ATTENTION Forum Database Breach 03/04/2019
There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again. -

Why still argue about his original post? Balthizarlucien is clearly not pissed off anymore We can still discuss the merits and downsides of borrowing ideas into a new project, though. One can ask what the motivation is for a different implementation of a game. I think usually the motivation is purely from the developer him/herself, not specifically targeted for an audience. However, as a community grows around the idea, the audience becomes more important. Anyway, because TFC was the first total conversion mod for minecraft with survival focus, metallurgy and geology, to me it can't be beat. I look for originality in mods/modpacks which is what Vintagecraft mostly lacks at the moment. That's just my opinion.

Pardon me for my lack of understanding but didn't MC 1.8 bring about these "3d" resourcepacks? So it would seem easy to render all objects in 3d but you cannot "manipulate" them?

Their wiki says "Vanilla Minecraft is slowly loosing the challenging aspects of survival and resource gathering and while TerraFirmaCraft is a fantastic alternative with it's strong focus on survival, the direction it's authors are taking diverge strongly from what we believe minecraft should be." TFC is too hardcore for "them" Regardless, I also agree some aspects and mechanics are taken from TFC but somewhat differently implemented. Vintagecraft also has a lot less features than TFC so i doubt i will play it. The one aspect that seems nice is world generation and compatibility with MC 1.8.

Maybe you would enjoy Battlelore and Rhapsody of Fire. I think it's almost impossible to keep playing tons of heavy metal after marriage but if some of you manage it, let me know your secret

I used to listen to heavy/death metal a lot (e.g. Arch Enemy and Amon Amarth) but in the last few years i've mellowed somewhat. Indeed, Rush is amazing. So is Iron Maiden and Blind Guardian.

How big are these islands we are talking about? Some 5000 blocks in diameter, or more? I hope the islands will feature different biomes and that they will not look all alike. Hopefully the (north/south) pole to equator system is preserved.

YES! Ive been waiting for this announcement of fast travel 'teleportation'. It will definitely make me start playing again. The sheer distances required to find something and then having to travel back long ways was always off-putting in my mind. I used the Enhanced Portals mod for a while but it wasn't entirely compatible (had to cheat in required blocks using creative mode).

Yeah maybe I should look another tree that is less "bushy" to get easy lumber. As long as the one-chop-to-rule-them-all still works

Tree farms got nerfed some versions ago. I used to plant Douglas Firs in long rows without gaps. A single chop would take down a whole row Now the first tree that spawns will block with its leaves the path to the sky for the adjacent trees. So no more easy tree farming. This is how it should be of course, but feels less pleasant because now there is no way to optimize logging. Or is there... ;-)

Every new layer that can be added will be added over longer and longer timescales (i.e. the dice roll less and less in favour of a new layer being added). A full block is indeed the maximum amount. This is perfect for me. I'm very happy the problem of no snow accumulation was fixed several versions ago.

Derp. I wanted to suggest players not being able to make salads anywhere they like, but of course you can bring the whole kitchen with you.

MC 1.9 will be the combat update. I expect TFC2 will also benefit from combat changes in the far future.

Interesting... but right now the crafting is done on the move using the player grid, which i like. I also prefer real-world interaction to make stuff if possible (like the leather working).

Chances are high there is always some left-over bloom <100 (where 100 = 1 ingot). I simply recycle the left-overs. One time i got bloom enough for 9 ingots, which would be impossible with just ores.

Design looks good but it's only 1/3 of a large house so far You must have a lot of resources.

Except, i only use the bow as a sniper rifle against hordes of zombies... and I charge deer with a sword like a maniac. In real life the deer would far outpace me but in TFC they are so glitchy you can easily tap them. Perhaps I'm just playing the game differently than you
