      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I recently installed TerraFirmaCraft after learning of the changes in Beta 77 and decided to try it out. I was greeted with an FPS of approximately 0. My computer is not a gaming computer, as it is a stock Inspiron 1525 from the age of yore. I know I should upgrade it, but that is simply not possible for me. I have installed Optifine (after some struggle), played with memory allocations, and to no avail. Is there anything else I can do? I would have concluded that I simply could not play this mod, but I have played modpacks with 135 mods installed, and that still runs admirably well. I assume it's a factor of the many, many changes to vanilla TFC provides. I really do want to play this mod, and I could back in the days of Beta 40-ish. But, as the beta numbers grew higher, the FPS seemed to get lower. Is there anything I'm missing that could help?

The reason that TFC causes so much more lag than any other combination of Minecraft mods is because TFC greatly changes the world generation. In vanilla and other modded minecraft, sea-level is around y-level of 64, in TFC, it's all the way up at 142! So the majority of worldgen in TFC was just air blocks in vanilla, which don't render at all and treat the area as empty space that doesn't load into memory.

So I guess I wait until I turn 18, get a job and save for a good computer?

Even a brand-new gaming computer will probably lag spike with TFC. My machine runs Skyrim at Ultra Quality at ~120fps and I'm lucky if I get 20fps in TFC. The problem seems to be massive memory usage (caused by the TFC worldgen), RAM being paged to disk, and Java's garbage collector. Running on an SSD is supposed to help, but I'm not a fan of putting pagefiles onto flash memory so I'll just deal with low FPS and huge lag spikes until Bioxx can figure out a way to solve the problem or reduce the symptoms.

Ok, so I guess I can steal a supercomputer from the DOE, and find a fusion reactor so I can plug it in at my house.

I'm not sure what is it with TFC, as a lot of people with really good computers can only run it at around 20-30 FPS, and I run it at 50-80 FPS on my not really that good PC..

But anyways, some tips for optifine (do this in the ingame options -> video settings... menu):

- Set the "Performance" to MaxFPS (works like turning off Vsync, doesn't limit your FPS)

- If you have an ATI Radeon gfx card, turn Advanced OpenGL OFF (+10 FPS for me)

- For some reason, all the additional options in the Performance... menu just make me lag more, especially Smooth FPS, so try turning all of those on and of and see what fits you best

- Playing in fullscreen mode actually gives me a few more FPS (about +5)

- This one is pretty obvious but smooth lighting and render distance are especially taxing on the FPS, so if you already haven't lower those

yeah, I just configure kite similar to this last post

My pc have only onboard gf card (crappy 64M)

4G ram Intel corei3

I use most of the settings on optifine off (all the visual block efects)

putting off lava/water animations saves A lot of fps here

FPS maX

Open GL on max (don't understand why but this makes +20 on my fps

But this made a big difference!!!!!

The thing probably wont get good at all if you are running in a 32 bit java Instance

You have to configure the launcher to open the right java, but I really don't know how to do it!

If you cant configure the launcher to open the 64 bit java

I've just work around it by having the 64bit java only in my machine

But this made me install a 64bit navigator too (Waterfox)

(PS. if you're all this uninformed, I don't believe, but here goes

You can't put a 64bit program on a 32bit machine, check your sistem first)

I have already done those things. It's probably because my integrated graphics card is on a Pentium Dual-Core. On the bright side, I'm sure I can fit the Cray Titan in a truck.
