Charcoal Pit Help?

So I know how to make a charcoal pit and stuff. I just wanted to know if a trapdoor counted as air?Also, the wiki said that doors don't count as air but are vanilla doors included in that?Last thing, can you put a floor in the charcoal pit? can the firepit in the center be on a different block? or does it matter?

I don't know about the trapdoor, but I know that the firepit can be anywhere, on any block. I have no idea how you get vanilla doors, so I wouldn't worry about that.

 You make vanilla doors with plank blocks like regular. and thanks, thats what i needed to know. I figured out the trapdoor.

It shouldn't matter, but I think with b76 it does due to a glitch.  Seem to recall b77 corrects the issue.

 

Basically the firepit tile somehow ends up with a hidden stack of charcoal that's there but can't be seen.  To reach it, you need to dig down one tile and 'poof' it magically appears for collection.

 

I normally setup a Cobblestone floor with Brick wall/roof and a door.  Leave the firepit tile as sand or dirt to deal with the bug, so it becomes the only tile that needs to be replaced each time

The position of the fire pit do not really matter, the only rule about the position is not on a side, so on a 3x3, center is the only choice, on a 5x5, any place in the 3x3 center is ok.

 

as b76, uncovered charcoal pit work, but it is said to be corrected for 77. In other words, no matter what block you use around your charcoal pit, in 76 it will work
