      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. There are a lot of issues that Bioxx and Dunk are working on to fix. I agree that this is a serious issue, but it will be fixed. Also, I believe that log piles are capable of taking 32 logs :)

  2. I don't get how to use multimc. Is there a tutorial of the tubes somewhere, or do i have to stumble around with it?

Also, wow, we're getting some really good applicants!

I know, I think the server will start off quite nicely :)

It's dead easy (I don't know MultiMC, I use MagicLauncher) they tend to be pretty self explanatory and usually have videos explaining their use on their MC forum threads :)

OBTW guys, I will be pre generating the world for quite a radius using this tool: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/187737-minecraft-land-generator/

This should make exploration much, much easier on the server :)

  3. I'm not going to beat about the bush here.

TerraFirmaCraft can't continue to please both SSP players and provide for SMP servers in the direction it is going.

Right now, the world generation is changing drastically. Soon there will be a very large world with a varied biome set determined by the z axis position of the regions. This is massive progress, but is it enough ?

Here is where the interests of SSP and SMP players are totally opposed. In an SMP server, in order for trade to remain sensible and to encourage users to actually spread across the z axis and not just congregate in one area there must be regional variations in vital resources. To rephrase:

There is no point in trading with your neighbour 6,000 blocks to the north for a different type of fruit. On the other hand, if you have iron and zinc but your neighbour has copper, there is a reason for you to trade. Unfortunately, this is game breaking for SSP players.

So, we are left with a conundrum. If ore generation is altered to give notable regional variations in mineral levels, then trade will be viable on SMP, leading to an interesting and diverse server where trade has actual meaning and purpose, as well as establishing regions which are valuable to own (extremely important for faction based pvp servers). Unfortunately, this impacts on other players of the game (namely SSP and servers who are more creative orientated).

The best solution I can think of is to give two generation methods: Default and Realistic. Default would give regular generation and realistic could (as mentioned above) generate ores with high concentrations in certain regions and low concentration in others.

  4. It seems this will spread out the temperature ranges quite a bit. Is this going to create a situation where you have to travel 20k blocks to plant different types of crops/fruit trees? I'd hate to have to spend 3 in game weeks running around just to make an orange-strawberry-banana smoothie. :)

On a side note, I could see this being good for massive servers where northern communities could trade needed crops with southern communities but you would need some sort of faster transport like the trains mod maybe.

I agree with you in that we need a fast and viable public transport method :)

I'm getting a little bit too excited at the concept of trade between regions of the world .. So excited I am going to make a discussion thread about it :P

  5. Exactly! Man, after reading this thread through I've realized how interesting and varied the community on these forums is. I always thought before that cevkiv was just a grumpy ass when he is actually a intelligent grumpy ass xD. So many awesome professions too. It's funny hOw some of them have professions that are in TFC. Infinus5 is a prospecter, Mead is a mason, some one is a black smith, ECT. I guess I'm rambling, I just find it interesting.

Yep, it is a great community we have on here. Ryuugumo is the blacksmith by profession :)

I think I would say that rambling is an important part of this forum :P There are more derailments here than there would be on a railway made entirely of hairpin bends :P

  6. perfect. I'm glad my feedback was appreciated. (this is not sarcasm)

Id like to avoid something like the faction plugin which is extremely limiting in my opinion

    I totally agree :)

I've always hated the factions plugin :P

  7. Use MultiMC - It makes upgrading TFC so much simpler, No need to reset JAR everytime there is an up date + simple mod sorting so if you install something incorrectly ect... you can remove it without having to install everything allover again.

I use magic launcher myself, but the principle is the same :P

Also, good application ! Accepted :)

Bulletz - I liked the application, but you need to go back and read the rules again :)

ECC - I added the new template :)

  8. True true. I actually have had the experience of a legitimate government with 10 people, but with fewer than that I agree (had a communist settlement and a corrupt leader stole all the resources and built a mansion. We sacked it and ran away :P)

But even still there is a complex balance of having resources at your control to help govern and being forced to fit a mold.

But with a set of tools you won't be forced to fit a mould of particular restrictiveness necessarily. I am talking about very non specific tools which allow the users to enforce their preferred styles of government. Look at civcraft. They have given the users just enough tools to make their rules enforceable without restricting the players experience :)

  9. -snip-

I already talked to you about the reason why it is bad practice (I know that this was posted before that though so I amn't going to go on)

Please try not to E-shout :S .. You will only succeed in encouraging people to take a dig at you for it.

  10. Well I gotta say: Thanks for the explanation but, yeah right, that kind of people play minecraft.

From what I know 75% minecraft players are autistic (and as such they are anti-social) and the rest are 12-year old kiddies and casual gamers.

This is my first forum i'm active at.

And no, i'm not some kid just discovering internet.

It's okay mate, we all have to learn somewhere :)

Well, I play minecraft and I amn't autistic. I'm 19, fairly serious about gaming, a powerlifter, I have plenty of friends, an active social life, I'm studying engineering at uni and although I don't have a girlfriend right now, it is through choice and my last girlfriend was a model :P

Yes, you could say I am bullshitting, but I have evidence to back up all of my claims :L

What's more, the things I listed in my last post are actually mostly shallow indicators of success. For example, there are many talented programmers within the MC community, as well as a lot of creativity. Also, having autism doesn't make you inferior. It is a disorder, but I have many friends who suffer from it to degrees. Obviously some of them are worse than others, but most high functioning autistics live normal lives :)

Trying to gauge someones personal life through the internet is like trying to guess at their visual appearance. All you have to go on is snippets of insight and those snippets are rarely enough to truly understand a person :)

  11. I'm pretty sure that everybody wants to be your friend IRL.

Everybody likes pricks like you two.

Your boss gives you promotions and coworkers love you 'cause you're such a joy to be with!

    Sorry for reviving a thread.

I don't know your religious ways.

Now, now .. All they did was remark on your revival of old threads. This is generally regarded as bad practice on any forum (not our secret "religious ways"). There is a good reason for it too. Generally speaking, if a thread dies then interest in it has faded away. Bumping dead threads is bad practice as it brings back topics many people feel have been discussed to death.

Also, don't make presumptions about peoples personal lives, they commented on your forum habits. If you want to critique either JAG or Eternal, say something about their presence on the forum, not meaningless comments about a private life you have no contact with. For all you know, either one of them could be posting from their bed surrounded by their harem of lusty (non argonian) maids, admiring their "Nicest guy in town" awards and contemplating how to innovate in their business which donates water to African children and funds itself by selling lemonade ... Basically what I am saying is that you have no idea who is on the other side of the screen, so don't talk shit about them :)

  12. 'ECC, have you ever played table top gaming before? Your backstories are amazing!'

whats table top gaming? No really. I honestly dont know. Should I know this? WHY DONT I KNOW D: :(

Games like "Dungeons and Dragons" (that being the most prominent example). They'd suit you well I think. They rely on the players capacity for imagination and innovation. A proper game with a good playerbase has an almost infinite capacity for new ideas and storylines :)

Anyhow, might redo Sam's info. Hopefully, you all will catch something I am Implying between the two char builds. And no, its not the obvious lovers deal. Its subtle.

Jed, I did update the template a couple of pages ago. I specified the info needed and added a new catagory. Might update it again later today after some rem ;) I want to keep things organized and the lack of family names was getting on my nerves. also the addition of professions catagory kinda helps the background along.

Oooooh .. I do like subtle :D I will go back and read both of them and see if I can put it together :)

The new template escaped my noticed .. I will go and put it in the OP :)

Also, I think I have found a mod which will allow us to hide users names until they are 8 blocks away :D

  13. Ockhams razor cuts most of your arguments to shreds. (1000 internetz to the person who gets that reference).

Nice reference :P I also agree with the sentiment of your post. I proposed a very complicated system, but realized that a tool set would actually suit me better, as well as everyone else :)

  14. -_- that's what I thought. I'm having no end of trouble trying to mod my jar file. I think the main problem is I can't get Forge to download from the site the link directs me to. The ad fly download isn't going through. So if anyone can send me a good jar file for b48, I'll really appreciate it and give you several Internet cookies ( almost as good as real cookies, but, sadly, not real :'( ) :P

And also, I'm heading home for the weekend. I don't know when I'll be availinle for the "founding", but when I am, it will be late evening for me. I'll try and pop on to help out :(

Don't worry about the late night thing mate :) Nobody expects you to be available all the time :L

I might be able to get you a modded .jar somehow ¬.¬ Just to clarify, I am absolutely not distributing a .jar file. Absolutely not.

  15. thats why even on "singleplayer" i now use a server running on my pc, just because then i can have it running when i go and eat or sth...otherwise my seasons will never change:/

Nice solution man ! Way to think outside the box :)

  16. Do those voting for 50k realize that according to this diagram, you are also walking 20k just to get to one forest? 10k just to get out of the desert? Do you really want to spend 2 hours IRL of walking just to start the game? I'm a little wary of this diagram in the game's current state.

Why would you need to walk a whole 1/5th of the world to get out of a desert ? Look at our planet. It's not like the equator is one big band of desert. There would be biomes distributed around the range of environmental possibilities at the different latitudes, so you aren't looking at one giant 10k wide desert, but many diverse biomes like rainforest, desert, tropical areas and savanna and that is just at the equator.

As I've stated earlier, the farthest I've ever walked is 6k.

Only because that was as far as you needed to walk. If you spawn in a desert with 50k to poles, you have two choices: Walk further or regen your world. Right now, you can experience most of the worlds variety in a day :P

I don't have the patience let alone the survivability at tier 0 to get to a favored biome. I don't mind walking around when the biomes are random, but if takes me 2 hours to get out the desert and I'm looking at another guaranteed 2 hours just to get to the trees, I just don't see where I'd actually be playing the game.

That's not going to happen though. The biomes will be (much) bigger but the odds of spawning in a desert are actually really low when you think about it. Combine this with the fact that you could spawn anywhere in the biome (including very close to the edge) and it looks a lot less grim than "Spawns in middle of desert every time, can't play game". If that does happen, you're seriously unlucky :P

  17. Acartran - Accepted ! :) Nice backstory man :)

ECC - Needs a bit more work ...... Nah I'm just kidding man :P Accepted :)

Arthur - Yes, we will be running b48 for the whitelist fortnight before we commit to a map proper. It might not be a fortnight if we get decent numbers :)

I installed open office to help me fix the punctuation and spelling problems (also sorry if i used too many , in it)

i hope it somewhat better on the eyes now

Accepted :) (Is English your first language ? If not, I apologize for making you fix the punctuation :P)

  18. Why does this seem backwards to me? Metal armor was curved to absorb blows from both blunt and slashing weapons (Lots of force but over a wide area) but it was weak to piercing (lots of force but focused area of effect).. Also, your metal pot is about 2-3 times thicker than plate armor.

Yes, but the mace is a better option for penetrating plate armour than the sword is. Seeing as we have a choice between the two right now I would pick the mace to defeat any plate the user may be wearing. Managing to pierce plate with a sword is something of an achievement in a combat situation as you really have to get a solid two handed lunging thrust.

If we're talking about piercing weapons which are better against armour than blunt weapons you're looking at war picks, bec-de-corbin, couched lances and arrows/crossbow bolts at closer ranges if the armour isn't awesome.

Basically, Dunk has made the most appropriate system considering what is available. Not all types of piercing damage are as effective against armour. Spears have a tendency to glance off as they don't have the weight behind them to push through. Blunt weapons are consistently effective against plate because they don't need to penetrate the armour to do damage, so even if your helmet doesn't break it will still bend and (if not kill you) make your life something of a misery :P
