      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

How to light large firepits?

10 posts in this topic

if you say, made a 25 x 13 firepit, how do you light it once you place all the wood blocks?

I'd say quickly :).

But seriously, your best bet might be from underneath. Have a tunnel going to the base of the fire-pit and just leave a space besides the fire-pit (so you can reach it), light it, then cover that space with wood, then fill in the place under the wood and proceed to use the tunnel to get out from beneath the fire pit.

Granted that's just speculation, but probably your best bet to not load 13+ log piles to get out.

Here's a little basic diagram:

I'd say something like this:

Have you tested anything like that?

From what I had heard, the fire-pit had to be in the center, else there were issues with it not burning.

Though that certainly would be the preferred way to do it, if it worked.

I put mine on the ende of a 9x9, not in the center, and it works. I would assume the firepit will go 12 in each direction plus itself so if your pit is only 13 across, the firepit can be on the edge so long as there is a log directly above it. If you go more than 13 across, you will have to move the firepit so there are no more than 12 on either side. In the case of a 25x25, you would need to center it to cover the full area.

I have been told that the firepit needs wood on all 4 sides and above, and that the entire deal needs to be contiguous without diagonals. So that means a 3x2x3 cap of wood around the firepit. Beyond that you can have as much wood as long as it's all contiguous with the cap around the firepit.

Do you mean diagonals horizontally or veritically? My pit is a pyramid so it has vertical diagonals and it works fine. Also, now that I think about it... my firepit is not right on the edge, it is one in from the edge on the bottom layer so it is directly below the edge of the second layer (which is ground layer so I think of it as the edge), but covered on all sides and above by logs. I also noticed that only the block directly above the firepit will show smoke instead of the whole pit.

the problem is getting at the base of it to light the fire and not burning on the way out, the entry from below idea was what I was going with already, since it was seconded and seems the sanest plan I'll stick with it.

Doing it From the top would most likely get my ass burned off.trying to place all the wood for 12 levels.

I think the word adjacent would have been a better choice to describe the setup of the wood piles better.
