      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

tips for finding Chickens 77.10?

9 posts in this topic

Hey,

Just started playing this again today, and I cannot find any chickens anywhere, I have searched in creative, as well as survival many many chunks, and I cannot find any chickens.

I thought they use to spawn in TFC Forest Biomes, but I saw that got changed. I actually haven't not found a TFC Forest Biome at all, every Biome that is covered with Trees is labeled a TFC Plains Biome

So far I have searched 50 generated maps in creative, various biomes/latitudes/climates, and used tools to search for chickens rather than actually walking around to ensure I am not missing them.

My survival worlds is at ~-12000 and I cannot find any around, which means that unless I cheat a chicken or feature in I am stuck and will have to restart in hopes of getting a chicken, but since I haven't found any yet in any world I am not hopeful.

So please I need advice on how to find chickens? is it possible they are bugged in 77.10 again?

Thanks in Advance.

Chickens will only spawn in newly generated chunks after 77.10 is installed. Chunks from past versions won't ever spawn any chickens in them. So you'll have to explore new chunks.

Animal spawns are linked to climate rather than biome now. Even though you won't see TFC Forest as the biome when you press f3, chickens do indeed spawn in areas that are heavily forested or in jungle areas near the equator. I had many issues with this myself, but i assure you they are there. Try checking somewhat further south. I've noticed that sheep spawn in their proper hill and mountain area, but only up north. Once you hit -6000 sheep don't spawn at all. Maybe something similar is happening with the chickens, but I think they're just exceedingly rare. I just found one several minutes ago in a heavily  forested area around x -9000.

They might be to rare then, or we need another way to get feathers because they are a very much required item. Maybe a quail that cannot be breed but it a lot more common.

I agree. I enjoy the difficulty of rarer animal spawns, but i think it is currently far too rare. It doesn't require skill to locate the animals, just time. Far too much time. Try using Voxel Map. It's radar feature is great and it shows all non hostile mobs in the area with an icon of their head so you can easily tell what is what. Great for locating sheep and chickens. On the quail subject, good idea, though I think a duck would make sense as a decent northern alternative to chickens. Wouldn't require much more than a retexture since the chickens pretty much look and act like ducks anyhow. Happy hunting!

I am using Voxel Map, ducks would work aswell.

I dont understand how the z-axis applies to climates, 0 would be the equator I guess, and - is south + is north right?
