable/realistic however I simply feel/think it will break the game.

To princeofmadness, there is already a limit written into the vanilla code.  The Disappearing Sheep See Kitty's posts.

Edit: It just occurred to me you might mean to add a mechanic to allow animals to die of starvation, that would create other problems. What if you can't find grain? What if you just have very little grain, only enough to feed 1 animal? If you have a large farm how do you make sure you've actually feed all your animals?  You could easily find yourself in a tough spot early game with as few as 2 animals.

It's talked about here Animal Feeding Trough briefly I think.  This sums up my thoughts on the matter of 'animal hunger'

make animal hunger important but not devastating.

But that is a whole other topic.

  6. I'm pretty sure this would in the end be a very bad idea.  I recall the horse apocalypse where every female horse spawned pregnant I think even when born a female horse would be pregnant.  Creating a lot of lag on servers.  Horses everywhere.  Your suggestion would multiple that ten-fold, in my SSP I have many wild animals in the area around me (Pigs/Wolves/Deer/Horses) Where 2 or 3 pigs become 8-12, then next year 20-60. (Assuming 1 female pig to start then a small litter of 8 pigs with half of them being female.)

    The game would become unplayable.

As for the second point, I honestly like the additional game play mechanic adding another layer to animal care and maintenance.

  7. Whelp I hate/love my sister but yesterday she talked me into joining her for a return to Azeroth.  (Why aren't scrolls of resurrection a thing anymore, pity.)  So tonight I'll shall be patching, but thought I'd make a post see if anyone else has fallen into the new expansion/peer pressure trap.

Played closed beta (Sister had gotten in let me muck around for a while.)  Enjoyed it, bought it at release though quit after 3 months (We both did.) due to the fact I was also playing FFXI and I just didn't have time for 2 MMO's and FFXI had WAY more content at the time and WAY less bugs. lol  Two years later we quit FFXI and found ourselves back in Azeroth and it's been an on again off again relationship ever since.

Wrath is when we got into raiding and it was the best thing ever.  With all the usual ups and downs. (Freaking drama) into Cata things began to fall apart. Sadly.

Good times, good friends.  I've already heard from her that a few of them still play so that'll be nice. :)

  8. Well might make your life easier to go back a step.  Just set up a TFC server no other mods.  Then from there you can add a mod and see if it causes problems.

    To Below

    Edit http://wiki.terrafirmacraft.com/Installation

Wiki is your friend.  If you want a Youtube type guide I'm sure you can search for one, just make sure it's not a ba-jillion years old.  Something for build 78 I'd imagine would work fine.

Edit again just in case, but if you do find a b78 Youtube vid be sure when actually putting a server together you get the versions of forge needed for whatever TFC version you are using.

  9. Greetings!  Welcome to the board. :)

I think Bunsan pretty much covered your questions.  For me winter has never really posed a problem but I do so much exploring that first year, so in SSP I end up with so much food.  Currently living at z-7800 so the temperature does fall below 0 but not for long, downside the summers are pretty hot so food decay is much faster.

Finding rock types is just luck and persistence

This.  I think when I was exploring North looking for Douglas Fir it was easily 1200-1500 blocks before I saw a top layer rock change, but East I hit a new rock in 200 or less.

  10. It's possible that with all of the piglets you have, the game has reached the mob cap for that area, so it despawned some animals to lower the number of mobs in the area to be under the cap.

Suddenly it makes sense.  Yeah when it happened I figured there was a reason for it and had 2 other pigs and their litter so wasn't the end of the world.

  11. Thank you Anquieta.   :)  The basement turned out better than expected, using it as a work area with hide processing and a loom station as well as more storage.  The time wasn't to bad since I had a lot of fun planning and building.  Already have a (*rough) design for my next house as well as 2 smaller projects planned.

Thanks so much Udary, I'm glad to hear I've inspired. :D  You should totally show off screenshots too!  (This forum needs more action. lol )

I had actually planned to post interior screenshots as well but 2 things; One I already had to post 3 times and two I've not been able to find reeds. :(  Which means no books which really hurts interior decorating.

Edit Dec 20th: I found reeds today. B)

  12. In my SSP I had this happen with a pig.  I had 1 male 3 females all pregnant, shortly after they popped 1 of the female pigs and her entire litter disappeared.  It was weird.  I've had other pigs disappear but with them I'd find their bones and hide so they most likely suffocated in a block.  More recently 2 female cows vanished without a trace.

  13. It takes a few in game days before you'll see the heart fill a bit, but shortly after that so long as you don't miss a day you'll get the white boarder.  Think a total of 5 in-game days before you get the white boarder.

  14. This is mostly a mish-mash of random pics from my world.  (And a few from the creative since I can't actually "complete" the blacksmith in survival yet)

Bismuth Mine I seriously lucked out, this is normal (right side 25 units) and rich (left side 35 units).

Iron and Zinc Mine  The zinc is back by the far pumpkin in the quartzite, behind me is a scary scary ravine.  Where the chestnut and pumpkin are is where I dug down too.

Farm!  I apparently don't have a pic of my copper mine but a lovely night time shot of my farm taken from the roof of the blacksmith.

  15. Blacksmith Construction

Basement Floor is made from shale and the walls are dolomite, staircase hickory.  Building will be limestone.

    Posted Image

Ground Floor The Aspen is taking from the beach house and you can see where the forge will be just as soon as I make a charcoal pit.

    Posted Image

2nd Floor  Hey, the forge works now!  Bushes are blueberry, wish I had more than 5.  Yes those are log piles in the windows but glass is a big commitment.  I've moved into the ground floor and completely tore down the Aspen beach house.

Yes that's a stone anvil, no I don't have a copper one but I'll probably jump to iron now that the building is done.

  16. Wanted to have this up much sooner but really wanted to have at least 1 complete building in survival to show and that took longer than I expected.  So started 79.10 early Nov and this is my progress so far. :)  (Due to the pic limit this will take up more than 1 post.)

First Night I hid out on this island decided it be cool to have an island beach house.
    Posted Image

First Shelter It's so tiny, have a few large vessels (You can see my vessel with fresh water) and a firepit in there.
    Posted Image

2nd Shelter At this point I've designed my beach house in creative using the woods available (Hickory/WhiteElm/Chestnut/Aspen/Sequoia) Main building is Aspen with Hickory Planks and Logs.
    Posted Image

Sometime around now I've also designed a blacksmith in creative and I really want to get that going.  I also had the brilliant idea to use my SSP seed and start a new creative world so I can work out a location for barn & pastures for the animals.
    Blacksmith Outline
    Posted Image

Shoreline  I'm standing on the wall of the beach house looking back over the land.  You can see the outline for the blacksmith and the start of barn.

    Posted Image

At this point I'm into my 2nd game year and I really want new trees especially for the blacksmith as I'd love to use Douglas Fir & Birch.  So lots of exploring is had and...

    PIGSPLOSION!

    Posted Image

I find Pine/Ash/Birch/White Cedar and decide I can use the pine in place of the Douglas so back to construction.

Blacksmith You know what would be great for more storage, a basement.  Didn't think of that in my creative world design.

    Posted Image

Also start on a red and white barn, you can see the island/beach house in the background at this point I've completely stop construction on it.

    Barn

    Posted Image

A lot of in game time has passed we're in the 3rd year I've gone exploring again and...

DOUGLAS FIR! (That pig is so dead, got to close to the wild wolves.)

    Posted Image

Somewhere I also decided I want to build the beach house out of White Elm and Willow so start on a design in creative.  Which means I need to remove the Aspen house I had been working on but I'll need somewhere to move. Time to stop slacking and get that blacksmith done.

  17. Keep in mind this conversation is very suggestive (*Fantasy/Monsters/Undead) which means no one is right, no one is wrong.

    "1st Paragraph"

Maybe, it would depending on what is causing it to be animated in the first place.  Lets say an unknown magic, so now how much of the animation relies on the bones and their structure?  If none, then the skeleton is not going to care and you would have to do 'x' overall damage to take it down.  If it's bone structure does partially support the animation then what parts?  You say spine but I think this 'pretty bad' damage would be mostly done to the spinal cord (flesh) which a skeleton does not have so not necessarily a crippling injury.  I do agree that if the bone structure is some how supporting the animation taking out a knee/leg would seriously slow it down and maybe out right stop it.

However within TFC I'm not sure targeted damage like that is possible and it is all very RNG. (Head/Torso/Legs/Feet) which I am fine with, it's more than what vanilla does with combat.

(("and I'm pretty sure a high-velocity stone will be able to shatter a skull."  I don't want to get to real but I don't think high velocity guarantees the bone will shatter in a big way or cause major damage to other nearby bones.))

    "2nd Paragraph"

Eh' my buddy shouldn't be out there without a mace and if he is he can suffer Bwuhahahahahaha!

But for the sake of conversation, hitting a skeleton at range unless you are an expert marksman sounds very difficult.  The very nature of the skeletal structure allows for many holes and small narrow targets.  Also because of the rules of the game we also know this is happening at night so terrible light levels makes it even worse.  If my buddy is out at the forest line he better know how to dodge arrows.  If my buddy is nearing the gate I'll hold off any zombies and spiders (Mostly spiders cause holy crap) and he better still know how to dodge arrows.

Besides, going by that logic, would a zombie care about a hole in it's stomach(or anywhere else), ripped-out limbs, giant, gaping sword wounds, broken bones, being set on fire or really, any injury other then a crushed skull and smashed brain? No, probably not, it's undead.

I always hit zombies in the head, cause zombies.  This conversation is specific to range attacks verses skeletons so not going to venture outside of that but if you want apply the first part of my conversation to zombies, change bone to body and BAM! We also already know what part for critical damage. Brainzzzzzz

  18. I'm on the side against this, it doesn't make sense to me.  I won't deny the fact that if you manage to shoot (bow/crossbow/sling etc) and hit a skeleton (within a fantasy world) that it may cause damage.  But how much damage?  At most there will be a hole in the bone with some radiating cracks maybe a fracture and at the least a small nick or chip.  Is the skeleton going to care about a hole or some nicks?  I'd think no, it's undead.

To me it seems like it would require a lot more effort to kill a skeleton at range (ammo needed to cause enough damage) then to run up to it and crush it into tiny bit with a few strikes from a heavy metal mace.  Which is exactly what TFC currently does.

  19. Back in my day we didn't even have straw! Had to go up hill (both ways of course) barefoot in the snow to get food.

Anyway....I just went back to doing what I did before for my first few nights, 1 layer of dirt and log piles on top for walls.  To deal with spiders I'd place one row of logs down the middle as a roof.  Simple and easy enough to take down until I found a place to settle.  Though as Kitty suggested digging under a boulder or into clay makes for a great first shelter.
