      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

      There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
      If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
      I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Is fishing cheating?

The title basically says it. Killing one spider can mean a stack of food, and it'd be more TFC-like to have the "chance to catch per tick" decrease when you fish, while regenerating only very, very slowly. Right now, fishing is a pretty easy way out of the early game food problematic. Do you consider fishing cheating?

uhm...i don't know about you guys...but i don'T have any food problematic since the animals drop literally tons of food...

find a "group" of pigs or cows. javelin them and get like what...80 meat?! ...and animals are pretty much all over the place...

so no..i don't consider it cheating...fishing is waaaaaay slower then hunting as of now..

Agreed. At TFC current state, hunting is much easier and profitable than fishing. Once hunting becomes less valuable, then it may be time to reconsider. Espeically now that farming is nerfed out of usefulness.

Farming isn't nerfed out of usefulness (for servers, anyway). Fishing is being reworked to be more like hunting, and more rewarding. Fish will be finite, but will heal much more. Fish steaks or something.

thats why even on "singleplayer" i now use a server running on my pc, just because then i can have it running when i go and eat or sth...otherwise my seasons will never change:/

I just run th game on debug mode and skip a week for each day. Les trouble than running a server

Hunting gives you a lot of food, I'll grant you guys that, but as animal husbandry makes your stock grow exponentially, I take a lot of time to consider before I kill even one animal. I think TFC adds a nice challenge in terms of "what are you doing to Earth?", and in this context, it's favorable to use the Earth in replenishable ways.

A group of animals lasts you for quite some time, but I, for instance, still don't overeat or run just because I have a stack of porkchops with me. Not until I have seen one crop grow fully. I try to use eggs as much as possible, too. The thing is just: fishery is infinite.

But seeing as it's going to change, I'll interpret the answer as "Actually, yes. Fishing isn't meant to work the way it does, but 'cheating' and 'beta version' are difficult terms."

However, thanks for the idea, dudes. I haven't considered playing on a "singleplayer server" or using debug mode. Sorry for asking something probably easy to figure out, but can I configure an automatism for your "skip a week for each day" idea, or will I have to enter a command every night?

Also i don't like debug mode...it kinda feels like cheating to me...while just standing in my room and waiting...well at least i could be eaten by a zombie if my place isnt safe...

This is one of the best parts of this mod ^_^

Yes, I think that for now fishing is OP, because it restores like a bread that can take months to be prepared (for the wheat I mean).

Actually, if you go AFK for a few minutes (i think 5?) mobs will ignore you. But yeah, i used to do this too lol XD

I'd like to see different fish types based on biome, and some of those being edible raw (yay, sushi.)

Also, maybe fish could be actual mobs, and you would have to dig up earthworms to use as bait?

Fishing is just a placeholder for now, i believe that you will have to catch actual entities.
