      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. 46c Experimentation: Ores

So I've done a fair bit of exploring in Creative with two different worlds. I fly around to different biomes, then dig holes down to bedrock, testing with a propick as I go. We're talking dozens of holes on both worlds. I've found quite a lot of sphalerite on both, sometimes detectable from the surface. Also a fair bit of saltpeter. And, twice, galena. And nothing else. At all. Now, I don't know anything about the intended relative distribution of ore. Maybe (say) hematite is supposed to be rare enough compared to sphalerite that I shouldn't expect to have seen any so far. But I would have expected to have found at least a little bit of cassiterite, since making it more accessible was stated as an explicit goal. It would seem that ore distribution is indeed bugged, unless I've just gotten really unlucky on both worlds. I mean, in my first world (45), I found native copper and hematite in my first mine! (I considered the possibility that the propick was bugged to only detect certain things, but I tested - it's not.)
  2. Has anyone been able to make seeds?

Can you still get seeds from tall grass?
  3. Nutrition: picking up where meals left off

It occurs to me that there's already three different kinds of nutrients that crops need, and each crop needs only one. There's three food groups right there. Make meat a fourth, and fruit a fifth. (Or distribute some of the fruits among the others.) Only problem is, fruit trees are quite rare lately. I've yet to see one in my current world. (And yes, I'm in an appropriate latitude.)
  4. More early game uses for straw

If it doesn't change my spawn, it's of very little use to me. With the sheer distance we have to travel in the early game, there *needs* to be a way to change spawn. Sleeping through the night is gravy. Now, I suppose there's no reason that spawn-changing has to be tied to a bed. Perhaps you craft a 'Home Sweet Home' mat or whatever. But my preference would be a straw bed that changes spawn, but debuffs you in some way when you sleep. Maybe you lose hunger and thirst from tossing and turning all night.
  5. Help finding graphite

Totally! I use 2x1 shafts and ladders myself. You do have to be a little careful not to fall to your death, though - it's happened to me a couple times.
  6. [TFC 0.78.9] ExtraFirma Addon v1.0.4

Rather than the quern, perhaps the flower dyes could be ground with the mortar and pestle? It would give it some variety of use.
  7. Wood Working/Carpentry Table

My understanding is that the scribing table is going to be phased out, though I don't know what will take its place. That said, this is an appealing idea. Metal nails might make for more efficient recipes than wooden pegs, too.
  8. Avoiding The Grind

There's this difference, though... I find branch mining at the diamond level in vanilla to be quite relaxing and non-grindy. There's just the right mix of repetition broken up with discovery. Digging kilometers of tunnel in the hope of finding something just doesn't have the same effect. I heartily endorse the idea of surface-level prospecting, visible stone layers, and so forth.
  9. [TFC 0.78.9] ExtraFirma Addon v1.0.4

So the two colored blocks that the candles were on were jet and olivine? Is that a blast furnace in the pic, or something else?
  10. strange tree

Thank you. Huh. I've been living at -9000 or so for a while in a forested area, but I'm yet to see a fruit tree. They used to be downright ubiquitous.
  11. [TFC 0.78.9] ExtraFirma Addon v1.0.4

Maybe wool cloth should be dyed using a barrel? Anyway, this looks really great! Dunno if you're planning to make more decorative blocks, but malachite would be gorgeous.
  12. Wiki Edits/Suggestions

I see the individual ore and mineral pages have been removed... I got good use out of them, personally. The big chart is a little hard to read. Also, it used to be indicated whether a given ore occurred in veins or clusters. Though I suppose this may change in 78?
  13. Casted Tools and Sharpening

Not just in antiquity, either. To this day we heat up steel and rapidly quench it to produce stronger microstructures. The greater strength does come with greater brittleness, it's true, but it's generally well worth the tradeoff. (Plus there's tricks to get around that, too.) I'm not positive this works in things other than steel, though. It has to do with the detailed microstructures of iron-carbon alloys - which is a huge subject in itself. Also, I don't think it would be plausible to do this to *repair* a steel item. You'd do it when it was first made, to give it extra durability.
  14. Early metallurgy problems and potential solution

I don't think one should be able to cast swords at all, so that would solve that problem. Maces make a little more sense to be cast, though. Basically, if you want weapons and armor, make an anvil.
  15. Build 77

I've actually managed to put things back in, weirdly enough. You have to be very careful to click the correct corner it came from. But yes, there are many oddities around right-clicking around a kiln. The most annoying is that ordinary; right-click behavior is not suppressed; so when you place a clay or ceramic object, and you have rocks or clay in your hand, the knapping/molding interface opens up.
  16. Newbie help!

Yep! You are. Clay molds are no longer crafted using a crafting table. They are molded from the clay interface, then fired in a pit kiln. Also, you don't need a metal hoe to farm, though they certainly bring a great deal of convenience. A stone hoe will do to cultivate land.
  17. 0.77.11 bug and translation mistake

Is this thread still in use?
  18. Casted Tools and Sharpening

It does strike me as odd that you can trivially get a perfect tool by casting, when doing the same thing by forging is more problematic. Really, cast tools should be weaker than forged. There should be an incentive to make an anvil other than to make sheets.
  19. brilliant ideas of a madman

Did this guy really think all the profanities would encourage people to listen to him?Obvious troll is obvious, he's not worth replying to.
  20. strange tree

Out of curiosity, what was the z coordinate? I've yet to see any fruit trees in any version of 0.77, but I haven't gotten very far south yet.
  21. 0.77.11 bug and translation mistake

Bug Report 0.77.10 Suggested Title: Mold-Filling Arrow Suggested Category: Minor Description: When using an unshaped metal to fill a casting mold, the "completion arrow" doesn't move. The mold is still filled on schedule, so this is minor. I deleted configs, etc.
  22. Website Error on Smartphones/Mobile

I can reach the wiki on my Droid, but not the TFC website or forums. Been meaning to create a topic about this, you beat me to it.
  23. How hard is it to find copper?

There is no alloy that has those three things. Regular bronze takes just copper and tin, while bismuth bronze takes copper, bismuth, and zinc. Cassiterite is a tin ore, not a zinc ore.
  24. 0.77.11 bug and translation mistake

I don't feel strongly about straw placement, though it would give you a way to have traditional rush-strewn floors. And haystacks, though I suppose you could use thatch for that. Charcoal placement can actually be pretty annoying. Many times I have accidentally placed it by right-clicking.
  25. 0.77.11 bug and translation mistake

The bismuth bronze is working now in 0.77.7, thank goodness. Bug Report 0.77.7 Suggested Name: Right-Click Ceramic Issues Suggested Category: Minor Description: There are some oddities about right-clicking to pick up clay and ceramic items. Ordinary right-click behavior is not suppressed; meaning that if you have rocks highlighted on your hotbar, the knapping interface will open. Likewise, if you have clay in your hand, the pottery one. Most annoying of all, if you have a log in your hand it gets placed. Furthermore, when placing straw in a kiln, if you accidentally right-click an extra time, clay items underneath the straw sometimes jump into your hand. I deleted config files, etc. Out of curiosity, why is straw only placeable in a kiln? Why not have it be a partially-placeable block, much like charcoal?
