      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Compost

What if we had nutrient specific fertilizers, which, unlike the existing sylvite ore fertilizer, only increased 1 of the 3 nutrient levels. Like, you could leave a raw fish in the soil, or bone meal, or charcoal.
  2. Fishing with spear or net

Maybe, this could fix the current fishing. ATM, fishing is a little odd because you can kill fish with a mace. Maybe, if fish could only be hurt by spears (like, they dodge anything else or something) then there would actually be an incentive to make them!
  3. 79 changed barrels so they can also be used as portable chests that have 12 slots. If you seal the barrel, then you can transport it. However, if you pick one up into your inventory, it's too heavy so you can't move unless you put in on your back (so you can't wear a quiver). Anvils also do this.It also added a Large Ceramic Vessel which is basically just a mini barrel.
  4. Tracking Skill

One thing that has always bugged me is that, with the possible exception of deer, the whole "animals run from you when you attack them" is really lame. You can still catch them. It would be cool if you had to have a lot of people to hunt them, or hunt from range, or even run them from off a cliff :PAlthough, with the current food dropping mechanic, cliffing wouldn't get you any food. This would necessitate a butchering mechanic where you get to take meat off of a carcass, instead of a meatsplosion.
  5. What do you do with excess food ?

Since no one answered the original question: Try using pickling/smoking/drying, not for preservation, but for flavoring. Max out your cooking skill and try to find the perfect salad/sandwich for your player.
  6. Have you ever found Graphite in Gneiss?

Meh, graphite is kind of a pain to find. If you don't want to spawn it in/change the spawning parameters, you can do the searching in creative mode. That way you still have to search the area, but it's faster. As long as you restrict yourself from any other cheating, that's probably a good compromise.
  7. Help with map generation?

You'd have to write a separate mod for that.
  8. A Hard Lesson to Learn

The best death I has: I was mining and apparently I came just over the top of a ravine, and I don't know what was above me, but I caused a cave in into the ravine, and I ended up on top of a 40 block 1x1 cobblestone pillar. I was digging my way down when my pickaxe broke. My only choice was to break the pillar by hand. And as I was doing so, skeleton.Needless to say, that stuff was a pain to get back.
  9. let's talk mobs!

A lot of speculation has been made over the past few years (wow!) about where mobs are going in TFC. There isn't a lot that has been confirmed though. I say, we should just be patient and see what the devs roll out.
  10. Reason to go digging and spelunking?

Ehhh, for rare ores like graphite/garnierite/native silver, even finding the right rocks can be a challenge. In my world I found graphite in schist, which was in a cave. Especially ores that spawn in metamorphic/igneous rock, the lower you go, the more likely you are to find the right rock, and thus, the ore. Yes, I do think caves are a bit OP, but they aren't worthless, per se.
  11. Metal`s

We are not allowed to discuss the actual numbers. So we can't say "this tool has exactly this many uses." But we can give approximations, so iron is better than bronze, steel is better than iron, etc. In addition, for tools made on an anvil (iron and higher must be made this way), the durability of the tool depends on the tool smithing skill of the person that created it. A higher skill will mean more durability.
  12. Extinguished forge

Also on the subject of forges and precipitation, crucibles don't stop it either. It's probably easiest to just use a chimney that goes one block over to stop the rain.
  13. Thank you

I really like the large ceramic vessels. I tend to play nomadically until the bronze age/iron age and being able to carry an additional 9 slots/person or more water is SUPER helpful.
  14. A Good Feeling

Yea, I've always thought this as well. Especially recently, as Minecraft vanilla has been focusing more on adventure and less on survival. Back in the early days (of both TFC and MC) the distinction wasn't as pronounced, but nowadays, they're basically separate games.
  15. I know ores used to only spawn between y=5 and y=128. Is this still true?
  16. Server will run TFC and TFC only (no smart moving, simply horses etc. etc.) Server will be whitelisted. Server will be Communist Co-op (share resources, living space, etc.) Server will have 100% uptime (ideally, unless my cpu breaks/power outage). *Server will be on dynamic IP, so IPmay change* I am looking for people who want to do Communist Co-Op with me, possible nomad challenge. I play mostly on weekends, but will be around some afternoons. I'll be pretty busy once the school year starts. If anyone is interested, post in the thread. If enough people do it, PM me for the server IP once I set it up. I'm looking for 3-5 people. Too many and the resource drain on the co-op is too high. [EDIT 9/1/14]: Server has been up pretty much continuously, with one minor outage when my CPU shut down. There are a couple regulars on the server so far. If you want to get on the server, PM me with your IGN so I can whitelist you. Even though I already have about 6 people. anyone is free to come on so long as they don't log off with important items in their inventory/actively destroy property/etc. BTW, it took me 2 years to figure out, but I got the crop on my profile image correctly. [EDIT 9/7/14]: Power has returned, server is back up.
  17. Stupid Chickens...

Chickens are a fantastic source of food. Once you set up 6 or so nest boxes and leave them for a while, you will have a ridiculous number of chickens, as well as as many eggs as you want, which almost never decay. It took me a while to realize this, but you don't have to be in the equator to find them : I found same at z = -6000 the other day - it was, as kitty describes, a plains-y biome that was hot and wet.
  18. Nifty tricks

Let's see, you can carve 2 knives from one piece of stone. You can break logs with a hammer to get sticks if you are short on them. You can gather straw with a scythe. Hammers are a good weapon for fighting skeletons early game. A clever way to dig core samples without wasting lots of ladders is to dig near water. Start a 2x1 hole, but make sure one of the blocks is always deeper than the other one. Then you can drain ocean/pond/lake into that side of the hole. If you need to get out or you get stuck in a cave, just swim up the waterfall. If you plan on moving, don't make an anvil, leave it as double ingots so you can transport them without using your back slot. Don't use ropes, they don't hold animals well, use grain to move them instead. (or use both i guess). You can drink (slowly) without a jug by rightclicking (shiftrightclicking?) on fresh water. Don't fight with knives, they don't hit very hard, use axes or hammers.
  19. Smoke racks

it removes the "smoked" attribute. I guess the point is to smoke it to preserve it, and then cook it when you want to eat it. Although presumably it tastes different too.
  20. Smoke racks

You can't eat it after you smoke it? Are you supposed to cook it afterward?
  21. Smoke racks

Do you have to cook after you smoke it? because you can't eat it.
  22. Rain not getting about 1000

I've explored about 8000 blocks in the z direction (from 10k to 2k) and have been going for a while in the z direciton. The rain isn't high enough to spawn jungles so its just making endless acacia forest. Am I looking in the wrong spot? I can't find any jungles.
  23. Rain not getting about 1000

I've found several 1000 rain areas, but you need 1500 to get chickens.
  24. Rain not getting about 1000

Im just loooking for chickens. No rainfall above 1500.
