      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

[B66] Stone Anvils

13 posts in this topic

Hi,

since version 66 is still beta, are stone anvils broken, or I just don't understand how one is supposed to find an Raw Igneous Stone for an anvil if it's underground below other stones and rocks that can't be used as anvils?

No pickaxe -> no deeper underground -> no Raw Igneous Stone anvils -> no pickaxe :)

You can find igneous rock above ground, its just kinda rare.

Keep looking!

Well, I spent like an hour running around, no anvil rocks to be found... It's kinda counter intuitive to not be able to use basic rocks for basic tools... Even more so when you need to find rocks that are beneath them :D

TFC is meant to be a larger world than vanilla, things have their own location, but so far I've always managed to find igneous rocks within a KM of spawn.

So, just running around, or random digging, or both?

Or should I look for some caves/canyons?

Pick a direction and keep that way for a good while, the biomes tend to stretch a bit. On my last SSP I didn't find a tree for the first half hour of the game. Once I did though I established a nice little farm off of a plains river. Just keep looking and breaking the surface rocks. Keep an eye on the color of the local rocks for any idea of when you might be getting close. To familiarize yourself with what the target rocks look like, check them out in creative mode.

Way to go, 2mg! for future reference, just by collecting the rocks on the surface, you can see what kind of rock lies below the soil (if'n you didn't already know). Granite is something I almost always run into immediately. But then again every world is different... and I do recall spawning into a world where I couldn't get an ore drop for about an hour till I finally hit the jackpot in a granite laden field.

Have fun!

Yeah, easy street is when you find granite or basalt near spawn, pretty much set as long as trees also spawn nearby.

Still, I do think that all raw stone blocks should be used as anvils.

Best trick I've always used is to test the surface rock in a specific biome and if it doesn't have an igneous-intrusive top layer, then I don't have to dig another hole until i find another biome. The way the world-gen works, I think, is that the same rock strata is shared between all locations of the same biome. So if you can't find igneous stones in a sequoia forest then there's no reason to look for igneous stones again near sequoia trees.
