There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Insane lag

18 posts in this topic

I installed this mod today, and its basically unplayable with all the constant lag. My machine spec's are fine, I play normal minecraft with no lag at all. I have optifine, and no other mods. I have no other programs running. The game with the mod is using almost triple the ram as vanilla minecraft (vanilla uses about 500mb and this is using 1.4gb), but still not anywhere near my ram capacity.

The only time I dont have significant lag is when I am on fully loaded chunks with no trees, mobs, or structures.

That sounds strange. Mine allocates 1.4 gb max, but generally uses somewhere about 650-700 mb, and doesn't lag all that bad, unless I generate a bunch of new chunks in quick succession - then it's noticeable, and still I wouldn't call that insane.

What if you try to play without optifine installed? What will that be like?

Optifine, especially the Ultra version, tends to not play very nicely with TFC. Yes it was designed for decreasing lag, but it was designed for Vanilla Minecraft and therefore may actually generate more lag than it will fix when paired with TFC.

I highly suggest using either the standard version, or removing optifine altogether.

That is going to suck if that is the case. Optifine is basically a requirement for vanilla play these days. And its not something you can just switch on and off...

In fact I dont even know *how* to remove it...

Removing it may not be necessary. I use OptiFine in TFC, but had to disable MultiCore analyzing. Firstly, because it lagged like hell. Secondly, some of the blocks and items plainly disappeared and i could see through them, even being next to them. Very annoying when trying to dig, pick up or interact with something you don't see...

Turning off the MultiCore i tweaked a bit with the settings. Now i have shut down Chunk Preloading (don't recall clearly how's it called, no access to MC atm) and mostly everything else on Fancy and ON. Minecraft runs smoothly like that.

And i don't have a super great computer, just good enough i guess :)

What Minecraft launcher are you using?

I already had good FPS but Optifine made it a bit better still. I just installed it for the Zoom feature. I had the disappearing block issue also but what I did was this...

If you have problems with flashing or transparent blocks you can try:A. Disable "Threaded Optimization" / "OpenGL Threading" in the graphics card control panel (example)B. Enable "Vertical Synchronization" in the graphics control panel or set the option Performance to VSync.

This solved the issue perfectly. I still get the TFC invisible chunk occasionally but that is a different issue and is with TFC itself, I think.

So I got optifine removed, and now it lags just as much as ever if not worse. Is by far the worst when near trees.

@ranadiel: What is mulitcore analyzing?

@deviator: no disappearing blocks here.

flamewolf393,

In OptiFine:

Settings -> Video Settings -> Chunk Loading

You can change there between Default, Smooth and Multi-Core. Always when having Multi-Core makes it a bit slower for me with transparent blocks. As i'm checking the settings, here are a couple key things:

1. I use only Short distance. It's enough to see a lot around you in my opinion and doesn't load as much as with bigger distances.

2. On Video Settings -> Performance -> I have only Smooth World and Smooth FPS turned on. Everything there is off.

With this i have almost all set on Fancy and ON.

Reinstalled optifine.... back to lag only near trees and mobs.

@ ranadiel: I dont have any options about performance or chunk loading.

Edit: Apparently I never actually had optifine working right in the first place.

Edit2: I did a full fresh install of minecraft from the ground up, got forge, got optifine. Everything works. I load TMC and suddenly forge gives me the error: "you have mod sources that are duplicate within your system"..etc. I only installed it in one place, I know there are not duplicates of it... What did I do wrong now?

When you installed Optifine, you should've been setting up runtime keyword "-Dfml.ignorePatchDiscrepancies=true". Check if it's there.

i confirm the topic starter's report: TFC shows less than 20 FPS according to stats screen, but my eyes see 5-10 FPS only. Lag appear on more than 5 chunks long trip.

First configuration (first screenshot):

Forge Mod Loader version 6.2.61.866 for Minecraft 1.6.2 loading
Java is Java HotSpot Client VM, version 1.7.0_21, running on Windows 7:x86:6.1, installed at C:Program FilesJavajre7
Optifine is not used.

java.exe has 1.4GB application pool.

Second configuration (second screenshot):

Forge Mod Loader version 6.2.52.837 for Minecraft 1.6.2 loading
Java is Java HotSpot 64-Bit Server VM, version 1.7.0_04, running on Windows 7:amd64:6.1, installed at C:Program FilesJavajre7
Optifine is not used.

java.exe has 2.3GB application pool.

The nework game is more representative: i see 1-2 FPS only.

Process' affinity mask doesn't affect the FPS.

I experienced a lot of these problems, but they went away after a few days in the same area.  Which isn't very viable in TFC.  The only solution I found to work well was to play on a server.  Seems that other's generate the landscape and free my machine from having to do so.  Or it is magic.

Local game chashed, log is at http://pastebin.com/Bau42nui

Some log entries in cyrillic are commented with English

Game crashed after 1 hour of non-intensive playing.

You didn't allocate enough memory. TFC is much more resource heavy than Vanilla. 1GB minimum is suggested

Inventory Tweaks and Optifine Ultra also do not play well with TFC

WHAT?

Another time I allocated 2 Gigabytes of RAM on 64-bit W7. Game become lag in 15 minutes of run thru hills. See my post by 18 September 2013. And i didn't use Optifine. TFC  leaks  allocates to much memory and doesn't allow to free it in time. Memory doesn't become free even local map closed. Restart helps only.
