      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Sugar and spice?

24 posts in this topic

I'm thinking with the meal system we should be able to add sugar, and other seasonings into food(to be added?), either as part of the 4 slots we have or as an additional 1 or 2 slots to the side.

And this would need a new mechanic added, spoiling food, and spices/seasonings would increase the shelf life. Correct?

Anyway, I am in 100 percent support of this idea. Salt and Pepper should also be added. Sugar could also have a short energy boost.

Well, I've yet to see a single mod do spoiling food, but eventually that'd be absolutely wonderful, and who knows, when Bioxx is working miracles happen every day! lol

I am not sure how the ingredients system works as it is, but if sugar was added it could provide... a minute or so of haste, or speed, or jump boost, but maybe be less filling so filling up on sugary things makes you need to eat healthier to balance x]

unrelated:

In version 53 I believe I made a meal and ended up with jump boost 2 or 3, and it was ridiculous, felt like I was on the moon. lol

Sugar would give you the ability to do highly energy requiring things, and the hunger would deplete far faster than normal while "under" sugar.

And the spoilt food could work kind of like the heat system, and as is gets more spoilt, it has a higher chance, and a higher possibility of severity of debuffs such as nausea, slowness, poisoning, etc

Hmm, yeah, it would seem the same system could be added as another layer of data, though how much lag it would cause... well, honestly, that's not my job to know anything about, Bioxx, Dunk, opinion?

Well, personally(idk much about coding) I don't really think it would be much more than having an inventory full of heated metal bars. That doesn't really cause lag, does it? But yes, Dunk, opinion?

That doesn't involves lag... But it is a rather big feature, it is feasible.

while i do agree that cooking and food in general need an overhaul, spoling has been discussed many many times

and im not quite sure what adding spices and stuff would do to food

because adding spices does not make food fill you up more, so making it restoire more hunger points are out

and making it cause a buff was already shot down a long time ago

so really adding spices, although it would be neat, would really serve no purpouse

When they said spices that preserve they were referring to salt mostly, which has been disscussed plenty of times as well. However according to them anyways buffs from food were obviously brought back up... Renadi, today 4:29 "unrelated: In version 53 I believe I made a meal and ended up with jump boost 2 or 3, and it was ridiculous, felt like I was on the moon. lol" Sounds like a buff to me.

Hell yeah, spiced food is more filling. Maybe not physically, in volume, but I always feel way more full when I eat spiced food because it tastes better.

There's a hidden 'satisfaction' value under the hood of MC, that reflects how filling your food is (whereas hunger reflects how nutritious it is). Spice would probably add to that value.

Yeah, the system put in has buffs, that one was ridiculous, but I've managed to get resistance, fire resistance, jump boost, and I believe something else, not in the most recent version mind you, but it's quite obviously an intention to have some meals confer these buffs.

Is this "satisfaction" actually an underlying vanilla/TFC thing that I don't know about? Or are you suggesting a new mechanic?

Either way, I am all for that. +1

I know Eternal has talked about saturation, an existing mechanic (I think), before, which is what I think az is referring to.

Ahh yes. I knew about saturation. Thank you. That clears it up nicely. Thanks arch.

Yeah, it's a Minecraft mechanic, basically after eating a meat you get more points to saturation which means it takes longer before your hunger bar starts decreasing agaionn, it's one of those actually good mechanics buried in Minecraft that most people just don't have a clue about.

I'm glad I could help, usually I make it worse...

Speaking of that, Who's got the pennies? (just kidding, or am I?)

Considering that Half of Manhattan is underwater, I am cancelling preparations for the heist. No one likes rusty pennies.

Oh, and I guess it's for charity, so that would be kinda mean to take those rusty pennies :/

Not entirely sure that is the best kind of joke you could be doing right now, you know... :

Maybe they asked for donations to create a "national pennies's park". The donations, in pennies, were placed as the first coins in the park. This attracted more tourism, and the visitors donated more money. That way, they ended up with that giant pile of money, and THEN started to get benefits from the donations.

Hmm, didn't think about that, mostly since I was affected by Sandy as well. Not nearly as bad as NYC, but It was still a huge storm up here. But yeah, it was probably a bit too soon. I was thinking of it as more of a penny centric joke, but yeah, guess that could be taken multiple ways. Sorry to anyone in NY or NJ who might take offense to my above comment :/
