      Server Move   09/13/2018

      I (Dries007) have recently taken over as main developer and server admin. This involved moving servers to reduce cost. It's likely there will be some more downtime in the future but most  things should be sorted by now. This forum is in dire need of replacement as the software is quite old and can't be easily updated. If you wish to discuss or stay updated, join our discord: The forum will remain available to read, but will be locked in the future, when a new system is setup.       ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

      There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
      If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
      I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord ( is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. I like it. I love the idea of the discovery aspect to every new game you start. The food system was great for that, this would be very interesting. I think the idea of the "properties of item / material being dependent on the world seed" is a really cool concept in general and would like to see it applied to more areas of the game, possibly even metals. (name all of them fantasy names (or even generate their names) and then make which make which alloy together with what other metal dependent on the seed etc.) I think the sense of discovery would profit a great deal from that. One thing that could be an issue though is that at some point it may devolve into a repetitive "gotta try through all these x metals / ingedrients in a mind-numbing process which will take me y hours to discover all their propreties and be able to start using them properly"

    As of 79.12 it is possible to transport as many barrels full of items as there are slots in the chests of the donkey. Which adds up to around 12 or so. Haven't tried in 79.13 yet. Kitty knows about the bug. IIRC it was something dunk needs to fix? It was mentioned in IRC at one point.

    I'm confused. As of the current verison, Donkeys do have the ability to do that. In fact, it's a bit insane how much they can carry at a time.

    It's cute when people argue that they have a right to express their opinion. Sure, do it all you want. But nobody is forced to let it do on their platform, in this case a forum. You have exactly zero rights to do anything on someone's platform. They might let you do things, but you never have an inherent right to do so. Neither are they required to tend to your needs or wants in any way. It's their forum. They can do whatever the hell they please. Letting this discussion continue will lead nowhere. Personally I would have closed this type of thread a lot earlier, or not allowed in the first place. And have done so on multiple occasions in the past on a much larger forum. There is a reason most communities do not allow discussion of moderator / admin actions in public. It leads nowhere and actually usually results in stricter punishment for the people involved.

    It depends on damage type. Piercing and Slashing doesn't do much against skeletons. A mace is another matter entirely though. I think the issue might more be that there is AFAIK no way to get a weapon with the mace damage type (forgot what it was called) early game, that is, before being able to smelt copper and bronze. Might be good to have a way to make a simple wooden club or something to cover that damage type.
  6. Agriculture and farming ideas

    This exactly. It's simply not true that crops require additional irrigation apart from rain if they're planted in a reasonable area. Yes, if you plant them somewhere where there isn't enough rain, then growing crops is gonna be hard. But you can't seriously believe that people always watered all their crops by hand, especially in, say, medieval times and before. No pipes. No easy way to transport large amounts of water. No rain, no crops. But unless it was a drought, crops grew just fine.
  7. [Solved] 79.9.357 Floating Trees in Worldgen

    On my server (new world with 79.12) we also still have plenty of floating trees above tall grass, pieces of stone, etc. Sequoias are particularly noticeable. Weirdly it's never only one block in 4 that's mission like on munin295's picture but always all four of them.

    Agriculture level expert also gives you nutritient information mode on your hoe. I wonder if it would make sense to also introduce a animal husbandry skill, for example.

    It's intended. Early game you won't have the tools to defend against mobs. Run and hide.

    There is most likely a limit to the area that the code assumes as part of a tree and douglas fir is apparently just one block too tall for that.

  14. Stupid Chickens...

    Is this a balance / gameplay decision or a "historic" decision? (as in, because it didn't really happen) Because I personally really like the idea of the players being able to breed deer instead of, say, pigs, and pigs (boars, really) staying a wild animal instead. After all, today's pigs, cows, chickens, etc. were all once wild animals themselves and only through generations of breeding did they become "farm animals". It's an awesome "what-if" scenario that I think would be worth enabling.

    Personally, my issue is mostly that I'd like to have paper but I guess that's scheduled for change anyway considering that nowadays you mostly use wood to make paper and AFAIK it's not like that's because it's a hightech thing.
