      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Twitch/Curse Beta Versions, Play and comments

4 posts in this topic

I recently circled back to see what was going on with this mod, and found that some beta versions had been released on Curseforge / Twitch!

In this thread I'm going to comment on what I see in gameplay and what I think might be bugs. Feel free to do so as well / make note if something I'm seeing doesn't seem right or is slated to be fixed already.

These comments pertain to  TerraFirmaCraft-MC1.12.2-0.26.2.92.jar

- fire pits don't appear to generate. I've only been able to get the firestarter to start minecraft fires, which it does a fine job at albeit slowly. When you place the sticks, straw or no, and hold down the firestarter on the spot, it always generates a minecraft fire block. Sort of cramps my style!

- male deer appear to be dropping medium sized pelts, whereas the wiki states they should be able to drop large pelts; a large pelt is necessary to make a straw bed.

- mob health/damage seems to be different than expected; other than player health, mobs and weapons seem to reflect vanilla behavior. This may be because of WAWLA; it also doesn't indicate male or female on animals. (thus my third problem may be that does don't drop large pelts anyway.)

- gameplay question: This is an old question I never asked. What do people typically make stone-age dwellings out of? Knowing a bit more about survival dwellings and construction in general, I wonder why wattle doesn't exist, since it's more or less the standard wall building material for huts, and lathe+plaster is based off of wattle+daub.

Thanks. Things look great so far!

RiverC,

I will answer your gameplay question.  I don't know enough about the state of the 1.12 beta to answer the others.

First, I think most people don't spend that much time in the Stone Age.  It is perhaps an underutilized game stage, but the ease with which one finds 10 copper nuggets ensures few people will remain in the Stone Age for very long.  That being said, you do have some options.

In TFC itself, most players contract rudimentary shelters (prior to obtaining copper) by using some combination of dirt, clay, logs, and possibly cobblestone.  I think the most efficient thing to do is find a hilly area with clay, dig into the clay (which retains it form), and supplement the structure with logs as needed.  You can also use clay to make pottery for early storage.  Again, however, this phase of the game can be pretty short.  Whenever I start a new TFC world, I am typically in the Stone Age for less than 2 game days.

In the decorations add-on to tfc (see below), we also have access to pre-metal age non-gravity mud bricks which more or less match the block you are looking for.  I don't know whether and to what extent this will be implemented in 1.12..  They require straw, clay, and dirt to make, and they are very useful early on.

Yeah, 1.12 doesn't seem to have any specific add-on mods at this time. I'm using WAWLA/HWYLA + Better Foliage (seems to work mostly tho' it creates a lot of lag), jei and journeymap. Either way, there's a new beta today, as I suspected there would be (based on the previous update rate.)

Speaking of wattles, there was a 'morematerials' mod for 1.10 (iirc) that added wattles and allowed you to make daub that you could apply to them. Wattles were implemented as a variant of iron bars, but made of just sticks, with a kind of wicker texture, and with a very quick break speed/low blast durability. I don't recall if they were flammable - fire burning on bar models looks weird either way. A very useful material to make a hut quickly, and not usable as a roofing material (due to the spaces between the model.)

One other thing I noticed is that shift-clicking doesn't set down pottery, so it made firing clay impossible.

Would be interesting to see firepits implemented similarly to kilns, just to make a continuation between the mechanics; i.e. shift-click setting down eight straw, then eight sticks. Could be four and four-- or could be sticks and stones. Either way, this closely mimics the real construction of a fire pit and isn't too significant a hassle.

Can't wait to see if the decor mod is implemented for 1.12- hopefully we can get some momentum!

The beta is much farther along than you'd think from your notes. There are some differences. Some for compatibility, some for developer taste. Here's a list: https://tng.terrafirmacraft.com/Differences_From_Classic One of these is that clay dirt (natural clay spawns) have gravity now. The only materials breakable without metal tools that don't have gravity are wood and peat, I think.

This forum is almost dead. The discord is much more active: https://invite.gg/terrafirmacraft

Good luck!
