      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

An idea for more dangerous cave-ins

13 posts in this topic

I did a quick search and didn't find a thread about this.

As it currently stands, the cave-ins are not a threat. You might take a slight damage, but the only downside usually is just the time to clean up the mess. Would it be possible to add the vanilla anvil drop damage to cobble? That way when you get a few metric tons of rocks dropped on your head, it's going to hurt and most likely kill you. That way you would really need to make sure that your mining tunnels are properly supported all the time.

Wearing a helmet should reduce the damage. That would make sense.

I agree with ya Sgt, cave ins should be feared... they shouldnt be an annoyance. As for the helmet thing, I have to disagree... No helmet, no matter how finely made is going to stop your head from being smashed under a few tons of rock

Yes i agree with you sgt and you dub. cave ins should be feared and is a little tin hat really gonna protect you from a metric ton of rock? or a steel hat?

I agree that helmets shouldn't save you from a cave-in. For example, one cubic meter of granite (one block) weighs around 2700kg or 6000lbs. it's like having a big car dropped on you.

lol yeah that is ridiculous under that example. but the helmet thing makes sense if you kind of attribute it to defending you from stones falling. a few kilogram stone is going to do some real damage falling on your head, but with a helmet it could glance off. depends how you look at it.

wel its not a solid metre block of stone thats falling on your head is it? its a bunch of loose rocks, a helmet definitely is going to help deflect loose rocks

don't forget that it's not a modern helmet... it could even make things worse.

And unless the damage can be significantly increased from vanilla anvil damage, it's relatively small. Plus, since armor (and helmets) reduce incoming damage anyways, I don't see the need to have helmets reduce extra from falling rocks.

Well, I have had cave ins, mostly caused by my own stupid lack of supports. I think helmets are worthless when tons of rock come down on you but I don't think we need to increase the chances of cave ins happening. Not sure how I feel about this, while I agree they should be dangerous I am not sure I like the idea of being totally crushed by bad luck.

Ups to this idea.

I think that re-appropriating anvil damage to cavein rocks is fantastic, and I'd say that wearing a metal helmet should probably reduce damage taken by 10%.

Not much, but possibly enough to save your life in a not-too-serious incident

I mean like 1 heart, not save you.
