      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

No Metals Generating from Surface Rocks?

7 posts in this topic

Hey guys,

Just got TFC and was watching videos and saw how easy it was to get different metals from the surface rocks.

Soon after testing it out, I found that after breaking a surface rock for the umpteenth time, I was only getting the rock.

I tried loading different worlds and moving really far away from spawn, but nothing is working.

Oh, and by the way, I'm using Forge Universal Build 4.1.4.288 (it was the latest available stable build),

Modloader 1.3.2, Player API 1.4, and TFCraft Universal Core B2 Build 52e.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,

Jabathewhat

You don't want ModLoader. Forge has its own version of ModLoader that loads things from the mods directory.

No idea if that's what's causing your issue, you may just be unlocky and not have any ore veins near enough to the surface.

When I'm searching for those first metals, I go long distances and break only a few rocks in each area along the way. So break like 5 or six rocks all close together and if you don't get any ore, then move like 50 blocks away and try again. When you get an ore this way, that's when you stay in that area and break every rock you can find.

EDIT: Sometimes I've had to travel over 1000 blocks to find something, so be patient and keep an eye out for other things you'll need, like flux stone and clay as you travel.

Yeah, I've generally if low on ores just walked in a straight line towards the equator breaking only rocks within my arm's reach, it's not a thorough scan, but it'll be easier to farm closer so I may as well.

i usually find ores close to rivers or other bodies of water other that the ocean so that's also a good place to look for them... and starting a sluice system to get as much as you can while building or doing something else :) you can try this seed if you want i found lots of ores close to the Spawning Point -2797195896540496815 you'll spwn in front of a river, just follow it and grab all the rocks around it :) good hunting

Also you might want to make sure that you're in an area that even has the starter metals.

(Okay I guess there are no rocks without starter metals, so it also comes down to luck.)

Metals are found within certain rock types, so you just need to be conscious of that.

Yeah, it's worth mentioning that some areas just won't have metals in them. My homebase is in a flux zone (Limestone surface layer), so I had to walk quite a way (past the Tortoise Hills and Driftshield Tundra) to find my first ores. I just got them today, and I've been playing this world for a couple of in-game weeks now. It's just how my dice rolled.

Felt good to find the sphalerite field, though. It's flipping ON, now. B)
