      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

ridiculous damage on chisels

8 posts in this topic

After the new update I decided to make a cool window using the chisel detailed mode, however the damage that my chisel took from making it (used one block) was ridiculous, I spent 2 chisels to make it and I ended up with a half broken one, I really think they should lower this.

yeah i find this incredibly unbalanced, they should make the chissel take 1/8 damage when slabbing and 1/512 of damage while destroying small blocks.

I'm... not that sure they can make it so something loses fractions of durability with every use, quite honestly... ._.

The problem ISN'T in the durability it takes for every action with the chisel, but probably in the chisels you are using. Low tier metal tools have a really small durability. If you don't want to waste metal constantly, the best you can do is try and avoid making too detailed chiseling 'till you get a bronze chisel (at least).

Well, you wouldn't use fractions of durability, just increase the chisel durability by a lot, then use 1 for detailing, 32 for slabbing, and 128 for making bricks, or something like that. Not sure how much higher tier tools will help, really. If the chisel durability is similar to the picks', then even red/blue steel would only be good for detailing away about 20 blocks completely.

EDIT: Also, I think you can turn a slabbed block into a detail block, so it can be more efficient to use that first if possible, since one slab hit is worth 1-64 detail hits for the same durability cost.

i havent done much detail work with my chisels, but i have noticed they do wear out fairly quickly while mining smooth stone. more durable chisel would be more helpful

well honestly, when's the last time you tried to mine your way through a solid rock wall with a freaking chisel? it just seems kind of silly to me.

That's not what he said he was doing.

it just seems that the chisel durability is much lower then compared the the other tools made with the same type of metal, you could cut down at least 50 small trees with a tier 0 axe yet you can only chisel off half a block with one chisel.
