      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Crops...

19 posts in this topic

I've just created my first farm of crops. There are 25 wheat planted and 1-5 of most other crops. I was wondering how long it takes for them to grow? I couldn't find anything about it on the wiki. I configured the day length to 25 tics and let a couple of years pass in a creative world, nothing grew. This leads me to believe that it takes X amount of tics to possibly grow, like in vanilla and unlike TFC trees.

Also, how big are your fully established farms?

it takes a year, but if you use the /time set 0 it will reset the years so it wont work, also the terrain can have something to do with it.

I have 64 of each, temperature about 18.

some grow pretty fast, 3+ times a year, like carrot and onion, some less.

I used the config file to "speed up" time so that one day in MC was 25 tics instead of the ordinary 24000 tics. So within a minute IRL several years past in MC. But nothing grew in that time...

How do you see the temperature? According to the wiki you can see it in the calendar, but I (in build 69) cannot.

Also, temperature doesn't even affect crops, does it? The temperature page on the wiki doesn't say so...

for crop time, also check F3 for Rain value. Those dry plain areas with the dead grass? crops and trees (fruits too) cant grow there and the rain value there is like 63. plant where the rain value is between 1000 and 8000

Dont do that.... it will cause chaos in your world. because when you enter the world the game just counts the days already passed by ticks, not days and it does that with the actual config. So adjusting the config, letting a few days pass, leave the game and set it back to 24000 ticks, won't do anything. If you want a better singleplayer experience, set day/year down to something like 36 or 48 and the stuff will grow at a useful speed.

Yeah I tried to set it to 24, seems to be a little faster. Thank you!

My rain value is at 500 and there's no dead grass around. Some of the crops are finished growing by now so maybe rain should be between 500 and 8000?

efth your year length must be a multiple of 12 or it doesn't work well.

Mention of the temperature from the calendar page has now been removed to avoid confusion. I updated the image too but for some reason it is not displaying on viewing the page, even though it seems to know its dimensions and if you click on the broken link icon, it displays the image just fine. Now idea what's up with that... bizarre. But at least the page is updated.

The ammount of precipitation you got doesent matter as long as you have water around your crops. Afaik the 4 block from water rule from vanilla is taken over. Just make sure you got water around and you won't have problems.

So can you use dry grass?

place water near dry grass and it will turn into normal grass, btw. Added in one of the latest builds.

You can farm on dry grass, I have a farm/ranch in dry plains. I'd like to add that the sapling spread mechanic + dry areas = tree lined waterways after a while, which is basically awesome.

I like this idea, if it could be spread to deserts there could be palms along the rivers, and oases with trees all around, naturally.
