      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

realistic ecosystem

8 posts in this topic

Currently, trees and grasses can't grow or die without the player, nor can animals. They just randomly spawn. It would be great if it had a more dynamic environment where the grasses and trees grew on their own, animals ate the leaves and grassses, restoring them hnger, and if the animals have enough food, they can reproduce, if they don't have enough, they could starve and die. I know that having only a small proportion of existing chunks loaded at any one time would make it less realistic since the environment will only change around the player, and that it would take a fair amount of time developing it, but it would be great.

Agreed. That is an awesome idea and would make the game so much better. I have a question - can you make animals reproduce with wheat or something?

How can you possibly make an ecosystem in space as small as minecraft holds loaded at any time?

Yeah... How do breeders make animals reproduce irl?

Eh, maybe they'd just reproduce when they have enough energy to do so, so if you feed them enough, they'll reproduce.

A lot of this was implemented when I first did the EntityAnimalTFC class, but it didn't work out so well in practice. Breeding in the wild will probably be a thing and animals already eat grass to restore hunger, but this has thrown up some unforseen errors. The grass eating code had to be slightly adapted from the vanilla version, which was designed to only work for sheep (damn you mojang) and it's what causes the animals to stop moving after a while.
