      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Graphite

Heaven knows that some worlds just don't want to make it easy but I can offer some advice that might speed things up. The fastest way to find graphite (that I know of) is to search for a region that has the right rock type and is also a mountain range.I have nevercome across a mountain range of a graphite bearing rock without finding graphite in it within 30 minutes of exploring the mountains. Either a piece will be exposed, sometimes many pieces or if that fails, constant prospecting will yield a result somewhere on a cliff face. Hope this helps everyone.
  2. I'm prone to agree that the amount of gravel generated is a little bit much. Gravel generating around really mountainous terrain makes sense but I don't think it should be more than one meter thick anywhere else. Now that I've got my realism argument out of the way... It doesn't really bug me. I have basically infinite easy gravel for building nice long road networks... And that's not something I'm going to complain about. Just mine ores lower down in the crust and when you find a surface vein avoid the top 3 blocks of stone and mine the safe stuff. I feel like this topic is a waste of Dev reading time. I'd rather they see our feedback on significant issues like granaries and the never ending chisel mode selection bug.
  3. Multiplayer

I would have agreed before the addition of vinegar and large vessels. I stored my apple harvest (about 9 stacks) in large vessels that were full of vinegar and 9 months later I logged on to see half at 0% and the other half at 0.3% Dried smoked salted meat in a vessel lasts a good long time too. Add dark rooms on high mountains to this setup and you should be fine even logged out in a loaded chunk for upwards of 2 in game years. In SMP we have people cooperating so that we reach these preservation milestones at a reasonable rate, this makes up for the fact that time stops in SP. The early game is tricky but with seaweed its almost impossible to starve unless you're extremely lazy. Once burlap sacks are added and (hopefully) granaries as well I don't think anyone who takes advantage of these great mechanics should have any reason to complain about food again. If you won't get off your ass to prepare, preserve and store your food properly you shouldn't get off your ass to complain that it went bad.
  4. Spawning in boring terrain.

I recently ran to -2000 getting my stash of 700 pumpkins and I saw large mountains dotted sporadically the whole way, granted in the north the spiky gravity defying ones are more common but that's not to say the lower latitudes don't are just boring little hills.
  5. [Solved] Flint?

Has there been changes to flint? I'm not getting any and I've asked around, no one seems to have it and we don't know how to get some. Could anyone who knows how to obtain this wonderful sharp rock please let me know? Thanks <3
  6. Spawning in boring terrain.

The OP's logic is flawed. If all of the terrain was exciting then none of it would be. It is the difference between smooth and sharp, light and dark, good and evil that allows us to recognize and appreciate both of them for what they are. I imagine that if exciting terrain was made more common people would complain about having a hard time exploring. Such is life.
  7. Thanks so much for adding this, it's been really useful with barrel recipes especially. I ran into a bug and I thought it might interest you. TFC currently has mud bricks for all the stone types but they have no recipe and no use. After clicking on one to see if there was a recipe (didn't know there was not at the time) nei became locked on that page. Clearing the search bar and typing something new does not take the grid of items off the mud bricks. I can still use the hot keys when hovering over items that are in an inventory, but checking the recipe and uses of something I don't have is now impossible. Once again thank you for creating this, it's really good.
  8. Vesselception

This is true, but carts have been discussed to death elsewhere and the topic has kinda been put to rest with a "not now or any time soon" feel.
  9. Can barrels stop Decay?

No, barrels provide mobile storage, they do not currently slow the decay of any food. To me this seems a little silly, for hundreds of years barrels are what people have used to store apples and root vegetables (among other foods) but for the time being the only storage unit that slows decay is the small vessel.
  10. Stone Knife Mines Ores

What if it was just as simple as holding right click with a knife on the exposed face of an ore. After 2 seconds the overlay-ed ore texture would be removed, the stone knife would break, the block would turn into the stone type around it and you would get a nugget/small ore. That way someone who finds a cliff face of copper early on can do something with it but the incentive is still high to make a pick so as to come back and obtain the full value of the metal as opposed to 10 little units per block. I think it's important that this method (if added) would give the small ore item and not poor, regular and rich ores because then pickaxes lose their value. I'ts certainly not something you would use very often but the more I think about it the more the added layer of depth and versatility appeals to me.
  11. Vesselception

I don't see a problem. But to be serious I'm sure they'll implement a nerf to donkeys.
  12. Grill deletion bug & re-fueling confusion

Ah... Wasn't aware that it worked over fire pits. Once I figured out that it worked in a forge block I didn't want to lose any more trying to see if it worked anywhere else. I'm not loaded with iron atm. Thanks for that info, I'd rather cook over a campfire too.
  13. Torch Poll

I use torches when exploring and mining and I love that they go out. On the server I play on I have now acquired over 11 stacks of pumpkins which I strategically hide aound my homes and fenced in gardens. Creeper proofing my builds is all I care about. After that's done I like the burnout. I understand that you as developers have a vision for what you have made. In your mind you have envisioned how it was meant to be played. Myself an others really love playing the game, but some of us just prefer to play it a slightly different way. I hope that you accomodate the people that just want their house lit up all the time (without needing to mess with default config) as you go forward adding new content. Minecraft started as a game totally dedicated to creativity building and I can't let go of that fundamental source of enjoyment. I'm content with my pumpkins for now and I remain anxious but hopeful to see what's next for builders.
  14. chisel and stair corner

    Oh hell yes.
  15. You might not see much of a light hit, but if you really crank down on that white hot iron ingot with a heavy blow you're gonna have enough sparks to fly out past the gui and skitter along the floor. It also depends on the size of your gui, using normal setting it should be small enough to see plenty of sparks around the edges of your screen. Remember that this is for multiplayer too, allowing you to see when someoneelse is giving their ingots a little elbow grease as well.
  16. I was testing some build ideas in SSP and while designing a forge setup for a house I fell out of fly mode and landed on an active forge block. The falling particles that come with 1.7 take on the texture of the block you land on. When landing on the lit forge it looked like this... Now doesn't that look a lot like this?... It hit me, that set of particles would look absolutely AWESOME if when you were working hot metal on the anvil they would fly out every 5 or 6 hits. Hammering away makes plenty of sound but I think this would really add the feel of working a blazing hot piece of steel/iron/bronze etc. Sparks flying all over the smithy floor and other players being able to have some visual indication of the work you are doing would be really cool imho. I know that on Hypixel Blitz PVP the particles from breaking redstone appear when you hit someone so I am going to assume that this is also possible in TFC. What are your thoughts people?
  17. Regular game play provides plenty of cobble, I see your argument but the need is not as dire as it was with smooth stone. I wouldn't count on it. If mortared cobble was a thing tho... >_>
  18. Because I am very build-focused in TFC my personal opinion is that when the builder of a small wall needs to mine 4 stacks of blocks, and someone breaking through it needs to mine 2, that increasing the time it takes to mine the block punishes the builder and does nothing to stop the attacker. This is because adding 3 seconds per block costs the attack 6 seconds but it costs the builder 384 (using 4 stacks of blocks in his wall). However, with the recent changes to torch behavior the poll Kitty made showed me that there was a majority of players who did not share my opinion on that matter. Because of that I would like to see what the community thinks about the recent changes to the time it takes to mine smooth stone and bricks, mostly smooth stone because it cannot be crafted so the mining time strongly affects how fast you can get it. THANKS FOR VOTING, results are in and developers have made a change. THANK YOU FOR LISTENING DEV TEAM. PS: Mining a single smooth stone takes about 5 seconds with a bronze pick, 4 seconds with a steel pick and 3 seconds with a red steel pick. (in 79.7)
  19. I just now remembered that the further you fall, the bigger the particle splash. If this is added then the heavy hits could produce a larger splash of sparks than medium and light hits. Different sized spark showers for different moves would be a bit more work to code but would probably be even cooler to look at. I also think it would be sweet if the color of the sparks went from white to yellow to bright red as the metal cooled.
  20. Stone Knife Mines Ores

The idea of prying ores out of exposed rocks isn't terrible, but I don't believe it's needed at all. We already have nuggets on the ground which for me is more or less the idea behind the OP, grab a rock on the ground, get the ore out, use the ore...etc. Besides, if you pan copper you should be able to have a pick and a saw by night 3 at the very latest. TFC is full of progressive game play, instead of having 90% of the mechanics available right of the start it grows with the player's experience and knowledge. If this was added I think most people would find it easiest to keep doing the copper pick first and then get into serious mining, the way it's done now. Remember that players tend to min/max, "Is it worth the time to pry out the ore? No, I could spend it panning and have a full pick in 5 minutes... Ok then, forget this I'm going to go play efficiently." And off they go. Nifty? Yes. Practical? I doubt it.
  21. I was by a pit, but it was using a gravel cover. Could be the same issue.
  22. Thanks for new fixes and tweaks!

Wow, sounds awesome, can't wait to get home and download. A personal thank you is in order in regards to the mining time. I truly appreciate it. I was first introduced to TFC from watching arkas play it for his first time. I was immediately impressed with all rustic and beautiful building materials in both wood and stone. Once I saw the versatility of the plank (now called lumber) item and the wonder that is the chisel mechanic I immediately downloaded the mod and soon learned to love other things like the metal-working system which really is a work of art. I'm glad that you developers aren't ignoring the building side of this game, combined with the excellent survival aspects it's really a great balance between easy enough to be fun but hard enough to be rewarding.
  23. If you know how to do it right you can mine straight from the surface into the middle of a vein 9/10 times. I barely use the pro-pick anymore, I don't ever get hurt from cave ins and I get my ores pretty fast. It just takes practice. That's just it, you can get better at it with practice. However practice isn't going to help you mine smooth stone any faster when the highest tier tool feels like the speed it should be using bronze. Adding challenges to the game is not a bad thing, adding challenges that can't be overcome by 90% of the player base is. Thanks for voting everyone! If you haven't already and this affects you please consider picking a side.
  24. I have to disagree about the missclick. If you place one block wrong every so often its a few seconds to fix it. Not a big deal. But when you need to collect a few hundred of blocks for a castle, courtyard, walls, basements, bloomeries and all that other jazz those extra seconds start to add up...that's when its nasty. I've already had a few buildings where I had planned to use smooth stone but after too much mindless digging decided to just go with wood because its less of a pain even though it didn't look as good.
  25. Just a note, please don't vote out of speculation. If you don't have any experience with stealing/being robbed or you don't use them in buildings anyway, don't say anything at all.
