      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Are crops and trees effected by the climate?

11 posts in this topic

I tried planting some crops in a very cold area, almost at x:20,000, and most of the crops instantly popped out of the ground, instead of growing. I few of the crops didn't do that, but have yet to grow. I also planted both fruit and wood trees, none of which have grown yet. (although I haven't waited very long. So why aren't they growing? Is it too cold for them? it's been -13C out.

-13C is well below freezing, so yeah, plants aren't going to grow in that. There are a few issues with the randomly generated plants that they grow where they shouldn't at present, but this will be fixed soon enough.

Btw, x-axis is east-west, not north-south. Your z-axis is what determines your latitude.

Oh, right, I meant z axis. In terms of temperature, will everything grow as long as it's above freezing? And why doesn't it say this on the wiki? Also, will it ever get above freezing in the tundra where I am?

don't think it's about the temperature (maybe efficiency but not the growing or not), here: http://terrafirmacra...soil-nutrients/

even though I had +5, nothing grew.

I guess you can only grow crops below the +-10000 z axis (near the equator)

Growth does depend on temperature (like vlad said, whether it grows, not whether it can be planted) but we don't know the extent to which as this is quite a recent addition to the beta, which is also why it's not on the wiki. It's prone to change at this time. You can grow some crops north/south of the +-10k mark. I've grown a couple now up around -12k.

Kirhak, you're basically at the north pole. So no, it's never going to get above freezing. If you want to do agriculture, your best bet is to walk south 12-14 kilometres or so.

You don't really need the wiki to tell you that crops won't grown when ambient temp is -13C...

The wiki should reflect that crops are affected by temperature, it is a feature that doesn't exist in Vanilla.

I can confirm at -15k Green Apple and Cherry Trees do function properly. Thus I presume that fruit trees are not affected by temperature.

let me ask another question concerning crops.

is it possible to grow crops underground in TFC just like in vanilla? as long as i fill the room with torches!

Gotta say you the typical answer, as it fits:

Not a f+cking idea, test by yourself.

This will be changing. Dunk confirmed in another thread that this is not supposed to happen; it's what I meant by randomly generated plants not acting accordingly. They're just dealing with more critical stuff first.

Guess I had better get as much harvest in while I can.
