      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Upcoming change in pre48.

10 posts in this topic

  • Added a setting in TFCOptions.cfg for changing the length of a MC day. A typical MC day lasts 24000 ticks. By setting it to 48000, a full day will take twice as long. Conversely, 12000 will make days pass twice as fast. DO NOT CHANGE THIS IF YOU PLAY SMP UNLESS THE SERVER HAS IT CHANGED AS WELL.

Couldn't you just make it so the server overrides anything set in the config file? Theoretically one should be able to change the day setting to anything, go on a server, and it should be using the server's config setting. I see no reason to add this warning unless the server doesn't correctly override the config setting.

I think it's because the calendar might get screwed with if both you and the server don't have the same amount of time allocated to the measurement of the days.

Doesn't this mean that if, as a server owner, I decide to change the day length, that all my players will have to also change it or they won't see the right times?

That appears to be correct sdbay, i would strongly suggest either not changing it, or having your players get a notification when you do it, so as not to screw with stuff.

I can't even get new players to stop leaving spawn and getting murdered at night (hard-mode server), I doubt I'd ever be able to get them all to modify their config files.

I would suggest leaving the day tick amount at default then.

Could there be a special case message when connecting saying improper configs or something? Maybe when it detects differed configs you are sent to an area free off the conflictions until you read there what has been changed and what to change it to

That would be nice, but what would be Nicer, is if it was able to temp. override the singleplayer config, to match the smp config, so there is little to no player-setup required when joining a server. because, as it would be, almost no large server could be un-whitelisted AND have a different cycle time.

I think the important question is: can a player exploit the setting this option to a value that does not match the server? I can't imagine it doing anything a player would want it to do, but if it can, then that would be a problem.

Of course, this was able to be done in vanilla Minecraft, so i doubt much can be done to prevent a core problem, as it is however, it's not much different than putting your brightness to bright.
