      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Soil in TFC vs MC Vanilla

13 posts in this topic

Just a quick question - does the soil follow Minecraft's 4 blocks radius around water source as being irrigated?

If so, will the watered soil speed up the plant's growth?

For now I think it does. And no, I don't think that plants can grow outside the hydrated soil. Yes, they can grow outside the hydrated soil, but with a slow growth debuff. <-- JAG said this.

They can, but they get a slow growth debuff.

And the unhydrated soil dries up and vanishes faster, correct?

Also, does temperature affect plants? I presume winter, and cold temperatures per se do?

Thank you for a quick responses!

I think yes, because some crops died in winter. Also the soil for now doesn't have a nutrition or hydration level, then it doesn't deplete.

Mostly correct. Tilled soil doesn't seem to degrade ever though. And there's no visual indication on drying out/depleting.

Temperature is definitely affects plants, rainfall value seem to affect growth of grass, so it is supposedly affects other plants as well. I don't know about evatranspiration ratio.

Since we're on it, I'll throw a Q in here too. Made a nice little farm by my lake and discovered that most of my seeds instantly re-pop out of the ground when I try to plant them. I tried all sorts of things, but couldn't get those seeds to plant anywhere. They flash as the plant for a moment and then pop back out as seeds again. On the same plot, I could plant other seeds and they would work fine.

Anyone know a reason for this?

Did you harvested anything from that spot already or it is the first time you trying to plant there?

If latter, it is about plants' growth conditions doesn't allow them to be planted. If the former, then it is nutrient levels' thing and it means you should cycle crop types on your fields.

Check your mc/forge/playerapi/tfc versions.

Then, read this thread :)

Maybe, it's biome specific - cold/hot temps, height, light level around plants...

How does one measure nutrient levels/why and which crops should be rotated?

There aren't levels for now.

One does guide himself by this page.

There's no way to check nutrient level, if stuff doesn't grow - change crop type, or cycle them from the start.

There aren't levels for now.

Where's that said? Levels are in since b2b48 and in b2b53 there aren't water saturation levels, but I haven't seen anything about simplifying nutrient level system.

It was the first time I tried planting there. I had forgotten about the nutrient thing... assumed I should be able to plant it because it was found growing nearby naturally, but as we talked about in another thread, that may not have mattered. (That is, Dunk confirmed in the other thread that the random spawning is not affected by temperature/climate. Makes sense that it would also not be affected by soil type then.)
