      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Make fruit trees drop wood.

14 posts in this topic

Why not make fruit trees drop a small amount of wood when you cut them down? I mean, if you go and cut down an apple tree irl, you'll get lots of wood. So why is it that the wood in fruit trees magically disappear when it's cut down? Also, this would make it easier surviving in biomes where the only tree is fruit trees.

Why would you ever cut down a fruit tree... that's just a bad idea IMO, if you reallly want the wood, make a creeper explode near it, that effs with the damage values, and makes wood logs.

I tried the creeper thing, and it didn't work. Also, the wood would be useful if you are on an island in anocean biome without any saplings. The only trees that spawn on the islands are fruit trees.

I noticed that, and it will probably be worked out in the future. The problem with fruit tree wood is that the trees do not grow very big, they take forever to grow and we'd have to add like 30 new types of wood and planks

besides, they still don't drop sticks, (yes, a bone axe could be made) but you wouldn't be able to start a fire

And I think this should be fixed by making fruit tree leaves drop sticks when they are broken. Also, they could just have one type of log for all fruit trees. Not the most realistic, but still better than having the wood magically disappear.

sounds good, forgive me for asking but how currently do you get the fruit from the trees?

hmm okay maybe we would right click the leaves if they have fruit on em?

breaking leaves would just drop saplings/sticks like other trees

I think it would be nice if we could right click the leaves, like with tomatoes, to get the fruit.

From what I understand, though I have no first hand experience of this as of yet, you get fruits from fruit trees by destroying the leaf blocks during the 'Harvest' month for a specific tree/fruit. And to get fruit tree saplings, you have to use an axe on the branches of the tree(unsure about the actual trunk, but I can confirm that the cross-shaped branches give saplings.)

Fruit Trees on the wiki for more information.

Also, just to mention it together with the fruit trees, to see what month it is in-game, press the hotkey for the calendar(default: N), to see what time, day, month, year it is, as well as temperature, and a couple of other things. If I'm not mistaken, you start the game at March 1, Year 1000. Which is also the first day of spring.

And to get back on topic, I'd rather not have logs from fruit trees. Sticks may not be such a bad idea, though it would be a waste of fruit tree to take away the leaves off-season. But really, when is the last time you heard someone using wood from an apple-tree to build a house? Granted, some kinds of fruit-bearing wood might have other uses than simple construction, but so far, aside from charcoal pits, wood really have little use other than chests, doors and building houses.

The only things that really comes to mind is that some fruit-bearing trees, for example apple, is used for smoking fish/meat, but as there is as of yet no smoking in TFC, it would not have much use now.(For anyone who might feel inclined to dispute this, cooking something over a firepit is not the same thing as smoking it. =D)

Just my input on the topic,

~Carthang

I do not like the idea of fruit trees dropping anything other than fruit. There is no reason whatsoever to encourage people to sabotage other's orchards for resources. "But I needed sticks and your trees are the only things in this plains" etc.

That is another matter entierly. If you live where there is no forest, you keep at least a tree or two growing near your house. At least that is how I do it, I don't fancy walking to the next biome or maybe further still just to get some logs. I plant a couple of trees(usually of various kinds as well) nearby.

And generally, if people don't respect other's property on SMP, then there is little stopping that orchard destroyer from killing off your animals because he needs food, clearing your farm for that same purpose, or "borrowing" your pickaxe because he doesn't have enough metals himself.(Of course, having trees wouldn't really solve the problem either if he is truly a griefer, which is why I always keep saplings at random places in my chests, to make sure I don't run out of wood. =D)

I can understand your concern though, but potential griefing should not be a valid reason on it's own to disregard an idea. In the end, it all comes down to personal preferences I suppose, like so many other suggestions. =P

well you see, it makes sence to right click tomatoes to get them, becuase it simulates "picking the fruit off the plant"

with carrots, when yuo harvest them, you remove the entire plant from the ground
