Terrafirmacraft on Technic Launcher

As many (or few, I don't know) of you know, the Technic Launcher now allows players to add their own modpacks to their client launcher with an ease unseen of. With this convenience, I'd like to recommend that Bioxx make his own instance on the Technic Pack site for TerraFirmaCraft, a link to which would be available in the "download" tab of this site. Just think it would be awesome (and you could adf.ly it or something if you wanted to).

The Technic team is infamous for their lax approach to permissions and usage rights. As such, there is an atmosphere of hostility surrounding them, and many people are loathe to patronize them. Many mod creators are unwilling to cooperate with the Technic team, and some have even reacted to their behavior by imposing rather extreme restrictions and limitations on their user agreements (see Railcraft)

"These things" happen to just be a simple request by the Dev, namely, Bioxx. Don't make the mod available on the Technic Launcher, or as a part of another Mod-Pack without simply getting his permission.

At least afford the dev some common courtesy. I think a LOT of modders share the same feelings. Some don't. But as for Bioxx, his work is free and the asking is very little.

Just ask. Do the right thing. Respect an artist's work. Just ask. If he/she says no. then don't. Be a big boy or girl and do the adult thing. Children will not go hungry, natural disasters won't occur. Just don't do it. Just ask. FTB will host TFC probably because they weren't inconsiderate pecker-woods, and actually took the time to get permission out of a common respect and courtesy.

It doesn't come down to who thinks it is right or wrong or if they do or do not think the reasons are "good enough" or not, it comes down to not being a fucking douche, plain and simple. It really isn't hard to wrap one's head around. If he doesn't want you to, don't do it. If you do it, you're a fucking douche.

Kudos to you for not caring about who is doing what with your free time after you've asked them not to, if that is your take on life. Not everyone rolls like that though.

I have over the years had instances where people I had no idea even existed have taken and in some instances stolen artwork of mine, or pieces of music, and posted them on their websites or on youtube to either represent their ideas, or just because they think it is cool, or for whatever reason. It pisses me off, and I am sure it does with Bioxx a little too. He may be more lenient than I... maybe not, but it all boils down to having scruples.

As far as the "One Major Rule"... Lol. I am not sure if it has relevance in this case..... *shrugs*

It's not the permissions thing, its the overblown community reaction everytime the word "Technic" is said anywhere near the words "Pack" or "Launcher".

Considering that the Technic Pack started as a privately made modpack, which got out of hand due to enormous popularity, and considering that the latest technic packs actually do have mod permissions detailed to such a ridiculous degree (I'm waiting for the first modmaker to require notirized paperwork for permissions), I wouldn't bring the torches and pitchforks out every time the word is mentioned.

Technic Pack also supplied a Bukkit-Forge at one time, which allowed Bukkit plugins to work in the Tekkit SMP. For server admins, like me, it made it a lot easier to manage the modded servers. In fact, without BF, it's just another anarchy setup. I've seen the biggest multiplayer servers leverage a modular launcher to use their own modpack with BF compatibility.

Also consider that the Technic Packs themselves had very good support in terms of block ID compatibility and world conversion tools (in case block ID's had to change), so instead of spewing troll-level hatred everytime you hear that word, just let it go.

The whole thing's blown way out of porportion is what I'm saying. If Bioxx doesn't want his mod in the Technic Launcher, so be it, end of story. Just download yet another launcher jar for this mod.

Hmmmm... never thought about Technic with much hatred per say. I can't hate YouTube because somebody put my music on it. But they could at least try and verify content.

I actually played my fair share of Yogbox.

I was addressing the overall "permission" aspect (notarized or otherwise) of modpacks though am quite aware of Tehcnic's rep, ID Compatability aside.

As for my pitchfork, I only use that when its feeding time!

Screw techic, they had a good run but they are assholes who have let their success go to their heads and turn them to hot air. Feed the Beast is much better. heck they work with the developers to create a customized Gregtech for each pack. i would love to see what the FTB team could come up with for this overhaul. heck give them a few weeks and im sure they would have buildcraft and better then wolves (and yes i know it is probably incompatible, this is just hypothetical cause i mean come on, TFC and BTW?) working with it. usually all they do is add and replace recipes and that's all we really need, but after a while they even add new features blending mods and making them fit. so yeah screw techic and see if you can work something out with FTB.

not trying to tell you what to do or anything. just got a bit excited. it is really up to you. set something up with either teckkit or FTB or just make your own launcher, it is your mod. but i just have to say that FTB would be awesome.
