      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Wow! What a wonderful effort Dries! I hope Bioxx gives you full permission to port TFC to a newer version of MC. Maybe you have a lot of free time now to do this or some other reason. I think it's only fair when the main developer(s) cannot commit to the project anymore due to life and such, they pass on the baton. Good luck!

  2. My point was, to be honest, TFC 2 does not have to run on MC 1.13+ per se. I'd love the hear from Bioxx or any other dev that they are specifically waiting for new capabilities in the latest MC, ones that should be critical to the development of TFC 2.

  3. But it's always like that. Waiting for the next thing to happen to make x faster or better. This should not be the main obstacle. When MC 1.8 was announced it was going to break many mods and modpacks. I think most devs have overcome those changes by now (but even still 1.6 and 1.7 modpacks remain popular to date). TFC or TFC 2 had the chance to be something new, but nothing happened. Finally, some pre-alpha version of TFC 2 was released. But really I still don't see what it's supposed to be about. There is no roadmap, no objectives, no clear idea of what should make it fun. Now we are approaching 1.13. Then 1.14, etc, and this won't solve TFC 2's problems - or the lack of motivation to continue working on it.

  4. I check every 2 weeks or so. Maybe I will leave soon. I'm not expecting anything more. Even if TFC 2 will see new development, I doubt it will be as good as the original TFC. I don't like many of its current features tbh. Adding 'magic' and portals and such is not original because minecraft inherently already has these things. TFC was fun because of advanced smithing, chiseling, and geology, as real as they could get. The food system wasn't really that amazing but OK. The world gen was also quite good compared to other worldgen at the time. The best aspect was generation of tall mountains, and not just ones that look like only cliffs and have floating islands.

I will fondly remember all the good times playing TFC with friends and in single player.

  5. Wow! You can port TFC to MC 1.12? The devs always said how nearly impossible this is, especially the chiseling code. I will definitely play TFC again if you can pull this off.

I really like that idea! I found there is no need to go into caves, especially now that caves are always a den of 20+ monsters.

I also agree with this. Spelunking should be part of any minecraft experience.

  7. Cool. Will there also be mountains to climb? Whilst there are some impressive cliffs, I've not seen mountains generate and the central region of each island is a plateau.

  8. Thanks for fixing the download link Bioxx. So far I only explored in creative mode. I only generated 1 world so far, but the island is certainly "big enough".

I am very impressed with procedural world generation so far. The landscapes don't look nearly as bad in hex chunks as I feared. The trees are amazing and the little rivers flowing from high up to the sea generate well. I had some fun in creative mode with a boat riding down the rapids :) The spires feature is very interesting. Breaking the base causes an entertaining cascade of rubble and gravel blocks. Will there be more "structures" like these? Can't wait to see all those animals modders made, spawning in the world.

Keep up the great work! Please give us an idea what features are already in the game, and which you plan to add later!

  9. I check in every month or so, but if I don't see any activity I will keep doing other things. As long as the forums are online, I'm hopeful tfc2 is being developed. It's a spare-time project so best to keep expectations realistic :D

  10. No fix as far as I am aware. But you can use this add on to improve your experience (tho of course the add on might also cause some strangeness, it is still worthwhile having).

  11. Beyond 30K, the temperature profile stops changing (i.e. decreasing). So no point going beyond 30K. In summer at that latitude, some high mountains do feature permanent snow cover (i.e. temperature is below zero degrees C year round). However, here you won't be able to farm since it's too cold most of the year.

The northern-most farm for me kinda worked at 20K. Here, the highest mountains (250 blocks) also have permanent snow, but only just.

  12. With this perfect sandwich, I have to know, how long can you go on without eating before hunger hits again? Does it really make a worthwhile notable difference to a player not skilled in cooking?

They have tons of money and a multinational corporation support. So they could have some people to make Minecraft a good base game. But instead they throw rarely some new features without any vision on the market. It seems to me as if they just do the minimum to keep people somewhat interested in the game.

I do agree with drk here. The first snapshot for 1.10 really does have some odd random new features in it. Eventually they will be grouped under some theme (like 'combat update'), but that is mostly an afterthought... I suspect the core gameplay (i.e. sequence of achievements) won't be altered. MC 1.9 really pushed what can be changed without angering the core fanbase too much. I don't think we will see such an update again soon. The standard gameplay, to me, is what bores me with 'vanilla' Minecraft since i've been there and done that so many times over. Newcomers should be happy though.

  14. The new polar bears don't look too bad. At least not out of place, keeping simplicity in model design. The two other new mobs have extra layers (tattered clothes) and do stand out.

  15. In the read-only forum for regular members, I enjoy the new mob models currently being made. Almost looks like a full-time job as I suspect it can't be that easy? It took Dunk a good effort to make the bear for TFC1. Whilst I welcome the new animals, I wonder if they are also meant to be hunted/domesticated? The detail on the animals is far more than the standard minecraft animals possess. I encourage the modellers to replace the regular MC animals with higher polygon models.

  16. I think Etho got bummed out that none of the tree farm implementations still work that used to give loads of instant wood... Other reasons are too much grinding in finding the right ores in large quantities. I think his world seed was not as lucky and he had to travel very far away. Finally, he lost his Journeymap markers which meant rediscovering everything.

  17. I'm a little confused about the need to have huge sprawling ore veins in a single rock type on a island at least 2000x2000. First of all, i assume the ores are still restricted to the rock type they belong in. So for copper, some rock types just wont have it and the player must go to another island to find the rock type that has it. Then it is guaranteed to find copper of course. Secondly, some rock types have multiple ores that can generate in them, so will this remain? One rock type - one ore type per island is probably too restrictive. Finally, the player finds a huge ore vein at some island, maybe there are more huge veins..so it will be trivial to find, but then how much ore would the player possibly need to advance? Even in TFC1 for me 1-2 veins of rich ore was enough to progress a tier. I can only imagine more ore will be needed for smelting than ever before, to produce a single piece of armour for example.
