      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Optifine with TFC Launcher?

16 posts in this topic

Hello,

I couldn't figure out how to install Optifine with the new (very convenient) TFC Launcher.

Anyone has made it?

I managed to install mods like Rei's Minimap or MAtmos, but not Optifine.

Thanks for your help!

I would imagin all you need to to is to install it to the working directory of the TFC launcher. Unfortunately I dont know what folder it uses. I would look in your %APP DATA% directory if your using windows first. Later tonight I can check and see if I can figure it out.

I think the folder is called "tfcraft" in the %app data% directory. As I understand, you'd unpack it into the minecraft.jar. I tried installing Optifine last night, but couldn't find a build of it that works with forge that the launcher provides so I kept getting a null pointer error on startup. The forge version I had was 603 I think.

If you get it working, do tell!

You can change the folder destination of TFC with TFC launcher, when you install it for the first time, you can select your folder.

The "minecraft.jar".is in the "minecraftbin" folder.

My issue is when I add the Optifine mod in the minecraft.jar, it crashes.

Maybe Optifine is not compatible with this version of TFC ?

Maybe Optifine is not compatible with this version of TFC ?

If you check the mods from within minecraft (before trying to add Optifine), it should tell you what forge version it's running. Then check to see if there's an Optifine build for that version of forge. That should determine compatibility. When I tried it, TFC used forge version 603 while the closest Optifine build was for 608 (or something along those lines).

If you're running the new launcher, is it built with a different version of forge?

Another solution that I don't particularly care to invest time into is to add TFC and its requisite mods into a vanilla minecraft install. This way you can pick compatible versions of forge and Optifine yourself. This is of course more time-consuming and will have to be redone when a new version of TFC is available.

It should work. came to TFC due to the Technic launcher. And the version there is with Optifine.

Two days ago I switched to the TFC-launcher and was not able to get Optifine installed, either. Now this thread mady me look after the versions:

Both launchers use Forge 7.7.1.629

The Technik-launcher uses Optifine 1.5.1_HD_U_D1

I wanted to copy the bin-directory of the Technik-version to the TFC-launcher, but there were some files, I would like to investigate further, as I am not aquainted with these (modloader.jar and subdirectories).

Do not expect an answer too soon, as I am processing my very first iron-anvil right now ,-)

Edit: I doubt that the author of the Technic Launcher mod pack has the permissions for the mods he is distributing. I know but, that Optifine is not allowed to be part of any modpack.

I am glad that I was able to help you.

Nonetheless, I would like to see whether it is possible to use Optifine with the official launcher. ,-)

SOLUTION: To use Optifine with the TFC Launcher, get the version of Optifine that works with current minecraft version (1.5.1 right now) and place the zip file in the minecraft/bin/jarmods folder, next to the Forge and Player API files.

THEN, go back to minecraft/bin and open the file "loadorder.txt". Add the exact name of the Optifine file, including extension, and that should do the trick. (Optifine will only be loaded this way if you use the TFC Launcher).

I just tried adding the mods manually to a fresh minecraft install and got that to work with TFC using the latest forge (682) and the latest Optifine 1.5.1 HD U D1. This is not using the launcher.

Mmm. Didn't know you can install it that way. Will have to give it a try the next time an update rolls around.

This is why you need a launcher that can "add" mods, the TFC dev(s) should consider talking maybe to FTB as they allow you to customize the modpack (but its up to your dumb behind to fix block id conflicts) by adding other mods (optifine is included in that, ive done it ... no need to zip / edit minecraft.jar then.)

Wow, thank you! I had lag and stuttering on Windows 7 32-bit (so updating to 64-bit java was not an option). It was just barely playable (average ~20 fps). Installed Optifine with this method, then set "Chunk Loading" to "Smooth" in video settings, and everything seems to be fixed! Plus, I get great fps, can finally control where I aim, and there's a bunch of new graphics options for me to play with.

I used TFC 76 Hotfix 14 with OptiFine 1.5.1_HD_U_D1 (download here, top link under 1.5.1/Ultra).

EDIT: Further testing has shown me that there were multiple sources of lag, and Optifine didn't fix them all. I wrote a post about how I fixed my lag.

Youre probably right there, but that dosnt mean to say that you cant create a "custom" modpack for your own personal use, thats how i integrate optifine into Feed The Beast.
