Can't breed chickens

Finally found a chicken and a rooster and they wont eat wheat or oat grain.  Also tried wheat seeds and plain wheat.  It doesn't seem possible to breed them then.  Is this a known bug?  Are there any other grains/foods that they will eat?

If wheat won't work dude have you tried using the other types of grain like oat, barley, rye, and rice?

Chicken breeding has been turned off until a proper solution to egg laying can be implemented. This was in IRC a few revisions ago, not sure if it has been changed since, haven't really tried.

On a related-to-chickens topic, I know they wont ever spawn in chunks generated in the earlier builds of 77, but do they respawn in the new chunks or are they spawned once and only once during chunk generation?

Mobs only spawn once during chunk generation. If you kill them, more will not respawn later.

I was thinking about solution with breeding chickens. You start breeding male and female chicken as other animals... But the female chicken would not get pregnant but it would spawn a special item (aka breeding sitting place), where you can insert only eggs... Foe max 9 eggs. After foe 1 game day you could not manipulate with it, because breeding process would start. (aka chicken female would sit there sometimes and heat them), after some period you will get so many small chickens as you had eggs in that breeding sitting place. Eggs you will get as usual... random drop. So it would be good idea to look sometimes on eggs, if you would like to breed. I think this is how it works in real live and I think it would not be a problem to realise

But... why can't we breed them with wheat grain instead of using pumkin seeds? Isn't it easier to not disable breeding until roosts are implemented?

I think its a great idea to use pumpkin seeds, it means we can actually use pumpkins for something useful. Now if the darn chickens would follow the seeds then that would be most helpful, I'm way to old to be chasing chickens in the wild.

Wheat/barley/oat/rye grain are all more abundant than pumkin seeds.
