      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Ideas about food preservation.

Now that spoilage and preserving food is an issue, it inspire a bunch of systems to try to manage it including many new methods of food preparation. I already had a few I wanted to share, but this thread has inspired a few more. Many of these could be balanced by reducing the overall quantity of the food, but is still better in the long run that would have been lost due to rot. Fermenting food products is one of the main methods to preserve foods. Using barrels of vinegar has already been mentioned for this process, and I support it. I also believe that this could lead to other uses for some foods such as soy beans, you could potentially make soy beans into a whole lot of food products such as tofu, which could act as a protein equivalent of cheese. Though, I'm not certain of the real world preservation of tofu. Could also make things such as natto. Soy sauce is another option, but I figure that would only be significant if usage of condiments could raise the "tastiness" and saturation of meals. Canning has also been brought up, and I have figured out a rudimentary method of a canning process. Phase 1: Creating Cans Step 1: place metal ingot into anvil (this could also be any metal especially non-tool metals such as tin) Step 2: select "can" plan Step 3: forge can (could result in multiple cans) Phase 2: Storing Food Step 1: put food in can (place both in crafting grid returning canned [food] (unsealed), also stores in units of 10 oz. or so) Step 2: seal can (place can in crafting grid with hammer returning canned [food] (sealed)) Phase 3: Eating from Can Step 1: open can (place canned [food] (sealed) and knife in crafting grid returning canned [food] (opened) and damaging knife) Step 2: eat from can (restores hunger and gives opened can which can either be thrown away or recycled) Phase 4: Recycle Can (optional) Step 1: place opened can in crucible Step 2: collect ingots Jars could also be viable storage mediums and could just be bottles or special glass jars combined with metal lids.
  2. TFC 78.10 doesn't Work with Optifine

I noticed that after updating to 78.10 that immediately after generating the terrain, it crashes the game. After reading the log (in spoilers below), it seems to be a rendering error. I use a short list of mods along with TFC: NEI, Optifine, and Zan's Minimap; and after removing all of them and one-by-one replacing them, I discovered Optifine is causing the crashes. I can play without it, but would prefer this issue dealt with or at least inform others who use Optifine. ---- Minecraft Crash Report ---- // This doesn't make any sense!Time: 4/26/14 12:34 PMDescription: Unexpected errorjava.lang.ClassCastException: CompactArrayList cannot be cast to java.util.Listat TFC.ClientOverrides.loadRenderers(ClientOverrides.java:36)at net.minecraft.client.renderer.RenderGlobal.func_72712_a(RenderGlobal.java:415)at net.minecraft.client.renderer.RenderGlobal.func_72732_a(RenderGlobal.java:308)at net.minecraft.client.Minecraft.func_71353_a(Minecraft.java:2135)at net.minecraft.client.Minecraft.func_71403_a(Minecraft.java:2063)at net.minecraft.client.multiplayer.NetClientHandler.func_72455_a(NetClientHandler.java:351)at net.minecraft.network.packet.Packet1Login.func_73279_a(Packet1Login.java:119)at net.minecraft.network.MemoryConnection.func_74428_b(MemoryConnection.java:89)at net.minecraft.client.Minecraft.func_71407_l(Minecraft.java:1967)at net.minecraft.client.Minecraft.func_71411_J(Minecraft.java:910)at net.minecraft.client.Minecraft.func_99999_d(Minecraft.java:838)at net.minecraft.client.main.Main.main(SourceFile:101)at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method)at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:39)at sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:25)at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:597)at net.minecraft.launchwrapper.Launch.launch(Launch.java:131)at net.minecraft.launchwrapper.Launch.main(Launch.java:27)A detailed walkthrough of the error, its code path and all known details is as follows:----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Head --Stacktrace:at TFC.ClientOverrides.loadRenderers(ClientOverrides.java:36)at net.minecraft.client.renderer.RenderGlobal.func_72712_a(RenderGlobal.java:415)at net.minecraft.client.renderer.RenderGlobal.func_72732_a(RenderGlobal.java:308)at net.minecraft.client.Minecraft.func_71353_a(Minecraft.java:2135)at net.minecraft.client.Minecraft.func_71403_a(Minecraft.java:2063)at net.minecraft.client.multiplayer.NetClientHandler.func_72455_a(NetClientHandler.java:351)at net.minecraft.network.packet.Packet1Login.func_73279_a(Packet1Login.java:119)at net.minecraft.network.MemoryConnection.func_74428_b(MemoryConnection.java:89)-- Affected level --Details:Level name: MpServerAll players: 0 total; []Chunk stats: MultiplayerChunkCache: 0Level seed: 0Level generator: ID 00 - DEFAULT, ver 1. 3. [0.79.15] Rhodance's "HugBox" Server [Closing May 22]

I'm looking for a TFC Multiplayer server. My TeamSpeak profile is ShichiNoBushi.
  4. In-game name: ShichiNoBushiAge: 28Where do you come from: Dallas, TX, USANative Language (must be able to speak english): EnglishRead all server rules?: yesWhere did you hear about our Server(s)?: TFC Forum (this one)
  5. Username: ShichiNoBushiAge: 28Location: Dallas, TX, USAWhy do you like to play TFC? I already like Minecraft but also like mods that add a lot of complexity to the game for me to figure out, including most of the mods Direwolf20 has demonstrated. Why do you want to join? I'm just looking for a server and other players to play with. What will you add to the server? I'm not sure there is much for me to add. I'm at least willing to perform the more menial tasks such as collecting wood and ore. Please consider me anyway. Also, I'm using some other mods such as Zan's Minimap and Optifine. I believe their mostly client-side, though, but please tell me if any of them would be an issue.
  6. Sticks & Stones

As I'm chopping down trees, I usually try to break leaves until I get at least one sapling (for obvious reasons). In the process, I end up with several stacks of sticks I'm not likely to use up. I could just throw them away and let them despawn along with all those worthless gemstones, but then I'd feel guilty or wasting them (and littering). Much like the OP, I would like to see more practical uses for all these sticks and stones. One suggestion I have is crafting four sticks in a crafting square to make a "stick bundle" which could work, to a limited degree, similar to a log, mostly as fuel. In a fire pit, a stick bundle won't burn as hot or last as long as most logs, but it should be enough to heat up a prepared meal rather than wasting a whole log on one. I also like storing rocks in stone piles much like storing logs. Another potential use for stones is in a stone tumbler which could work much like a sluice to generate gems and ores with a really small chance.
  7. T1 container: Straw basket.

I agree with balancing the basket with smaller internal inventory, but a basket could have the advantage of placing it on the ground like ceramic items to allow an easy, pre-metal tools storage. I have had cases where clay was hard to find despite how common it's supposed to be. Probably just bad luck with generation. This has been a road block even for proceeding to working with metal tools and resulted in me just starting a new world which was a lot more generous with clay, by the way. Now I just need to find the elusive chicken.
  8. On the Kiln and Ingots

For me in the world I spawned, finding chickens and their feathers is extremely difficult if not impossible, and to this point I have been unable to to create a scribing table and plans to use in the anvil. I have a decent stockpile of copper ingots, but tried to melt a few down to create tool heads but found out this doesn't work with the ceramic vessel in the pit kiln. I've figured out now that you can melt them into their liquid form if you keep empty molds in the forge, but for a time, I relied on using new ores to replace my tools. But just because I CAN use it doesn't mean it should be my only option. I already knew tetrahedrite and native copper would melt in the vessel and expected copper ingots would too which is a logical assumption that I learned was wrong. At least for the sake of making sense, copper, bronze, and which other appropriate metal ingots should be meltable in a pit kiln. I don't expect this to be too difficult: just add these ingots and their resulting metals to the list of ores that already work (if this is in fact how it works).
  9. Uses for Gems

Disappointing that NPCs aren't planned to be implemented since gems and similar minerals are most often appreciated for their esthetic value. Otherwise, you could use gems to raise the overall value of items you make to be traded for a currency to replace the emeralds in vanilla. If there aren't going to be any actual villagers or similar NPCs, you can possibly design a trading post or trade depot that an invisible trade caravan is implied to come by after some random span of time to take some if not all your wares and replace them with generic currency or other items you might need such as ores or ingots or even food products, possibly requested at the depot ahead of time. The currency could then be taken to other randomly generated "village" or shop structures to also purchase items you might want or need.
  10. Harsher Winter

I expect most of my ideas were already stated by someone in this or any other thread. I take no credit for any unoriginal comments. Implementing heat and cold and how it influences the player would be a major way of making winter and possibly even summer more dangerous. The player could have a heat bar, much like his hunger and thirst bars, that could influence his performance and could range from extremely cold to extremely hot. What the player wears and his environment could influence this bar toward one end or the other. For example, if you walk around in the cold without any protective clothing, such as leather armor or potentially woolen clothing, the player's temperature gets colder, but wearing such clothing in hot weather will raise it. Building or lighting a campfire can help stay warm in the winter, especially if you constructed a shelter around it, but hanging around your forge all day might raise your temperature too much. Other actions and environments could help mitigate heat during the summer such as wading or swimming in pools or resting in the shade. Having your temperature reach either extreme end could end up damaging you as if you were suffering from hunger or apply slowness or other debuffs. The closer you are to the cold end will drain hunger more quickly while the closer it is to the hot end will drain thirst more quickly.
  11. Saltwater oceans and aquifers.

How I expect bodies of saltwater could be implemented could be that it is effectively normal water, but if it's from an ocean (or perhaps new saltwater lake) biome, using a bucket or water jug (if the jug could even be used) will fill it with saltwater instead. Also, swimming in these biomes doesn't recover thirst. That is probably the simplest way to implement it. I like how drying the bucket of saltwater results in acquiring salt. Since rock salt already exists, I suggest crafting it with a hammer, much like with flux stones, could also get you salt. I would like to suggest uses for the salt, but that belongs in another thread.
  12. Patron Spirits

I would also like to see something like this, but also agree that this should either be an optional feature in case players don't want to deal with it, or developed as an add-on. Since TFC for me seems like a step backward to the Stone Age, I'm in favor of anything with some level of mysticism or tribal flavor. Though, I also believe that a feature like this would be very complicated at least the element of determining which actions count as rituals or sins or which structures will be recognized as obelisks, shrines, temples, etc. to these spirits and deities. It seems feasible, yet extremely complex to execute.
  13. Where is the "club"? :P

They could modify the Knife + Log recipe to a sort of whittling or carving mechanic, much like making leather into armor, instead of making bowls by default. Bowls can already still be made with three plank blocks, but through whittling, you could also make bowls with something like an upside-down pickaxe head shape. Through whittling, you could turn a log into a wooden club by either making a (upside-down) shovel shape, mace shape, or at least just removing the sides.
  14. Alternate scribing table recipe

But who knows how far it is to find a jungle or temperate forrest? I've already searched around half a day's worth from my home, and most I've found was mountain and ocean; these biomes seem pretty large. Regardless, I support the reed pen idea. Could balance that out by having to craft the pen from the sugarcane somehow, first.
  15. [Solved] I can't use Chisel

I'm also having a problem with the chisel. I know I have the hammer on my hot-bar, but sometimes the chisel doesn't work. It works smoothing some stone, but not with others. The problem might be that I'm trying to smooth the blocks from underneath, but I've managed to get it to work on some of them. I could just remove the blocks and replace them with smoothed ones, but I don't want to bother if I don't have to. I at least can't tell if this is a bug or a feature. I could understand anyone exploiting this to prevent cave-ins or something like that if this would otherwise work that way.
