      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

frost ( small simple suggestion)

16 posts in this topic

hi there

just had this small idea that i thought would be interesting

when the world temp drops below 0 "frost" appears on trees and plants

i am trying to think of something that frost could do (maybe damage crops or trees?)

thats all i had to say

good day

hm nice idea, it could damage crops (you shouldnt plant crops in winter or too early) and it could increase the food point loss of player (to keep himself alive)

but with an firepit near to you or some warm cloth, you dont have that issue...

(maybe greenhauses to early preplant your crops and replanting them later, so you can harvest earlyer?)

In spring it could melt into water, which you could potentially collect (because of "finite water" obviously)

another interesting thing to appear in winter should be icicles

they should form on trees and overhangs

(edit)

what if icicles formed only in really cold locations, maybe after the temp dips below - 20 ?

I think temperature damage mitigated by clothing would be very helpful in immersion and 'fun' (DF-style). I'd love to see hydration as well, but I'm venturing into off-topic. I like this idea and those that followed and enhanced it. It would be great to see that temperature reading become more than just a number.

totally agree though at the moment i would very much like leather armor (or fur clothing) to stop cold as i would most likely die every time i left my home on my single player map >.<

also any more ideas for stuff that should appear in winter ?

Different textures for foxes and rabbits

I'd love to have a (very hard to code and implement) temperature circulation system, where you'd have to make sure your shelter was properly heated by a slow-burning fire, and was small and well-insulated enough to keep that heat in. That's a pretty big ask though, I suppose.

Love the idea of small winter-themed things like frost though. Awesome :)

So would this use the usual thin show coating already in the game or just overlay a snow-looking sprite on outside blocks? I guess actual snowfall could be increased to half a block and the 16th block version can be used for frost. Making it overlay over plants and play well with the optifine setting for nicer looking snow could be tricky, but making this look nice without a ton of work seems problematic.

Don't really care for the gameplay effects, seems more tied to extreme cold itself. This would just be a visual indicator of very cold locations when it isn't snowing.

hmm the above post is true

perhaps we could have "frost" form as a tile in the same way that sulfur forms near lava

when snow forms on the ground, frost will form after a given time ?

Sounds good to me .. Does sulphur generate around lava on world gen or over time ? If over time, I'm sure there would be a way to easily adapt this for cold weather :P

sulfur (from what i ve seen) generates over time so yea i think this could work for frost as well (also icicles)
