      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

      There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
      If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
      I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Magnesium Firestarter

Ok,so you could find magnesium, and once you got two bars, you could make a firestarter. This firestarter would last like 5x longer than the original, and it would have a higher chance of starting the fire automatically. It could also double as a flint and steel.

You can already make a flint and steal using a wrought iron ingot and a piece of flint. And it is exactly what you are describing, a firestarter with much more durability. To be honest though, I almost find it a waste of perfectly good iron, since sticks are so ridiculously easy to come by.

You do know magnesium is a alkali earth metal and it once it catches fire it burns so bright you cant even look at it? plus you cant just find magnesium, its an unstable metal and in an average environment. It has to be refined  I find this pointless haha but look at me and my pointless suggestions :D ....>.>

thing is, you can't start a fire from rubbing two bars of magnesium together,

the magnesium in firestarters IRL is there to shave little flakes onto the wood so that it will catch quicker, they usually have a flint piece included so that you can start the actual fire
