      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

BlockID Consistency

4 posts in this topic

One of the major things about upgrading TFC is that BlockIDs are different every time. This means a lot of extra work, especially if you have to clean install (like when the launcher derps and loads Vanilla) to get the update to work, just to connect to a server with an existing setup. Every time I update, I have to start anew, and every time I don't even get close to my Copper Anvil before having to start all over.

It would be prudent to come up with a BlockID solution and then stick with it, not changing BlockIDs (only adding new ones) every update.

I thought Vanilla MC changed their BlockIDs during each update to protect the game? Which is why many Mods have to be updated each time?

If that were true, you would be forced to start a new game on every update. Mods have to update each time because of code obfuscation, not necessarily block IDs. Minecraft block IDs stay the same, and new vanilla items introduced might take IDs used by existing mods, which is where problems come in. Leaving a buffer for block IDs that might be used later prevents that to an extent.
