      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Security vs. Adventure

I personally feel that light as spawn protection doesn't really fit well in TerraFirmaCraft. It's mostly OK in vanilla Minecraft, because people don't expect buildings IRL and in survival Minecraft to be very closely related. In TFC, however, we tend to want believabilaty through realism. I, at least, would like to be able to, say, have a dark cellar, or turn out the lamp when I go to bed, without worrying about being randomly blown up, shot, or bitten to death. There would have to be some other system, at least while we still have "fantasy" mobs spawning in huge numbers on the surface.
  2. Ridiculous Suggestions

Your silliest suggestions for TFC. Things that would be impossible to add, things that would be pointless, and most especially things that would be both. For example: Rocket ships: You would probably use blue steel for the nozzles; it can hold lava, after all.Less emphasis on survival and advancement, and more on food preparation and interior designTime travel. 'Nuff said.NPCs that enchant your prospecting pick so it's more accurate (that was a joke, please don't ban me!)
  3. Bring back solid thatch blocks

Would it be possible, from a coding standpoint, to make thatch have similar support mechanics to leaves? That is to say, a thatch block not 'connected' to a solid block within 4 blocks (for example) would decay or vanish. That way, it would work well as a roofing material, but not for building large structures.
  4. Soups.

Does that mean that a meal with, say, 2 oz. of veggies will restore the same amount of veggie nutrition as a meal with 10 oz. of veggies?
  5. I am missing reasons to build a shelter

It seems like what would be helpful is some way to determine how 'enclosed' a space is. It sounds like any method of propagating heat block by block is going to be very calculation-intensive. I was wondering if it might be possible for a heat source to make a quick evaluation of its surroundings by sending out rays like the explosion mechanic.
  6. I am missing reasons to build a shelter

I was wondering if it would be possible to give blocks a 'temperature' value, and have it spread with a random tick. Perhaps heat sources could raise the temperature values in immediately adjacent blocks. Then, whenever a block with a temperature value other than 'ambient' gets a random tick, it adjusts its temperature and those of blocks adjacent to it, losing some of its heat and transferring it to its surroundings. Heat transfer into solid blocks would be reduced so that walls would trap heat. Blocks with a low temperature value would be changed back to 'ambient', so you wouldn't get ridiculous numbers of block-temps to keep track of. Then again, this might be utterly impossible. I really don't have the knowledge to tell.
  7. TFC Engineer

Leave it in the sun for a few days, then wash it with salt water. The zombie bacteria will devour what's left of the flesh, and the salt will break up the resulting mucus. Be sure to wear gloves! I successfully got a square peg into a round hole, but now it won't come out. What overused metaphor makes a good makeshift crowbar?
  8. Ridiculous Suggestions

  9. Torch Discussion

I for one welcome our new burnt-out overlords.
  10. Partially Implemented Pipes?

It's been a while since I last played TFC, and I was messing around in creative mode, seeing what was new, when I came across pipes in the inventory. They can be found under '(TFC) Devices' or by searching, and come in two types: "pipe" and "valve pipe". They can be placed, will connect with each other to a certain extent, and the valve pipe has a red handle that can be clicked back and forth. Other than that, they don't seem to do anything. I can find no mention of them on the forums or wiki. Does this mean anything, or am I just being silly/alarmist/paranoid? P.S. In case it matters, I am using the latest version and I do not have any other mods installed (not even Extrafirma). P.P.S. I have screenshots, but couldn't figure out how to include them. I'm rather new to these forums.
  11. Water Flow Distance

Just a random idea I had: what if water would flow different distances depending on what it's on? Over dirt, for example, it might only flow 4 blocks, simulating it 'soaking in'. Raw stone might have the default seven blocks. If smooth stone had a greater flow (10-20 blocks, say), it would allow for aqueducts in the metal age. Non-solid blocks might have a flow of zero, since they have holes/gaps. I wouldn't expect to see anything like this for a while, since it seems likely to be a lot of work for little reward, development-wise, but I don't really know.
  12. How does one go about showing support for suggestions? More than once, I've had an idea, checked the forums, and found that someone else had already suggested it. OK, great. Now what? Especially if it's an older topic, I don't want to necro it just to say "I like this idea". Is there a poll somewhere to vote on ideas? If not, could there be?
  13. Ridiculous Suggestions

    Ask a silly question...
  14. pegs, nails, rivets, and mortar

I have been thinking that it might be nice to have at least one type of block that, no matter how good your tools, takes a while to mine through (like obsidian in vanilla). It would be useful for fortifications, where you don't want players to dig through in seconds. Stone bricks and mortar might be good for that.
  15. Crack a joke

Patient: Doctor, I think I'm allergic to big, fancy catamarans. Are there any drugs that might help? Doctor: Hmm, I recommend some anti-"bi-yacht"-ics.
  16. Easy to Implement Ideas

    1) Whittling interface: now you, too, can use a knife and log to make bowls, sticks, and . . . boomerangs? 2) Caltrops: Craft out of stone (wood? see above) or metal, placed on ground. Work like rasberry bushes, but they only hit feet. 3) Removal of the need to craft the crafting table, just start out with a 3x3 grid. Am I the only one who finds it odd that, before getting your first saw, you don't have it in you to make a fishing pole, but after you're willing to lug around a cubic meter of wood just incase you feel like doing so?
  17. Partially Implemented Pipes?

    Thanks. My paranoina is assuaged.
