      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. I kinda get the feeling that a lot of people are ok with the torch changes because the jack-o-lanterns exist. Based on player actions we really need a real permanent light source. Base aesthetics are at an all time low. Extrafirma save us!. Carpenters torches are cool too but people are less willing to use the mod.

  2. TFC is indeed balanced towards multiplayer, and not singleplayer. That is why there is so much exploration involved in finding all of the materials, and why you get the materials in such great quantities once you find them. A single very large copper vein is enough to last a lifetime in a singleplayer world, but on a server it is used up much more quickly between multiple players, which is the intended behavior.

It may be optimized towards multiplayer but despite what people may think, single player is actually easier in many ways. Time not passing when you're not online is actually a huge advantage in most cases. Especially when food decay is involved.

  3. I think before we start talking about gravel being support we need to start with cobble. The purpose of support beams is to stop the stone above from turning into cobble and falling. If a cave in happened above a support the cobble would will and take out the support. It's kind of annoying how narrow the supports are actually, especially considering how common and large cave ins are now

  4.

Thanks for listening to the community. :) Among others, these are my favourites of b79.8:

    • Reduced Hardness of all Smooth Stone and Stone Brick Blocks
    • You can now drink by right clicking any fresh water. Removed feet drinking.
    • Rewrote Detailed Block Rendering. Performance should be a lot better. Also fixes odd lighting issues that have been around since forever. Should also fix the Detailed block crash that affects some people with too many detailed blocks in a chunk. Big thanks to Fuami for rewriting this!

Thank you so much for this. now can we have cobblestone hardness reduced as well? It makes no sense that cobble is harder than the raw stone.

I am not a fan of the cave in change because I feel that cave ins are already past ridiculous in their current state.

  5. Really? I'm sure I detonated a powder keg with 4 stacks of gunpowder when I was testing....

And I still think that piercing should do at least some damage to skeletons. Being unable to use ranged attacks at a ranged mob is annoying, and sometimes deadly.

Also, if a skeleton is in water, it becomes pretty much unbeatable....

We had this argument in a thread I made a while ago. Despite my arguing that skeletons were basically the only mob you'd even want to spend time using a ranged weapon on, damage was left the way it was

Also unless powder kegs were disabled in a recent version (like 79.6 or later) they do work. I tried it a few times on the server when we were setting it up

    edit: just tested it

  6. So I spoke with Bioxx about this, and we have come up with two options:

    1. We don't change anything. You keep getting 4 bowls from the single pattern, and nothing happens when you try to do the double pattern, and you guys stop complaining.

    2. We change it so that the double pattern gives 2 bowls because you made two bowls on your screen, and the normal pattern only gives you 1 bowl instead of 4, because you're only making 1 bowl on your screen.

    The choice is yours.

I choose option 2 IF the bowls are no longer consumed upon finishing the meal because it makes zero sense

  7. Speaking of bad seeds, a server I'm on has rock salt from -11000 all the way to -6000. I've explored up and down and about 2000 blocks across and I've only seen something other than rock salt twice. And there wasn't much of it. Is this just the seed or are other people seeing worlds with a ridiculous amount of one surface rock.

    (generated in 79.7)

yea for like the largest area i've seen nothing but rock salt chert and claystone which was miserable. i wasn't even able to find tin or copper surface ores indicating a vein at the top of the second layer. thank god i finally found limestone lol

  8. Compared to the previous version breaking blocks like smooth stone is considerably slower. Also with bioxx reducing the hardness of raw stone, I believe he should do the same for cobble and smooth stone. They both take significantly longer to mine than the raw version and that doesn't really make any sense. The defensive material argument is just pure BS. It's not anywhere slow enough to actually deter a player from griefing etc if they choose to. In it's current state it just serves to waste the time of those of us who are building with it.

  9. I would simply like to point out that while it is a small sample size, our poll is currently showing that 17.2% out of those who voted are indeed editing their config files. And out of the users who voted they dislike the mechanic, a whopping 32.6% of them changed their configs.

I'd like to point out that since TFC is designed or multiplayer, most people are playing on servers and a lot of the people who didn't change their configs haven't done so because it's mostly out of their control. I also assume numerous people, including the person who runs the server I play on, are simply waiting until extrafirma updates to get lanterns from that

  10. Ok so i'm playing on a server in 79.7 with cauldron using these mods:

    optifine

    map writer

    carpenters blocks

    zan's minimap

    NEI

    waila

    fastcraft

    minetweaker

and i'm getting the same graphical glitch he's talking about where debris show 2 things coming out of them but you get the normal 1

  11. You can fish in any body of water, you do not have to see an actual fish mob. However, there are numbers behind the scenes that keep track of a per-chunk "fish population" that decreases when fishing, but can increase over time as the fish "reproduce"

Fish actually are not an infinite source of protein. There is a population number that is tied to each chunk that goes down every time you catch a fish. So in theory, it is possible to completely fish out an area, and you will not be able to catch any more fish there.

The last I checked (watching Pakratt's pre-release stream), fish do randomly despawn.

is there a reason for this? i think fishing is slow enough that i don't think a balance reason is necessary and realism definitely doesn't apply here since a single person could never fish up a fish population in our scope of time

  12. 1. in wilderness just block breaking is disabled. all inventorys are open for everyones access. even the block breaking is only disabled so people stay in there own nation for wood and ores.

    2. in towns, if you cant build, you cant interact (exept what i wrote above) this is both for town and private land.

Bruuf there's actually a few areas in towns where people from outside nations can loot chests and that shouldn't happen.

  13. I feel that if torches are going to go out. Vanilla mob spawning of hostiles mobs has to change also. It's just extremely annoying. At the same time I really want permanent light sources for builds. Light is a huge thing when it comes to aesthetics.

  14. After playing with the mechanic I have to say I find it extremely irritating. I don't think it improves the game at all it just interrupts me playing the game either by making me relight torches or by having mobs attack me while I'm trying to do stuff.  I am however playing on a server that is using the default config so I'm living with it for now
