      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Unbearable Lag on High Power Computer

16 posts in this topic

Hello everyone. I have recently downloaded TerraFirmaCraft to my computer, because I have been watching Spumwack's let's play of the mod, and I became interested. I downloaded and installed the mod following Spumwack's tutorial video, and I log onto the mod. I get unbearable lag, and an average of 7-10 FPS, on tiny render distance, with the latest version of Optifine installed. This is a shock, because I average about 120-130 FPS on far render distance in vanilla Minecraft, even in SMP. How can I run vanilla Minecraft with high graphics on far and get over a hundred FPS, then turn almost everything off and switch to tiny in TFC, and get 7 FPS? I did not notice any change in the performance before or after Optifine. In the mean time, I will try to re-install the mod. Below are my mod specs.

MOD:

*Minecraft version 1.4.2

*TerraFirmaCraft Universal Core Build 66

*Minecraft Forge Universal 6.0.1.341

*Player API universal 1.1

*Optifine 1.4.2 HD U A7

Notes:

I have played Tekkit a lot in the past, and even with that massive mod-pack , I still get 90 FPS on far render distance.

Try without Optifine because TFC acts funny with it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll also go up to the latest builds of everything, meaning a complete re-install. But for now, AP homework awaits me.... :)

Umm... really you should make sure you're using a clean build totally. Try using something like MultiMC and creating a totally clean instance. Start with nothing but the bare minimum.

*Minecraft Forge Universal 6.0.1.341

Also, you are using the wrong Forge. You should be using 354 as stated in the change log.

In what way? Work fine for me.

Also:

354 forge is fine too. Just use Magic Launcher insted of jamming everything into minecraft.jar.

Ok, I have reinstalled everything, using the proper builds and such, and it still didn't get good fps. I the installed Optifine, and magically I get 80-90 fps. The thing is though, I have to play it in windowed version. If I use function-11 to full screen, I go immediately down to 15 fps. I don't mid playing it In windowed version at all though, as I played the game that way for the first 8 months I played the game, so it's like second nature. Thanks for everyone's help, and hopefully this can help some others that may have the same issue. My main problem was that I was using a mix of different builds of the mods.

Hmm maybe I should try playing windowed because I have FPS issues also. Are you using the default size or a maximized window?

I have drastic FPS drop on fullscreen too :/ but if i full size window then no drop. Vanilla runs in window with optifine at SSP between 200-300 FPS!! TFC 50-70 with same options :/ but and that far render, i can play vanilla at extreme if i wait it load a bit :)

i'm not totally sure, but it sounds like ram is the bottleneck for low fps... and here is the conundrum, you want to keep your ram footprint as low as possible while giving the game enough headroom to run with whatever settings you have. try upping minecrafts share little by little and see if it improves fps. i also find the multimc console helpful, if the game does something ...odd, it usually gives some reason for it. check it out while playing the game and see if you get strange messages.

I have allocated 1024 and 2048 for java at MultiMc options, if i dont do that TFC starts lagging after 5 mins really horribly :/
