ATTENTION Forum Database Breach 03/04/2019
There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again. -
This forum is now READ ONLY! 01/20/2020
As of this post and forever into the future this forum has been put into READ ONLY MODE. There will be no new posts! A replacement is coming SoonTM . If you wish to stay up-to-date on whats going on or post your content. Please use the Discord or Sub-Reddit until the new forums are running.
Any questions or comments can be directed to Claycorp on either platform.

Just watched the Starforge video, quite possibly one of the most badass things I've seen in a while.
-
Oh if I did it correctly it's just as bad as before, just more specific.
-
Just responding my opinion, it all goes back to the devs regardless. In any case, multistage growths would be beneficial, as it means you don't have to wait for the tree to "pop", you could cut it down at stage 2 or stage 3 growth to get a partial yield, though having it where the tree gains the most growth at later growth stages would mean the reward for waiting for a full scale growth would mean more wood, while cutting it down early would just be quick access to possibly needed resources.

Fixed my previous post, to make it more accurate.

If knockback on the NPC guard was possible, and I was a griefer, I'd strike the npc, lure it to a 3x3x3 hole, and then sparta kick him in once he pathed around it.

Once normal torches become finite, you could always make redstone a component in long or indefinite light sources, sort of like torches being tier 0, lamps and candles tier 1, redstone/magic light being tier awesome. One word, holyshitroflconda.

underground rivers, lakes, and crystal caves (a better view for your underground base)
redundantusage replied to abandoned mines's topic in Suggestions
I like the concept of transitioning levels through the underground, as it gives a sense of progression when you know you can survive well in the lowest levels of the cave networks, especially if new dangers are added such as new flora and fauna. Only thing I could think of in terms of something new is based off the comment of evolution of creepers, plenty of people have talked about creepers being a heavily modified plant creature, why not make some stationary plants that are closely related or even involved in the reproductive process of the creeper, such as the stationary being the "female". If you walk near it or fall on top of it it would explode with a slightly less than normal creeper explosion. If you sneak up to the plant however, perhaps it could be harvested in some way. -
BTW has already used boiling leather with dog crap to make tanned leather, I see no reason why Terrafirmacraft can't do it better, such as the salt and wood/leaf tannin method. For a steady supply of salt rather than having to use rock salt, filling either buckets or bowls with "salt water" by right clicking on a water source while in an ocean or coastal biome, and then making them placeable so they can be left to evaporate would provide a means for salt generation, and an entirely new industry and commodity for SMP servers. Using an axe on a plank of wood could provide wood chips of either that type of wood or a generic one depending on how much effort is desired to implement it. Other things could provide wood chips as well, such as turning a log into planks would leave behind some wood chips as byproduct to it, carving a bowl, even chopping a tree.

I doubt someone with severe and debilitating mental disability will be playing Terrafirmacraft, and thus be reading this forum. This leads me to believe that the only way they'd know about the comment is if someone pointed it out to them while gently patting their shoulder. At that point, who's really to blame for the hurt feelings? The other option would be someone with a mild case of the disorder who would only feel offended if they have a thin skin, in which case they can expect little mercy on the internet.

Unless they add lower level metals as an option to make shears, this effectively means little to no control over tree growth until you have wrought iron. Some games I don't even progress past tin because smithing was not my focus, and forcing game progression in one aspect to further another would cause the game to be more linear, something I know I for one wouldn't want. For realism yes, but it would mean I'd never settle anywhere that isn't a forest, as I rarely make it to a full year of gameplay. Would also mean I'd probably not be able to make awesome wooden structures anymore due to constraint on wood gathering. If it has to be tied to an in game amount of time though, make it a week or month for your average trees, and maybe for a jungle tree or sequoia a year would make sense. Would be nice if amount of wood dropped per tree block was increased to coincide with the increase in growth time. Waiting a week/month/year for a tree that drops four logs will mean I will have to deforest the better part of a forest every week/month/year to be viable.

Holy crap yes.

I believe this to an extent. Either we keep slapping minimal, or we slap hard and often like DF until the definition of "fun" changes like it did for them.

This sounds exciting as heck. This would give communities something to search for, create a niche for specialist blacksmiths, etc.
-
Yes, yes it did.

In short, the compendium would be a folder that you would place drawn plans into. This would then store the plans you've put into it and when right clicked, you would see a listing of the plans currently in the compendium. Right clicking the icon for the desired plan would allow you to retrieve the plan from the compendium, removing it from the compendium item and returning it to your inventory. Let's face it; the plans are each just a rolled up piece of paper and making a binder for them would be sensable for any organized blacksmith to do. Two planks of wood and three pieces of leather would make the item. It's not ground breaking, it's not required for survival, but it makes sense.

I think the cool thing about trees spreading themselves is finding forests that you can see the ways of growth and the originating trees that likely caused it. My original concern was that the trees would grow in a viral fashion and would become hard to contain. It then of course occurred to me that something in real life is actually in a fashion mimicked in game; when there isn't enough space above a sapling it won't sprout into an actual tree. Of course, if the plan is to create a more in depth tree spreading method, it might be a good idea to make saplings something you get artificially by taking a branch cutting with a knife or axe (like fruit trees) and otherwise have trees drop seeds and nuts to actually spread themselves. Some of those nuts would be edible, and you would typically get a whole lot more seeds to plant new trees this way rather than taking cutting for saplings, at the expense of it taking longer for them to grow in game.

I'd going to assume that the largest the wooden peg might end up being is maybe a quarter to half a foot long for heavy duty constructions. I'm also going to assume that since a single stick is used for both the handles of various tools and also for javelins that the length of a single stick is roughly 3-4 feet minimum. Going off this (and not even taking into consideration that those single stick javelins look pretty darn straight) I'd say even from a curved, bent, or crooked stick you could carve at least a good 8-10 pegs using the axe to chop and then edge the pegs accordingly, taking into account potential loss of wood due to warped wood, knots, etc. That all said, the sticks look pretty straight to me. Anyone who thinks it unrealistic that all the sticks are uniformly straight might also consider the cubic nature of the rest of the world.

On earth, I'm not sure the moon rises and sets in exact parallel to the sun. So we're already working with a system that stretches belief, having fairly stabilized star sets for the sake of navigation would seem a small thing in that light.

I prefer to think of you as the bouncer, you're the burly guy wearing the tuxedo shirt that way people know that Bioxx and co are approachable but still mean business.
-
At the end of the day, people that want coordinates badly enough will add rei's minimap to the game, so even if the coordinates are removed from F3, it's all good.
-
I think it would distinguish the mod in a unique way, I think it'd be more challenging to be sure, not sure how much I'd appreciate it though with as much wood that I use in building. If something like this was added however, challenge accepted. Also, welcome to the forums.

I'd say that warrants a new suggestion thread for changing how the astral system works.
-
I like the methodology behind this, and the simplicity. Not sure if something like this will be coming with the butchering (if that's still something planned), but I hope so. As far as the bubbling part though, not sure that would fit. You'd know you're doing it right by the leather successfully tanning. Nothing teaches better than failure.
-
Can't remember what thread I posted it on, possibly the meta tiny tweaks thread, but I suggested random tier 0 tool drops from zombies as a rare drop, obviously already fairly damaged. Bioxx and Dunk probably already have thoughts on hashing this out though.

I find following the sun and moon easier on the open ocean, as there are fewer obstacles to throw you off course, and thus you can keep a straight line better, at that point, you give a straight line direction and travel when the astral bodies are in the view to allow you to keep that line.
