      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Suggestion for the owner of TFC Forums!

Not really. I went from newbie to advance member in 4 days so I don't know really if there is anything more to be added here.
  2. Nice touch. Nothing super crazy, just water mellons. And for the record we mean "water mellons" and not "watermelons." because mellons is a cooler spelling and spaces are fun. *This is not trolling. **Very much. ***Shut up.
  3. Enchantment system

A little more mudslinging. I don't like having to "learn" my enchants for the following reason. If I want a creeper-killing enchantment, it's because I need/want to kill a lot of creepers. (cuz i need gunpowder or they're invading or something) However, if I have to kill a lot of creepers to get the enchant, by the time I have the enchant, it will be obsolete because the creepers will all be dead. If I want a bonus ore enchantment, and I have to mine a lot of ore to get it, that defeats the purpose because I will already have a lot of ore so I will not the enchantment (as much). Enchantments shouldn't be super-end game, I agree that clicking a few GUI buttons and becoming a juggernaut is OP, but clicking a few GUI buttons and becoming slightly more efficient seems okay (after all that's what smelting is). Everyone is saying "Make OP enchantments and make them harder to get." Why not keep the enchantments we have and not have to make super complicated.
  4. Minecart idea

-back to offtopic- My best resource for learning java is an older friend of mine (programmer ) That and codingbat.com for practice -back to topic- Railcraft could work if you turned on compatibility recipes.
  5. Early power systems

I agree mechanical wind and water power for tech 1 and steam punk for tech 2. And since bioxx is implementing small mods into minecraft, what's to say 4096 block IDs isn't next. And also you can write an entire comprehensive mod using under ten IDs (redpower)
  6. Go to hell

I mentioned on the wheat thread that instead of clear cut " species" you should be able to breed your own strains. So in order to grow nether wheat, you would have to breed a strain of wheat that didn't need water. The rest(special mutation etc.) is good.
  7. Enchantment system

Ok. I again I am trying to compromise. I'm all for a simple system that goes like this: 1.find gem 2.enchant gen in enchanting table using life force from killed enemies. *at this point the gem already has an enchantment, but you don't know anything about except ruby=fire etc.* 3.Work gem into tool(using wrong tool will simply fail with no punishment) 4. Try it out and hope you got something good There. This was my original idea but apparently it is too simple.
  8. Emphasis on Caving

sorry i tend to write stream-of-consciousness.
  9. Minecart idea

aww i prefer redpower anyway. I'm *working* on a compatibility patch with a friend right now. It should be done in about a year as my schedule looks something like this: learn more java (specifically netcode) figure out how MCP works understand modloader a little better write patch so don't expect anything soon
  10. Go to hell

ok i like that idea. How about sould sand for use in fertilizer EDIT: the following is not a suggestion, it is just for teh lulz orantium-based fertilizer that's a GOOD idea
  11. Wheat Domestication Flow Chart

Then i could, under the right environment, breed superwheat!
  12. Wheat Domestication Flow Chart

How did you do the images? I have an addtional idea: a type of wheat that grew in low light levels, a type of wheat that grew without fertilizer, and without water (rain) Also here is a second idea: instead of having clearcut "species" set it up similarly to IC2 agriculture, only without crossbreeding. You start a set of traits like growing speed, yield, hydration required, fertilization required, light required, seed yield, etc. The wild wheat starts with the default settings: 1, 2, 4, 0, 14, 2(or something) and when they grew new plants "like someone said they spread" the new plants absorb the traits of plants around them, but however there is a chance of mutation. Most likely th mutations would be harmless, like requiring less light, but sometimes they will be bad, like requiring more water, causing it to die, but sometimes it will be beneficial, causing it to become more prevalent. However, in a tilled environment, there would be more chance of mutation. This was, instead of having every piece of wheat store 10 variables, just have everytime a mutation occurs, create a new "strain" and then the wheat would just say what kind of strain it was.
  13. Early power systems

So to go along with the steampunk idea, how about gears + axels that require actual energy to turn, the only difference is that they could be disable using redstone. So to open your door, you would have gears connected and your button/pressureplate would open the gears and let the door open
  14. Early power systems

Oh of course. They defy all physics. They just aren't game breaking. Now if something like (this is an example don't hate me for saying this) IC2 energy ran on redstone. Oh boy that would suck. Also I like to think of it like redpower (the pump in redpower requires electricty to run, however it also requires a redstone signal to turn on and off. that is all) so the problem is not that redstone can turn things on an off, the problem is that things like doors have a free supply of potential energy. So a torch is just a signal propagator (while still defying physics, the energy required is so little that the difference between effectively infinite and actually infinite is a non-issue). Really the problem is with the things on the receiving end.
  15. Enchantment system

im just going to quote myself here from the nether thread if the "power source" thing is too hard and complex, replace with an enchanting table where you spend the points formerly known as experience to enchant. Anyway the grade of the gem would determine how strong, likely hood to get better enchants, and likelyhood to get negative enchantments.
  16. Minecart idea

    does railcraft work with this?
  17. Go to hell

First to the tin propick thing. I was having the same thing. For me, before the bismuth bronze fix (remember bismuth bronze was equal to bismuth) my bismuth bronze propick head had 80% durability, but then the propick only had 40% (half of that) I guess maybe starter tools give half durability. Next: cropcircles/faerie circles/mushrooms is a stupid idea unless they are mandatory in which case they are a different stupid idea. M y suggestion: nix the faerie circles (sorry eternal) I don't really like the whole "learn the enchantment based on what you do" thing. I'm going to stick with what I said before that each gem has a class (fire, power, water, flight, etc. make some up) and each class would contain multiple enchants (i.e. fire would contain fire resistance, fire aspect, sharpness, autosmelting, and charcoalification, but sharpness would be shared by power, and charcoalification would be shared by "tree") get it? So when you do the whole primordial ooze, it changes from a plain flawed emerald into an enchanted flawed emerald (you would know by intuition or by wiki or by maybe it would show that emerald = tree). you would know emerald meant tree. The second step would be to put it near an energy source. Depending on the conditions of the energy source (and a little bit of luck) to get an enchanted flawed emerald *. the * means it has a specific enchant now. Affixing it to tools would tell you what kind of enchant it was. (silk touch can't be put on a chest plate, etc.) But still, a sword could be sharpness or fire aspect or dullness. You'd have to wait and see. So here is the enchant process from start to finish the way I see it. 1. find a gem 2.enter the nether/hell and find a puddle of magic ooze (the first enchanting step) 3. toss the gem in, and let it steep. (Perhaps higher arcane tech could let you transport the ooze to a place where you can manage it better) 4. Retrieve the gem to get a magic gem (i.e. your beryl would still be called "flawless beryl" but the tooltip would say: "speed") 5.Find some sort of power source (fairy circle, primordial ooze (worst cuz you have to have it already but sitll an option), nether ores, maybe if you couldn't find a power source it would still happen over time, just slowly) and leave it there in some sort of container 6. Retrieve the gem again to get an enchanted gem (again it would still say "flawless beryl" but the tooltip would say:"speed*") 7. Affix beryl to pickaxe (oops doesn't work try an axe. Still no try armor.) 8. success. But is it speed or slowness? 9. try it out and see if the "power source" thing is too hard and complex, replace with an enchanting table where you spend the points formerly known as experience to enchant. Anyway the grade of the gem would determine how strong, likely hood to get better enchants, and likelyhood to get negative enchantments.
  18. Enchantment system

i agree. However, i think instead of having an enchantment called "fire" that did different things, i think that once it is enchanted in the enchanting table, it gets a specific enchantment(charcoalification, fire aspect, autosmelt, fire resistance, etc.) but you wouldn't know what if was. It would SAY "fire" but really it would be one of those. Then you would try to put in a tool and you would have to figure it out. So i would first try it in an axe. No luck, then i try a pickaxe. Success. This means that it was autosmelting, because that is the only "fire"-type enchant that works on pickaxes. Plus, this way, with different enchants instead of a universal one, there is the possibility of negative enchants (evil face }:->)
  19. Go to hell

I agree. I remember there was a suggestion about player mood a while back, that was ridiculed because it ruined the immersive feel of minecraft. I don't want to be controlling Steve, i want to BE Steve. I agree that experience doesn't really make sense. However, I think some kind of mana/magic used for enchanting(which is what experience is for anyway) could make sense-ish.
  20. Biome based everything

I like the idea. That first paragraph touched me too. (where are you world of goo? come back to me!) anyway though, while this seems like a great idea, I think that we have to come to a consensus on butchery before we can go crazy with animals
  21. Emphasis on Caving

umm i have steel. I have enough tin an bismuth to last a lifetime. Also, i didn't mention granite I said GABBRO. Because i need NICKEL. I have a chest full of steel! I need to find GARNIERITE! And since so far all of the surface gabbro i have found is only about 4 layers deep, i was asking for a suggestion. Read my whole post next time.
  22. Early power systems

Sorry. In my opinion the reason BTW failed was because the coder had some very strange ideas about how code should work. There is nothing wrong with a mechanically powered system, the fact that i used BTW as an example was simply because I didn't want to be grasping at straws. EDIT:In terms of redstone, while i agree that it totally defies thermodynamics, don't think of it as electricity, think of it as more of a "signal" while it still doesn't make any sense, it is no longer overpowered. See what i did there?
  23. Go to hell

How about the gems needed for highish level enchants are only found in the nether. Also I think the nether should have an open sky instead of a roof. ( I am thinking the nether less like hell and more like a fiery wasteland. Plus of course, balrogs. I probably said that already but I don't care. I'll say it again. Balrogs. And again. Balrogs. There. Get the BALROGS drift BAAAALROOOGSSSSS!!!!!!! EDIT: lol
  24. Emphasis on Caving

yea especially cuz of the raised worlds, i feel like finding my first ore is really difficult. Also is there a good way to find garnierite besides checking surface gabbro or going down random caves and hoping or checking chunk errors? I know off topic but it's related
  25. Enchantment system

i wanted that originally but that was rejected by a certain extremely vocal member (cough cough eternal cough cough) not that i care, but i figure that if someone cared so strongly about it then maybe there should be a good compromise
