      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Color of ores?

11 posts in this topic

I found a supervein (excavating a room all the way around it to see its size.) of Tetrahedrite and found some other smaller veins of the same Tetrahedrite that are completely different in color some are yellow+grey other is brown+green and the other is brown and orange.

Edit: Just found out the some of the rock I was standing on was also Tetrahedrite looks exactly like the stone I'm mining. Also found a black and white vein.

Is this normal? Shouldn't the type of ore stay the same color?

seen that thing too some times... Im not sure if it happens when you're on a layer-edge... but the other colors do not match the stone around.

I have this large vain of Magnetite. part of it is in Granite and another is in Claystone.

The part in granite shows as a dark grey stone with a light "vomit" green kind of ore color.

Where the part in claystone shows are red-ish stone with a grey ore color.

The ore colors are very different, the granite has a light color where the claystone has a dark color.

Edit: roaming around in this cave there are several ores like limonite and gypsum that the stone part of the ore doesnt look any thing like the stone its suppose to be in.

Another example is I found some Saphalerite in Quartzite that has a stone of orange/red color that looks alot like claystone. but quartizte is a dull white color.

I've noticed some ores don't show their proper color or even stone color sometimes. relogging (if on a server) seems to temporarily fix it.

The ore textures are actually the "vein" looking part overlayed on the correct stone layer they're found in. I think the actual color of the vein will vary, too, depending on what stone they're on.

It's a perfectly intentional effect so that ores look more natural.

i've noticed quite regularly while playing smp that a number of the ores seem to be stealthing to have an identical texture to the stone/dirt next to them until you tap them with the propick at which point it reveals the ore's normal texture, is that how it's intended to work? or am i seeing something buggy?
